Right, this is my time to shine (on behalf of Ds)...
He's 4. He was sat with me drawing last week, he rarely picks up a pen, never does any drawings are preschool as always outside playing, prefers messy playing to anything else.
So was quite pleased when he sat up next to me and asked for pencil and paper.
I was colouring on my page, he narrated next to me what he was drawing. I was only half listening.
I heard "this is daddy's smile. This is daddy's eye. And the other eye. And daddy's ballbag..." I snapped to attention. "Huh? What did you say?!" - he repeated himself.
It's quite an accurate drawing, I hope dp doesn't mind me sharing his ballbag with mumsnet... Grin

Those are lovely painting, there are so many talented artists out there. What I'm trying to say is please buy art from art exhibitions, if you do that you will make an artist very happy and have a unique piece of art. And some of the kids on here may well be pleased you did in the future.

ouryve · 05/05/2016 23:39

If a 6 year old of mine did that, it would be stuck to the fridge!

It;s currently covered in buses and imaginary fleet lists, c/o my 12 year old. He;d be mortified at the picture of Kipper the Dog that went on there, when he was 3. I can't remember if I have that phtographed or scanned, but I have loads of pics of what he did on his megasketcher when he was 3 or 4 - all of which aint bad for a kids with motor difficulties. He did this one when he was 33 months old, according to the filename - I can see early attempts at writing in there (he taught himself and had to re-learn at school!)

hurryup Your dds picture is brilliant. My dd is 7 and adores drawing, she's very good and I'm hoping to enrol her in an art camp this summer. She's very creative, her Lego creations are amazing!
There are so many talented dcs on this thread.
I wonder how many of us could have been the same. I had no encouragement at home as a child.
I would have loved to be a dancer and probably had the talent. Ah well Smile

This thread has turned out to be an absolute delight!

Too many funny pictures to mention!

My nephew (8) draws his own birthday cards for us each year. He likes to include an important message of some sort.

So sorry Salem - just come back to thread and realised that I misnamed your sister as your DD! Blush. Either way, her drawings are still excellent. :)

Mardle - totally agree with you. I did a Practical art O level, back in the day - didn't need to do all the history etc., just the artwork itself. Got an A for it. Wouldn't have done if I'd had to do all the booklearning with it as well! I agree it's a shame to deny good marks in the practical side just because someone has decided that practical on its own isn't good enough :(

Suspicious - I LOVE that. Totally amazing - he should get a job doing inspirational cards when he's older! Grin

Dowser - would love to see some of your grandson's work if you do manage to get it on here, hope you work out how. :)

Rulex - great work by your DS there! I knew it was a prawn as soon as I saw it - and he's really good. Talent to be cultivated there. :)

Quietvoiceplease · 06/05/2016 06:23

It was a joke Hurryup (albeit not a very good one) about children having to work in factories producing consumer goods rather than art.
Your DDs picture is really, really lovely. I would be chuffed to have drawn that, and certainly very impressed with any of my DCs to have produced it.

Hurryup2016 · 06/05/2016 06:47

My response wasn't serious Quiet. Know what you mean, those poor kids would probably do well in art given a chance.

Certainly a good idea to give encouragement to kids if they enjoy drawing. Just for their own enjoyment (or career later if they turn out to be really talented). I think it makes an enjoyable hobby. My skills are limited to drawing stick people. My four year old hates drawing or colouring.

This a lovely thread, my children are all quite artistically inclined. I cant draw to save myself so no idea where it comes from!

flippaflippa · 06/05/2016 12:47

My DS (4.5) drew this - it's a shawl of angler fish with 1 dinosaur thrown in for good measure. Pretty awesome I reckon Grin

Lancelottie · 06/05/2016 14:41

Love the angler fish, and I would have guessed at a much older child for the waterfall!

Hurryup2016 · 06/05/2016 15:16

Marco, your dd drew that at 2.5? Wow, she is very talented! Am impressed. Love the waterfall. Are you artistic yourself?

I love art. But my 4yo still only scribbes wildly with the occasional line or circle, he isn't interested at all. My 14mo scribbles too which seems early (maybe just compared to not-at-all interested DS1!) so maybe he will inherit my interest?

Anyway, some lovely stuff here, esp Marco's DC's waterfall, wow!

MerrilySlidingAway · 06/05/2016 16:34

I call this one rocket willy >

But look closely, what else do you see ?? Yep, one for the turner art gallery.

This is my ds(6)'s Iron Man portait. I think it's fab, he looks like he is doing the charleston or being an extra on the Thriller video. And of course, the arrow with his name in case we were in any doubt!

This is my favourite pic by DS, he was 4 at the time
