I'm being totally U and preparing to be flamed but does anyone else find this guy really annoying?

6 months in Space (yawn) and today running the marathon on a treadmill. Bore off.

OP posts:
bornwithaplasticspoon · 24/04/2016 15:05

Yabu. Kids love him and are learning loads. Dd loves the bits he's done on Blue Peter.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 24/04/2016 15:07

6 months in Space (yawn)

Where did the money come to fund this ego trip anyway?

I laughed out loud at these. Probably the deadest-end comments I've read all week.

You obviously know nothing about it, so it might be worth educating yourself a tiny bit. Even my DC know about various projects that the ISS are engaged with for crops/growing/propagation and so on.

But you know, it's probably really fucking boring. Grin

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 24/04/2016 15:12

I think people who are talking about the ISS as "looking for other planets" might need to look at the work going on up there.

However it does highlight the PR job science needs to do if people regard it as pointless.

specialsubject · 24/04/2016 15:15

It is called science. The same thing that allows us all to blabber on the internet.

I love major Tim because he is clearly having so much fun ! And doesn't take himself too seriously. He is also intelligent and hard working, so that is bound to trigger playground jealousy.

TiggerPiggerPoohBumWee · 24/04/2016 15:16

However it does highlight the PR job science needs to do if people regard it as pointless

I don't think there is anything they can do about the fact that some people have no interest in science, exploration, pushing the human experience....and would rather know more about Kim kardashians arse or who's eating kangaroo testicles in the jungle...Hmm

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/04/2016 15:17

Yabu. The end.

Fozzleyplum · 24/04/2016 15:18

YABVU. Consider yourself flamed.

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2016 15:22

Why do people just out a name as a thread title? Hmm I always click thinking they are going to be dead or something.

I am glad he's alive. Smile And if you find him annoying he is easily avoided.

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2016 15:23

*put

LarryStylison · 24/04/2016 15:28

I think he's trying to raise his profile so that he can do Celeb BB or IACGMOOH when he comes back down.

dodobookends · 24/04/2016 15:29

We need to sort this planet out That's one of the reasons why they're up there..

Hulababy · 24/04/2016 15:30

YABVU! No, definitely don't find him annoying at all; quite the opposite.

He's inspiring. He's doing a great job and making it even more interesting and engaging for many people.

I'd far rather see/hear someone like Tim Peake than some z list celeb who's only famous for being in some reality TV or whatever.

We need MORE people like this in our media, not less.

araiba · 24/04/2016 15:33

its great when people show their utter ignorance of a subject

yeah, what has cutting edge science ever done for me?

Shockingundercrackers · 24/04/2016 15:33

Yeah Peake, you with your boring space endeavours. Pushing the boundaries of science and like, running 26.2 miles and stuff.

YAWN.

Like others OP I would LOVE to know what Sunday's round your house are like if you find extreme acts of athletic endurance IN ACTUAL SPACE a bit boring.

I've managed one load of washing and a trip to the gym. Felt quite proud of that till Major Tim came along and ruined it for the rest of us... Confused

BIWI · 24/04/2016 15:35

A great thread for identifying The Stupid. Thanks OP.

scotsgirl64 · 24/04/2016 15:38

For those of you who think space exploration is boring and a waste of money, where would we be without some of the inventions that have become everyday use because of this?
Dialysis machines for those with renal failure,
Velcro ,
water filters
, memory foam,
insulation,
freeze drying
, work out machines
, insulin pumps
, infra red thermometers
, CT scans,
better computer software
,cochlear implants,
solar energy,
smoke detectors
Artificial limbs
The list goes on......
.....bit like asking 'what did the Romans ever give us?'
Better get back to your reality TV then if you don't think you've benefitted in any way from space exploration!
Pity there aren't more people like Tim Peake and the like who are prepared to do this amazing work

Blatherskite · 24/04/2016 15:39

yeah, what has cutting edge science ever done for me? Grin

2 of my mates were interviewed on the VML coverage. They're run 274 marathons between them. Tim's still more impressive.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/04/2016 15:39

Ego trip?

Unreasonable and dim. And that really IS the end.

Hulababy · 24/04/2016 15:40

You know, actually being social, enjoying people's company and not fucking off to space for 6 months is fulfilling enough for me. Where did the money come to fund this ego trip anyway?

Oh dear. You can't really be so ignorant or incapable of researching this kind of thing surely?!?!

I think you'll find that he is

  • still being social - isn't that par of what you're complaining about - he's being too social for your liking!
  • he is spending time with other people - he is not alone of the ISS and he is spending time with people via the satellite links
  • he hasn't just disappeared off up to space for nothing - it is his JOB, his CAREER; he isn't just having a bit of fun; he is doing important work up there!
  • where did the money come from? - try googling at least before making such an ignorant snide remark! He works as part of the ESA which is funded by lots of European countries. The UK contributes but is the not the largest contributor. The UK also gets a decent return on its investment into the ESA. Part of maintaining Tim Peake's status up there, and getting his name/work talked about, is going to give even greater returns too.
  • ego trip - really???????!!!!!!!!!

He is the first British ESA astronaut to go and live on the ISS. Of course British people, as well as people from further afield, are going to be interested him, on the whole.

FannyFifer · 24/04/2016 15:42

He's no Chris Hadfield though is he.
I liked following all Chris's updates from the ISS, but this Tim fella, I dunno, he's just like, so worthy or something.

derxa · 24/04/2016 15:43

God, I thought I was a miserable bastard! Grin
I do find him annoying in the same way as I find Jessi Ca Rennis Hill annoying.
I wish he would stop trying to be a 'personality'.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 24/04/2016 15:43

They have to exercise for more than 2 hours a day to keep their muscles being strong enough stop their skeletons from collapsing when they get back to earth.

It's a fascinating thing about gravity that we will watch him running the marathon and then next month (I think) he will land on earth and will have to be carried off his shuttle as he won't be able to walk or even crawl. (Apparently one of them tried to crawl once right after landing and immediately head butted the floor.)

My Dd has just turned 6. For her 5th party she had a Frozen party and dressed up as Elsa. For her 6th party she had a science / space party and dressed up as an astronaut. She no longer wants to be a princess. She wants to be an astronomer. This is all because of Tim Peake.

Hulababy · 24/04/2016 15:44

If I was on the ISS, especially being the first British EAS astronaut to be on there, I reckon I'd be enjoying my time to the full too, and probably be on social media talking about it as well. Too right I'd be using all the given opportunities to promote the important work me and my colleagues were doing, and highlighting what life on the ISS was like.

Chris Hadfield was similar when he was aboard.

How rotten of these type of people trying to engage , entertain and educate people, young and old, about space and space research!

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/04/2016 15:45

I love science and space, and think spending 6 months on the ISS would be amazing, and appreciate how ridiculously hard astronauts work to get to this point. But. I can't bear the being trotted out for the media at every possible opportunity. Wishing Wales a happy St David's day? Packing a fake tuxedo so you can give someone a Brit award? I don't suppose it's his fault though.

FatPaul · 24/04/2016 15:45

I lost interest in the OP as soon as she described the space trip as an ego trip.

You sound absolutely miserable OP, what have you done with your life?
