I have a son and the thought of him happily going to a football match and being killed there fills me with horror - justice at last, why did it take so bloody long though. Prosecutions should now follow this verdict.

JoyFantastic · 26/04/2016 13:40

They never did walk alone. They had a whole city behind them and Liverpool should be immensely proud of that Flowers

herethereandeverywhere · 26/04/2016 13:41

My brother was 9. He's now a married man of 36 with a daughter of his own.

He got to live his life when the 96 had theirs stopped in their tracks. All those years of laughing and loving and achieving. All gone. 38 victims were 19 or under and 78 were 30 or under.

bigbuttons · 26/04/2016 13:43

Can't believe there are posters griping about the thread title! How petty and small minded.

SurlyValentine · 26/04/2016 13:43

No family should have to go through what these families have. The way they've been lied to and evidence covered up is disgusting, and criminal charges should be brought against those responsible.

herethere Thanks

TheCrimsonPleb · 26/04/2016 13:43

Such a disgraceful state of affairs that it's taken so long to get this point.

I hope the CPS pick this up now and we get real justice.

Helmetbymidnight · 26/04/2016 13:44

Thread titles have to be absolutely obvious now?
It would take 5 seconds at most to find out or work out the subject matter.

The campaigners have been incredible. They deserve knighthoods or something.

herethereandeverywhere · 26/04/2016 13:44

I should add that mercifully he was not in the crush in the pens. They were outside in the place where the gates had been opened and sat above so saw it unfold. My dad feels a mix of survivors guilt and 'what if'? Several times previously he'd taken my brother to big games and had tickets for the standing section. It was pure luck their tickets were for seating that day.

I will never forget the horror watching the news. I was 15. I am 42 now. It has taken that long.... the families have fought so well, with such dignity and with strength and resolution.

SatsukiKusakabe · 26/04/2016 13:47

We bought The Sun when I was growing up, so you can imagine the limits of my knowledge of what happened at Hillsborough.

When I found out more about what actually occurred that day as a young adult who consumed news from other outlets, and especially with the new inquiry, I was horrified. I actually married a Liverpool fan, and felt privileged to be in the Kop on the 15th anniversary (though I support a different team). This is something which affects everyone, whatever sporting allegiance, and those with none.

I feel so emotional for those poor families, to lose their loved ones at a football match, but then to have to endure lies, smears and cover-ups for years is heartbreaking. I'm glad they have finally brought the truth to the light, but they should never have had to.

I had to pull over when the news came on in the car to cry.

In absolute awe of the families for their strength and courage, their fight for justice these past 27 years has been inspirational. I am proud to be from Liverpool even more so today than any other day.

Just had a text from my dad. He so rarely reveals his emotions and would never talk about the events of that day, never reach out. Anyway it's had me in tears in the office. I hope a bit of him will be at peace for the rest of his life (he's over 70 now).

Snowwhiteandrosered · 26/04/2016 14:00

Justice at the last for the 96, it's been a long time coming. JF 96. Flowers.

Herethereandeverywhere, I hope so.

LagunaBubbles · 26/04/2016 14:05

Not that it is likely but if there were going to be prosecutions I would love to see one of them being Kelvin Mackenzie.

HelenaDove · 26/04/2016 14:05

The one ambulance driver that did make it onto the pitch suffers PTSD to this day

I am not from Liverpool- I'm a MancGrin- but it has touched all of the Northwest.

Thinking of the family of Anne Williams- aStar who worked so hard and never gave up hope. Sleep well tonight, Anne.

Great news. Hopefully the 96 souls will be able to rest peacefully, now.
Will there be any jailings

HelenaDove · 26/04/2016 14:12

Anne Williams ......Rest in peace now Thanks

LittleMissBossyBoots · 26/04/2016 14:14

First steps to justice. Justice will be when the cell door clangs shut on those responsible and those who colluded in the cover up.

snorepatrol · 26/04/2016 14:15

This happened on my 7th birthday I remember my family watching in horror and I couldn't grasp what was going on. I'm grown up with a 7 year old myself now and I can't believe it's taken the families so long to get justice.

I'm so proud of the families for taking on widespread government and police corruption and winning. It must have seemed impossible at times but they kept going and going for 27 years.

How much public money has been wasted on covering this over the years it's utterly disgraceful.

Goingtobeawesome · 26/04/2016 14:16

I've just read that it was said that it was neither here or there if the victims died at 3:20, 3:30 or 4pm Angry.

There has to be prosecutions for those that did not do their job then and have lied since.

A pp is right, the fans and their families NEVER were walking alone. I'm not the only person who has cried today who has no connection to Hillsborough.

Personally, I have received justice after almost 30 years for something and it really does help. I hope the families can feel some peace 💐
