To think summer is a miserable time for fat people?

HackerFucker22 · 06/05/2016 14:31

Caveat by saying immediately I am a good 2st (actually closer to 3st!!) overweight so this isn't a fat bashing thread.

First few proper sunny days and I am frantically trying to find weather appropriate clothes that don't make me look like a whale.

I am hot and sweaty

I am stressed as I have 3 weddings need 2 outfits and I can't find a damn thing.

I went out to buy some new tops today and came back with baggy, shapeless t-shirts.

I am dreading the next few months.

Tooold I wore them Grin
Being 16 or so in the mid 00s I thought this look was the bees knees and "grown up"

madein1995 · 06/05/2016 23:59

I'm size 20, and chub rub is my enemy! I tend to look awful in whatever I wear. My goal is to lose enough weight that I look good in shorts and short skirts. I tend to wear leggings, vest top, pumps and a light cardigan in this kind of weather an then either look silly in leggings or get chub rub in skirts.

Onedaftmonkey · 07/05/2016 00:05

Of course chub run was around 20 years ago. In the early 90's when I was at school my thighs would bleed In the summer. I couldn't walk for days being in so much pain. I would wear tights in summer untill nasty skinny bitches would bully me over it.then I would put Vaseline between my thighs to create a barrier. I dont rock the Maxi dress look I'm more Of a 3/4 length cotton trouser with long vest and thin cardy type. I wish I could but the best ones I've seen are on ladies 16+.
Summer sucks.
Oh and I avoid sweaty crotch by going comando.
Sorry TMI

FrameyMcFrame · 07/05/2016 00:18

How about leggings with gladiator sandals and a short dress?

jellybeans · 07/05/2016 00:34

I know what you mean OP. I am always yo-yo-ing the same 2st. I love the warm weather but hate trying to find clothes when I am bigger. I feel self conscious and normally hide under a coat.

Runningupthathill82 · 07/05/2016 05:15

Lots of people in my office took to wearing strapless Maxi dresses on "dress down" days last summer. Was v amusing as, when they were all sitting down at their desks, it looked like an office full of naturists. Rows of bare shoulders and arms above computer screens.

I think summer can be a difficult time to dress, full stop. Especially for work or formal occasions.

I spent last summer pregnant and wafting about in a maxi and sandals. If a Maxi is decent fabric, has thick enough straps for a good bra and isn't a hideous print (sainsburys TU, I mean you) it can look fantastic on anyone IMO.

InTheSandPit · 07/05/2016 05:49

Another one saying Armi where do you look for the top, please?

Mov1ngOn · 07/05/2016 05:58

I never know what to wear with leggings in the summer. I can't keep ballet flats on. I have hideous heels (flakey) and feel more comfortable if I have a trainer sock or something in.

Wore converse style last summer bit got them out the other day and my feet hurt after a winter of comfy boots. Grrr.

Fiona80 · 07/05/2016 06:20

Very rude comment about maxi dresses. It's not about being slim, it's about body shape, the material of the dress and the shape of the dress. Personally I think they look crap on skinny people. I think the healthier women suits them better.

As for other clothes, I got some great linen trousers in matalan for my hols, they are not the baggy ones which most are that u would end up tripping over, there are narrower at the bottom. I wear them with tunics.

All you summer haters, do you not look forward to going away for your holidays? I can't wait although it has been a pain shopping for clothes and the maxi dress I ordered online makes my backside look huge!

My friend wrote a series of articles called "A Fat Lady's Guide To Summer." It might help?

Glastokitty · 07/05/2016 07:08

I'm fat as hell and bloody love summer and I'm in Oz where it is proper bloody hot. I'm short too so can't do the maxi dresses thing, I prefer knee length or a little shorter dresses and have lots of linen trousers and long linen t shirts, and also spend a lot of time in swimsuits with a proper bra in them. If people think I look bad I genuinely DGAF.

EponasWildDaughter · 07/05/2016 07:32

ouryve Fri 06-May - If I bought that Amazon dress in pale pink, I'd look like a really lumpy sausage.

Made me lol. So would I, god so would i. So would anyone who wasn't gorgeously fit and toned i recon.

It's all about the colour, especially with cheap material. The black, the navy and (I'm hoping) the khaki will play down the less than firm bits ...

exLtEveDallas · 07/05/2016 07:32

There are some lovely cotton long dresses with sleeves in Cotton Traders at the moment. Slightly more expensive (£30-40) but they look the business. I'm in love with the elephant print kaftan looking one www.cottontraders.com/uk/women/new-in-womens-/icat/womens-new-in

fishybits · 07/05/2016 07:39

Discovered this company 2 summers ago and worse skirts for the first time in years.

fishybits · 07/05/2016 07:40

*Wore skirts Hmm

SandyAndy · 07/05/2016 08:17

Fishybits (fab username!Grin) can I ask what the sizing is like, and are they cotton (can't see on the website?) and do you wear them instead of pants?
Sorry for the questions, but they look fab and I am thinking of ordering some! Thanks
Maverick thanks for the Flowers and some back for you Flowers Its not really something you can discuss in general conversation is it?! I am very relieved to have found this thread!

SandyAndy · 07/05/2016 08:21

Ooh Dallas I love that dress! Would be perfect for our holiday, we are off to Crete in August, eek its going to be hot, have been slightly dreading itSadFirst ever package holiday with the kids so should be feeling excited, but oh dear the sweating will not be good.
Actually I should stop reading this thread it is making me want to spend ££!

hollinhurst84 · 07/05/2016 08:30

Sandy - I wear them alone as they have a gusset type bit. Sizing is pretty spot on, the pair I have are big on my waist as in between sizes but they still don't slip down or roll

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/05/2016 09:09

I love my maxi dresses - I have two jersey ones. They are not fashion statements, but they are comfortable and make me feel happy.

What bugs me most about the clothing that's out there for someone my size (c. 30) is that so much of it is made from synthetic fabrics, which make the sweating so much worse. This means I tend to live in cotton skirts that I make for myself, and cotton t-shirts.

I need to spend a few days doing some dressmaking, because I've got fabric for two summer skirts and one summer dress - and as I live in Scotland, summer will last for approximately 3 days, so if my new things aren't ready to wear when summer starts, I'll have no chance of getting them made before the 72 hours are up and autumn starts! Grin

SandyAndy · 07/05/2016 09:13

Thanks hollinhurst gonna order some!Smile

smellsofelderberries · 07/05/2016 09:39

I am slim/small waisted but have fat knees and horrid thighs- covered in cellulite Blush hate them. Usually wear a lot of fit and flare dresses that fall to bellow my knees, or midi skirts that are really fitted at the waist. I'm 13 weeks pregnant now though, with my first and fast realising that I'm going to be in a proper bind once summer properly arrives! Sad

SuperFlyHigh · 07/05/2016 10:00

Has Tigger come back yet?! no didn't think so

AuntDotsie · 07/05/2016 10:19

I'm wearing a maxi today in honour of this thread Grin

SandyAndy · 07/05/2016 10:36

Auntdotsie you rock that maxi dress girl!GrinWink
