I'm in England and educated, gosh I even follow the news, but the thread title was not obvious and it's arrogant to suggest people would automatically know what it was about. If you are a particular follower of the tragic events in Hillsborough then you would probably be aware of what it meant, to anyone else it's not surprising they think it's a car number plate. I certainly did.

LagunaBubbles · 26/04/2016 13:12

So pleased for the families and everyone affected by this.

chicaguapa · 26/04/2016 13:13

96 people killed. The jury has deemed that to have been unlawful. And there are how many posts complaining they didn't understand the thread title. WTF! Does it matter? Is that more important than acknowledging the victory for the bereaved families or asking questions about how long it's taken to reach this point? Hmm

shovetheholly · 26/04/2016 13:15

It's not like you have to read down more than a couple of posts, even if you're unaware of the hashtags associated with the campaign.

Ricardian · 26/04/2016 13:16

The Scum can't even bring themselves to put a journalist on the piece, and it's not even their top story.

www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/7106538/Hillsborough-verdict.html

It's just a "staff reporter", which means it's agency copy. It doesn't mention the Sun's role. They're presumably going to hope that everyone's forgotten.

Well said.

chicaguapa · 26/04/2016 13:19

Maybe it's time to campaign to get The Sun closed down now. Wink There should certainly be an enquiry into how they were able to unequivocally blame the fans and destroy thousand of people's reputations.

Northernexile · 26/04/2016 13:21

Thank God this verdict has finally come. JFT96 at last. I have been glued to the BBC website all morning, not got much work done. I just hope someone pays for this in some way now, especially those involved in the cover up and smear campaign against the fans.

I agree- please stop posting about the thread title, it's quite obvious what this is about if you read down a line or two.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 26/04/2016 13:22

The Sun has survived all the bad press until now, it's not going anywhere. People still buy the scummy rag. Angry

The verdict is clearly a massive relief to all the families.

What a heartbreaking tragic event. All those young people.

ParadiseCity · 26/04/2016 13:24

I've been following the Echo since 11am, justice at last. RIP 96, YNWA.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 26/04/2016 13:25

Re. title: I don't think people were meaning to be insulting. It is more that a lot of people won't even come on the thread because the abbreviation doesn't mean anything to them. That's all people meant really.

FrikkaDilla · 26/04/2016 13:26

What an absolute disgrace that something like this has taken so many years. I feel like I'm living in some banana republic when I see how long this has taken. Why do authorities / governments get off with this?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/04/2016 13:28

Almost 30 years
Shameful

age81 · 26/04/2016 13:29

JFT96 finally.....YNWA

herethereandeverywhere · 26/04/2016 13:32

The title to the thread (JFT96YNWA) became a sort of code for 'those in the know'. It stands for Justice For The 96 [victims] You'll Never Walk Alone and is often the closing to a post or tweet about Liverpool Football Club (whether or not referencing the Hillsborough Disaster). To my mind it's similar to the shape of a fish that Christians used to scrawl during Roman persecution (I'm comparing symbols, not the 2 experiences BTW).

Whether by accident or design it invites supporters of the cause and those in the know rather than a neutral title like any other piece of news.

I have no view on the rights or wrongs of the thread title.

My father, brother and uncle were all there that day. All alive but all never the same. This means more to my family and my home town than I can put into words.

HelenaDove · 26/04/2016 13:33

JFT96 Finally. It should NOT have taken this long.

27 years of fighting and they did it with dignity and grace. YNWA Thanks Thanks

ouryve · 26/04/2016 13:33

Wasn't obvious to me, either. And I still haven't worked out YNWA.

I can't believe this has taken almost 3 decades. I was in 6th form when it happened.

ouryve · 26/04/2016 13:34

X-posted with herethereandeverywhere. Thanks for explaining it.

Undertheboredwalk · 26/04/2016 13:36

St George's Hall in Liverpool now.
So pleased with today's verdict, such a long fought for victory!
