About time, 27 years too late.

Am also shocked that there are posters who are complaining about the thread title ffs.

96 people died, supporters vilified as thugs, lies and corrupt policing, not to mention the awful media attitude & top level cover-ups.

Thanks JFT96

Good point made by Terry Christian on twitter.

Re: ambulance service: it's to do with escalation and appropriate response - they were given information and did not respond appropriately to it. The decision is not in relation to the one ambulance driver who did make it on to the pitch.

Fact is many victims could have been resuscitated if they'd had proper immediate help (I think the 2012 Independent Panel thought up to 44 victims could have been saved will an appropriate response from police and ambulance services).

gymboywalton · 26/04/2016 14:36

i am feeling very emotional

HelenaDove · 26/04/2016 14:37

Thing is there were near misses at matches in the EARLY 80s So why wernt lessons learned then.

BastardGoDarkly · 26/04/2016 14:38

It's disgusting these families have had to fight so hard for 27 years, to get those responsible to admit their part.

To blame the fans/victims was beyond heinous, and they should all be on trial, every fucking one.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 26/04/2016 14:38

Realistically what can he be charged with though? Unless there is evidence of him hiding evidence given to The Sun, he was just a tabloid editor who was a fucking arsehole but eventually retracted. What can be done? Genuine question btw, is there a hope for him being prosecuted for anything?

gymboywalton · 26/04/2016 14:39

he has NEVER apologised

gymboywalton · 26/04/2016 14:39

slander? libel?

BastardGoDarkly · 26/04/2016 14:40

I actually meant those that lied over and over in court.

The editor was just doing what he was told by the politicians, as they all do.

gymboywalton · 26/04/2016 14:42

absolutely
i agree completely

PaulAnkaTheDog · 26/04/2016 14:43

I never said he apologised, I said he retracted. Aren't slander and libel civil court charges? That's why I'm asking if there is anything criminal be could be charged with.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 26/04/2016 14:44

Sorry Bastard my comments weren't to you, xposting going on there, someone said he should have been charged. I totally agree with your post about those lying in court.

FatherReboolaConundrum · 26/04/2016 14:45

Good point made by Terry Christian on twitter.

Exactly right, or if it had been 96 spectators at Henley. And the chances of them being labelled drunks who brought it on themselves would have been zero.

here Flowers for you and your dad, and everyone else still living with what happened.

"I am not from Liverpool- I'm a Manc- but it has touched all of the Northwest."
YY, I'm from Warrington and feel the same.

This was written on the publication of the Hillsborough Report in 2012 but seems appropriate today

Liverpool

The Cathedral bell, tolled, could never tell;

nor the Liver Birds, mute in their stone spell;

or the Mersey, though seagulls wailed, cursed, overhead,

in no language for the slandered dead...

not the raw, red throat of the Kop, keening,

or the cops' words censored of meaning;

not the clock, slow handclapping the coroner's deadline,

or the memo to Thatcher, or the tabloid headline...

but fathers told of their daughters; the names of sons

on the lips of their mothers like prayers; lost ones

honoured for bitter years by orphan, cousin, wife-

not a matter of football, but of life.

Over this great city, light after dark;

truth, the sweet silver song of the lark.

I am happy they have got justice but it's not right it has taken 27 years. There's a place in hell for those responsible. And for those who covered it up.

thesockgap · 26/04/2016 14:59

I wouldn't quite call it justice - that day will come when those individuals who were responsible for causing the disaster, are brought to book and punished for their actions.
However, after the panel findings, this is the second vital step on the road to justice. Can't believe it's taken 27 years to get to this point, how many more years is it going to be?
Nonetheless, today's verdicts came as wonderful news.

HelenaDove · 26/04/2016 15:02

Im from Essex and have always believed the families and in their fight for justice.

HelenaDove · 26/04/2016 15:06

And kudos to writer Jimmy McGovern whose drama doc of Hillsborough raised more awareness of the facts of what happened.

LittleMissBossyBoots · 26/04/2016 15:17

I still cannot get my head around how they managed to maintain the lie for so long. This wasn't a case of one word against another about events hidden from view and belief coming down on the side of those perceived most trust worthy. This was a major public event with press and cameras everywhere and god knows how many millions watching around the world. Millions who watched it unfold live, who saw the truth and who knew straight away that the police were lying. Confused

JugglingFromHereToThere · 26/04/2016 15:17

You'll never walk alone Flowers

Good to see the families and friends singing this together outside court after the verdict.
I hope it brings them a little peace x
