Getting my boobs out

wannabehippyandcrazycatlover · 27/04/2016 18:58

I thought it was all a hoax about people making judgey comments about breastfeeding in public and that no one in their right mind would actually say anything...

Today I was unfortunately proved wrong, I was told by a gentleman that it was highly inappropriate for me to get my boob out and feed my baby in a cafe. I thought I was being quite discreet but obviously not in his opinion.

I was so shocked I couldn't say anything, I didn't think that this actually happened Confused. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm quite upset about it (although won't stop me doing it in future) and can see why some women stop BF if they get comments like that on a regular basis.

Grin Philoslothy don't worry I caught up - we've X-posted. Grin

I found breastfeeding my children difficult but wanted to keep doing it as I thought it was the best thing to do. I often tried to find a quiet place when I was out. For months I sat in the corner seat of an M&S cafe a few times a week thinking no one could see me....until the last time I was there.. I looked up for some reason and realised there was a security camera pointing straight down on me and my 'not so private' boobs! Never went back as now I know why the security guard always looked at me oddly when I walked into the shop!

"The next time I see a disabled person walking in public without making any attempt to be discreet, I will stand/sit and stare at her and make her feel uncomfortable. Why should I care about her comfort, when she doesn't care about mine, or anybody else's?"

pearlylum · 28/04/2016 23:01

flowers you are a nasty piece of work.

TooLazyToWriteMyOwnFuckinPiece · 28/04/2016 23:04

She cares about her baby's comfort, flowersandshit.
That's what it's all about after all, not you

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 28/04/2016 23:23

Flowers. I'm shocked at your behaviour.

FlowersAndShit · 28/04/2016 23:28

I'm shocked at the sense of entitlement that mothers have, especially with breastfeeding. Why should I have to be careful about where I look, when women like her are ITCHING for an argument, as evidenced by this thread. If you don't agree with the majority, you are called a GF, troll, cunt, twat etc.

Philoslothy · 28/04/2016 23:30

For example there was no need for the lady on the tube to pull up her top and unhook her bra and then take the baby out of the pram topless and proceed to feed. It's rare - so rare that its a moot point - but yes some mums like a "show".

I have big boobs, maternity bras tend to be unflattering as they are not undersides so I usually wear a normal bra. I do get my boob out and then feed. Sometimes if a child is over hungry or frantic for some reason you need to get your boob out first

HolidayBluesTonight · 28/04/2016 23:30

Before i had children I was uncomfortable seeing people breastfeed so I just didn't look. Problem solved. Now I'm not bothered by it. I've never known anyone make a 'show' of breastfeeding - if they do then just ignore them. I find it so sad to see people commenting on posts on facebook saying they didn't breastfeed or stopped breastfeeding because they were too scared to do it in public. People think it's cute when they go to the zoo and see baby animals feedimg but there is uproar when it's a human!

shockandawe · 28/04/2016 23:31

Flowers, that really isn't normal is it......

Philoslothy · 28/04/2016 23:35

I suspect that most people who bleat about breastfeeding discreetly are either men or women who have not breastfed and therefore they don't understand that although it is natural it does not come naturally to all of us. Sometimes we take a long time to get a latch end so gasp horror we may show our nipples. Sometimes in early days we are nervous and so we end up being all fingers and thumbs and things don't happen smoothly.

Philoslothy · 28/04/2016 23:37

No worries nannawife, I suspect that I am a deeply unclassy breastfeeder! Grin

Philoslothy · 28/04/2016 23:38

flowers you truly are a shit.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 28/04/2016 23:41

"Entitlement".
Of course babies are entitled to be fed and mothers are entitled (by law may I add)to breast feed.

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 28/04/2016 23:41

×Flowers× - ODFOD. I breastfeed whenever and wherever my babies are hungry. If that offends you then I suggest you stay at home.

While you're at home raging away with the Daily Mail, you could watch this:

ollieplimsoles · 28/04/2016 23:49

Flowers, get fucked.

When my dd starts crying with hunger absolutely NOTHING matters to me except feeding her, my brain just shuts down to everything else around me.

Babies have a right to be fed when they are hungry, not to have to wait for someone like you to finish their coffee in a cafe so you don't have to look at it. They shouldn't have to eat in a toilet because its disgusting, would you eat in a toilet?

My baby is more important than your feelings, consider that next time you are offended by breastfeeding in public.

Go educate yourself

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 28/04/2016 23:51

This is quite good too and will hopefully help to educate the likes of Flowers Grin

Baconyum · 29/04/2016 00:44

Flowers reported reminding you you're on a PARENTING SUPPORT site not a parent bashing one!

Baconyum · 29/04/2016 00:50

Tit power! Love it!

AugustaFinkNottle · 29/04/2016 00:50

Nappyslayer: define "discreet". Is it covering yourself up with a shawl or one of those breastfeeding apron things? The vast majority of breastfeeders that you see out and about show less breast than someone in a low-cut top, apart from when they're initially sorting themselves out, when they're swopping from one side to another, when the baby doesn't latch on properly, etc. Should they hide under tents lest they show a flash of nipple? Why is that any less indiscreet than page 3 of The Sun? Yes, some people on here have referred to the occasional incident when they've flashed a boob but it's generally accidental, and none of them claim to be waving them around yelling "look at me!"

AugustaFinkNottle · 29/04/2016 00:57

Flowers, might you perhaps care about the baby's comfort even if you don't care about the mother's? Do you think your right not to have to turn your head a few degrees trumps the baby's right not to be hungry and distressed?

Actually, I must admit that if I saw someone staring fixedly at a breastfeeding woman in a blatant attempt to make her feel uncomfortable, I would find it fairly pitiable. Not enough to prevent me standing in front of her to shield the mother and loudly asking about her perverted interest in breasts, mind you.

pineappleshortbread · 29/04/2016 01:04

Flowers you truly are a nasty piece of work and incredibly and falsely entitled. The law does not provide for you comfort from seeing breastfeeding and nor should it.

Also to divert a little why is seeing a womans breast or nipple so offence even when ita not feeding a child? I see plenty of mens boobs and nipples in the summer all out and about but no one cares about them but a mother naturally feesing her child is enough to make people feel uncomfortable? What is wrong with aome people.

I breast fed ds2 as it qa too painful with ds1 and i discovered nipple Shields with number 2. I didnt care where I did or how much was on show. I think i had a muslin over my shoulder but that was for spit cleaning as it was easy to reach. I didnt care about being discreet just about feesing my boy as easily as possible. Im glad i never ran into some of the entitled and rude people on here.

Philoslothy · 29/04/2016 01:13

flowers I assumed you were a troll and therefore checked to see if you had posted before. You have and I can see that you have huge challenges in life and as somebody with social anxiety you are very unlikely to actually try and intimidate a breastfeeding mother. Whilst you have said some shitty things I should not have called you personally a shit. Sorry
