I'm being totally U and preparing to be flamed but does anyone else find this guy really annoying?

6 months in Space (yawn) and today running the marathon on a treadmill. Bore off.

OP posts:
SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 24/04/2016 14:29

Is your dad Mr Darcy?

:o

bakeoffcake · 24/04/2016 14:30

Oh you are a one OP.

What are you up to today then?

Anything interesting?

ScarletOverkill · 24/04/2016 14:32

Are you Katie Hopkins OP?
She appears to feel the same as you!

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 24/04/2016 14:32

Im with you OP.

I get why he's up there and stuff, but why does he have to run the marathon? Why does he have to pop up all the time with other things that are not about space or his work?

FluffyBunny1234 · 24/04/2016 14:35

Yanbu I find him massively boring. I've yet to meet an interesting 'Tim' though.
We had this awful space thing come to our brownies where it was made to look like you could talk to him and that's how it was presented but of course it was pre-recorded. The lady got in a right flap when the children went off message and asked different questions to the script, then Tim & the kids all started talking over eachother Grin
Actually it was hilarious for that reason

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 24/04/2016 14:36

No he doesn't HAVE to. Maybe he's setting himself a physical challenge. Maybe he wants to support the runners from space the way that people on the ground are supporting him? Maybe he thinks it's good publicity for both the marathon AND the mission.

Can honestly not see why this would offend anyone. Bizarre.

APotterWithAHappyAtmosphere · 24/04/2016 14:37

I am massively excited by Space and would love to spend six months on the ISS, can't think of anything less boring. The photos have been wonderful. Also love that DS is so inspired; his nursery is taking part in the RHS Rocket Science scheme too.

Obviously they need public interest and support to help with continued funding, although it does seem like the PR side takes over sometimes and Tim Peake is certainly popping up everywhere! I would like to see a few more serious programmes about his work alongside the more fun stuff like the Heston space food and the dickie bow t shirt.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 24/04/2016 14:38

I think some of the people running the London marathon and their families and friends might be inspired by Tim Peake running one in space too - a bit of solidarity with all those people and all the personal reasons and causes that they're running for.
Have to go and watch the marathon one year - especially as everyone runs out of Greenwich Park, then I'd go down the hill and catch up with them running round the Cutty Sark - both those being special places to me from childhood and since.
All very inspiring and heart-warming to me.
You sound a tad jaded with life - or perhaps you're just not that into space.
My generation grew up with the moon landings (though I don't remember the first one) so it will always have a bit of magic for us.

ChameleonCircuit · 24/04/2016 14:38

I'd like to point out that the OP is not me (chameleon related NN). I love Tim Peake, especially since he liked one of my tweets. Grin It's hardly antisocial to go to space when you make sure you share the awesome stuff with your thousands of Twitter followers.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 24/04/2016 14:40

I'd hate to have to entertain you OP.

TiggerPiggerPoohBumWee · 24/04/2016 14:42

1.Why the fuck shouldn't he? Because YOU think its boring? Lots of people are interested.
and

  1. What do you know about his work at all? Nothing, I'm guessing. Running a marathon in space could be a serious experiement, with lots to discover.
BennyTheBall · 24/04/2016 14:43

I like him and his smiley face.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 24/04/2016 14:44

I would so show that man a GOOD time

there is something very appealing about these astronaut types...the one on the big bang theory, the guy that threw himself out of space with a parachute, the other one who played space oddity ...i really need to remember names

so competent, self reliant, interesting!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 24/04/2016 14:46

mike massimo, chris hadfield, and felix baumgartener ...I googled.

will need names for updating the list

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 24/04/2016 14:47

Not to mention Matt Damon in The Martian. The epitome of self reliance and ingenuity, the man who made botany sexy. Yeah baby.

(That was a documentary, right? Not a movie?...)

MitzyLeFrouf · 24/04/2016 14:49

YABVU!

People who find Tim Peake and the ISS boring are boring. So yabu.

Only sensible people get to go into space anyway. Edgy and controversial people aren't suitable for a risky, intense role.

The crew that go up there are sharing amazing sciency bits (tech words there Wink) and inspiring kids and adults.

Trumpette · 24/04/2016 14:50

Tim Peake...boring, boring, boring and smug!

We need to sort this planet out never mind exploring others. X

Helmetbymidnight · 24/04/2016 14:51

He's awesome- He makes me feel like science and space is for everyone. And that's a wonderful thing.

sirfredfredgeorge · 24/04/2016 14:52

I don't find him boring at all, I do however wonder after being told how space research is all about science and all the great research that justifies the cost of putting people on a space station, when there's so many PR stunts.

If the science is really so pointless, just don't do it...

SwedishEdith · 24/04/2016 14:53

God, I thought I was a miserable bastard!

I love his photos from space , I love space exploration being made understandable and accessible and, unless you were actively following him, he's pretty easy to ignore.

bearleftmonkeyright · 24/04/2016 14:59

I loved the cbeebies miss mouse thing and mine are far too old for it. He has shared and posted and mentioned children on his Facebook page who have written to him which I think is great. He had to train for years for this didn't he? I find it all fascinating. I am a regular space station spotter.

Trumpette · 24/04/2016 15:00

You can learn about science with our going in to space! Loads of scientific jobs on this planet. Yes he has made it accessible and kids have been inspired which
I think is great. I am doubtful how 'useful' his trip is day to day especially due to the cost to tax payers. Bit like the royals really but that's another thread...

Blatherskite · 24/04/2016 15:03

Bore off? Are you 13?

We saw videos from Tim Peake while at the Space Museum over Easter. It was great. Really made us feel like anyone could be an astronaut.

The percentage of people in the UK who have run a marathon is tiny. The percentage of people who have been to space is vanishingly small. I would guess that no one has run a marathon in space before. The man is an inspiration.

And I would guess that there will be all sorts of tests done on him now to see how his body is fairing in zero gravity. It's not just a PR stunt.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 24/04/2016 15:04

Howard Wolowitz is a space plumber. :P
