OP - I think I'm being stood up

Replies - You are needy and desperate.

OP - My tenants are constantly late with their rent

Replies - It's your fault for renting your place. Expect them to do this, put up and shut up.

OP - I saw a man on the ground being hit by several police officers last night. WWYD?

Replies - But how could you have seen? It was dark. How could you see how many times he was hit? YABU
[answer - because I have eyes]

And again. Another example.

Making assumptions of me. Reading what clearly isn't there.

I don't dislike MN, I love MN. I can't begin to explain the support, guidance, information and strength I have gained and continue to gain from this site.

I just don't understand why there always have to be arse holes amongst the masses.

I don't, thankfully, get them on my threads but continuously see them on others.
It's just makes the poster feel shit and defensive and I don't understand the need for it.

1 It's a forum, questioning & discussion is what they do

2 AIBU same thing squared

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 09:17

Sometimes there is a real person behind it. Grin

PaulAnkaTheDog · 02/05/2016 09:18

Well, your first example didn't exactly go like that, did it? And it also turned out to be a troll. People ask questions to try and get a bigger picture. Nothing wrong with that.

herecomesthsun · 02/05/2016 09:18

There is also a psychological principle here, people behave differently if they can't see or fully connect with the other person.

BIWI · 02/05/2016 09:18

Because there are arseholes everywhere Jennifer. That's life, sadly.

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 09:19

Arseholes should be reported. You get arseholes in RL so why not on the internet? Confused

It's called cromitical thinking.
I'm constantly surprised that people seem to just accept so many things.

This is one of the many reasons I love Mumsnet.

bakeoffcake · 02/05/2016 09:19

When people ask "AIBU?" we need the full facts in order to assertion a conclusion.

It like being in a court of lawHmm Grin

Snoringlittlemonkey · 02/05/2016 09:19

I agree with Vince that it does open your eyes to different perspectives and experiences. That said though it can also reinforce your beliefs or assumptions. So it can work both ways.

Thornrose · 02/05/2016 09:19

I now have Beyoncé singing "question?" on repeat in my head! Confused

Shakey15000 · 02/05/2016 09:20

Because arseholes exist in all walks of life. Easy to spot and ignore though.

RiverTam · 02/05/2016 09:21

I love how so many people don't like that yes, it can be perfectly possible to know someone's nationality just by looking at them. It's all like 'how did you know they were French/Italian/Swedish/whatever?

Some people are just unnecessarily punchy and seem to think that everyone is lying or embellishing instead of just recounting their experience. It's very wearying.

Ok the first one was a troll (what a fucking weird thread to make up though?!).

But the second example is still going. I just don't understand the need to wind the OP up in the way that is happening.

But I take your points - people forgetting there's (sometimes) a human behind the screen. That there are arseholes in all walks of life, why not here?

Perhaps I'm being over sensitive today.
Ha! Jus The got a pang of period pain as I wrote that!

So they hadnt been stood up?Shock

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 02/05/2016 09:25

I just don't understand why there always have to be arse holes amongst the masses

A metaphor for Life I feel

though often I have to search for ok people amongst the arseholes

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/05/2016 09:25

The stood up thread had a ridiculously arsey op. It doesn't surprise me at all if it was made up.

It's easy to be nasty age you're hiding behind a keyboard, I bet these posters are quiet as nice in real life!

Also, many of the prolific posters are like this and given accolades so less well known posters try to copy them. It's a bit like copying the popular girls at school. Think Mean Girls 😂.

NickiFury · 02/05/2016 09:28

Because some people feel brave on the faceless Internet and like to put the boot in, in a way they would never dare to in real life. Yes there's sometimes genuine people requesting clarification in order to give a considered response but in AIBU especially it's often people just seizing the chance to be rude, dismissive and contrary without any real come back.

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 09:28

Sometimes people's random thoughts escape from their brains and end up as a thread in AIBU. There should be a 'Are you sure you want to post that' warning.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 02/05/2016 09:29

It's called cromitical thinking Is it?
