OP some people get their backs up at the first whiff of a boast. Of course you should be proud of your DD. I don't know why some people feel the need to put others down and say it's only average, instead of finding something pleasant and supportive to say. Presumably we're not deciding whether you DD is a child prodigy and should be enrolled in art school, but her art work is really good and she should be proud of herself.

splendide · 04/05/2016 13:21

mumoseven, you appear to be wearing rambo style ammunition belts over military fatigues. Are you special forces?

ThisWasCrownjewel · 04/05/2016 13:22

Lovely pictures all.

Writer, Morrisons also sell boys' Peppa/George t-shirts.

OhWotIsItThisTime · 04/05/2016 13:30

When ds1 was in nursery, he always drew me nude. Come the Friday before Mother's Day, the teacher had to very discreetly hand me my homemade card.

Clandestino · 04/05/2016 13:31

This is a picture my DD did using the wax and ironing technique (I think it's called encaustic art) when she was 5. The woman doing the workshop was a bit woo and started talking about some children having special abilities etc. I think it's very nice but won't be sending DD to a druid school anytime soon.

I think that's really good for a 6 year old.

Pretty sure my 5 year old is not destined to be an artist, this is a piece from a few months ago. She's pretty good at writing though, so I guess that's something...

btw OP I think it's a great picture for a 6 years old.

Natsku · 04/05/2016 13:33

*writing her name. She can't write anything else!

cecinestpasunepipe · 04/05/2016 13:49

Wow Clandestino, I really love your daughter's picture. What size is it?

Hurryup2016 · 04/05/2016 13:53

Ceebie, am not that blinkered to think she is a child prodigy. Just thought it was good, that's all. 😀

Lots of lovely drawings (and not so lovely but sweet 😁) on here.

Clandestino, I think that is exceptional for a 5 year old. Hope it's displayed somewhere in your house.

Hurryup, thank you. I took both pictures with me to work so they are hanging over my desk, I really love looking at them.

Clandestino · 04/05/2016 14:07

If I remember well, she called the first picture The Forest and the other one The Sea.

I think it's a great drawing (yes you can see she has been learning about different artist styles - but that's how we learn our own style)it is very vibrant and colourful. Well done to her and good for you for encouraging her, it's a shame she thinks she's no good, I'd give her loads of huge pieces of paper (rolls of wallpaper lining paper are good) and let her just go for it with all sorts of paints and crayons (or a mixture of media)

I think with all the hoo haa about testing art gets somewhat forgotten - it is a very joyful activity for some children and often for those who are hesitant and unconfident it is because we have a strict idea of what is 'good'. Any expression of feeling and creativity is good and productive, it doesn't matter what others are doing at that age.

Art is very subjective obviously.
Some people can produce technically accomplished work that leaves me cold (but others may love).
I have seen work from adults who were told all their lives they were hopeless at art, but freed up and allowed to express themselves have produced things that have enormous charm and attract the observer despite being naive regarding technique.

Just encourage your children to express themselves through art - it is such an enjoyable activity, - the process as much as the result. Lovely to see all the children's work on this thread. Natsu - your DC's drawing is great - I love the smile. Smile

WalkingBlind · 04/05/2016 14:21

These are my DD's birds from when she was 2.5, I was very proud. Swan and a Robin Grin I don't think there's any harm in boasting slightly as long as it isn't ott

U2ThAt's amazing... Does your son sell his work?

Clandestino · 04/05/2016 14:24

WalkingBlind, this is actually great for 2.5 years old, like it :)

Aren't' Sunflowers' and 'Starry night' by Van Gogh not Piccasso?

Pheobe1 · 04/05/2016 14:49

Yes Lardy Blush I realised as soon as I posted, was hoping no one would notice.

LineyReborn · 04/05/2016 14:59

I remember an art teacher at my school used to have us copying paintings by Turner and Constable. We were only 11, and had thirty minutes with poster paints to do it in. It was like the Generation Game meets a dainty Jackson Pollack.

Backingvocals · 04/05/2016 15:27

God I think they are all brilliant. OP my six year old could not do that. No way. He could barely do the one by the 2.5 year old Grin

Eva50 · 04/05/2016 15:42

I think that's very good for a 6 year old OP

This is ds2's "Window Box" painted at 3.5. It was named by us as ds had very few words at that age. He is now quite an arty 18 year old.
And ds3's attempt at a "Monet" age 7. I initially had it pinned upside down and had to be asked to change it! Unsurprisingly he is not arty at 9.

I really like this thread.

My DD (teenage) drew tattoos on her and her brother this weekend with sharpies. I was torn between admiration (as they were really good, she's artistic) and exasperation as despite scrubbing, they are still there...
