Kate, I love that picture. You are clearly chief of the family.

MardleBum · 05/05/2016 14:36

You'd be surprised with grading for Art GSCE and A level, it's not just marked on artistic talent alone, you have to show sketch books built up over a period of time for research purposes and often the assignments need to be supported by written work as well. If a pupil struggles with that for any reason, or with sticking to a rigid set of requirements rather than just drawing/painting their heart out, it is entirely possible they may get only a B. Or even a C.

splendide · 05/05/2016 14:36

Oh that spiky cat is brilliant!

mumoseven · 05/05/2016 14:56

Oh I see Mardle - thanks for explaining. Long time since I had an involvement with exams at that level.

pinkyredrose · 05/05/2016 16:00

Rulex101 · 05/05/2016 16:06

Loving your daughter's picture, Hurry! So, so good. My son drew this prawn (in about 10 mins!) while at the dinner table on holiday last year. He was 4 at the time. I love it (but then I am his mum, so very biased!)

MardleBum · 05/05/2016 16:23

Thumb i think it's wrong actually, in the same way that you can be brilliant at sport but if you can't manage the biology/theory side of the written work you can't get a fantastic mark at GCSE. Sometimes things like sport and art are the things that the kids who struggle academically are supremely gifted at. It seems such a shame to deny them what is probably going to be their only outstanding grade because of a theory element or lack of written coursework when they are hands down better than anyone else at the actual subject.

MardleBum · 05/05/2016 16:23

And Salem your DD's pictures are brilliant.

MardleBum · 05/05/2016 16:24

Students often take art at A level thinking it's going to be an easy/filler subject. They could not be more wrong. The workload is massive.

MardleBum · 05/05/2016 16:25

I love this thread, I think it should be in classics.

Floggingmolly · 05/05/2016 17:21

Classics??

Hurryup2016 · 05/05/2016 17:23

Quiet, that is a crap argument why dd's pic is in your opinion crap. It's drawing we are talking about, not shoe making skills. That said, am sure would be a brilliant shoe maker 😀😀😀

Love all these drawings. Tinkly, that is pretty good. Showofhands & Salem, love those!

I wish I could post my 18 year old grandsons artwork. He has autism . It's the incredible detail he puts in his work. Stuff I don't even see.
He loves to draw in pencil and spends ages shading his work. He seems to almost see things in 3 d.

He does incredible portraits. One of William hartnell is stunning. He's a big Dr Who fan.
If I ever get hold of one and find out how to post I will do so.

whois · 05/05/2016 22:12

Loving these pictures

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 05/05/2016 22:31

It's a good picture Hurryup - not child prodigy jaw dropping but certainly above average for age 6.

DD is "good at drawing" in the same way - nothing like as adult artist comparable as Assemble 's similar age child's picture, but good enough to enjoy it and win a few little tiny local kids painting competitions. My boys haven't drawn as well at comparable ages certainly.

I hope your dd can stop being so down on herself and realise she can draw - you don't have to be producing work on a level with adult professional artists and illustrators to enjoy drawing and be quite good at it. It's a nice hobby if they can be a bit confident in their ability - doesn't have to be a career!
