Serenity05 I walked down the aisle to the theme too!
(note- I did NOT think I was a Princess......just a bride!)

abuhamzamouse · 23/04/2016 20:34

The film is brilliant, beautiful & funny. (And it has Peter Cook in it so its obviously outstanding).

I just love it and watch it at least once a year.

abuhamzamouse · 23/04/2016 20:36

The OP has started a land war in Asia - NEVER DO THAT!

GinIsIn · 23/04/2016 20:37

I genuinely can't understand how anyone could not find it funny! Shock

I don't think it is an age thing - DH didn't see it until he was in his 30s and I made him watch it at gunpoint and he still thinks it's funny. OP, if you don't mind me asking, what do You find funny?! Be sure to my mind, YABVVVVVVU!

GinIsIn · 23/04/2016 20:38

Because, not be sure -
Shock has robbed me of the power of grammar!

ScrambledSmegs · 23/04/2016 20:39

The book is balls.

DH and I were considering asking the registrar to start our wedding ceremony with Peter Cooke's speech -

"Mawwiage. Mawwiage is what bwings us togethew today. Mawwiage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam within a dweam. And wove, twue wove, wiww fowwow you fowevah and evah… So tweasuwe youw wove"

Sadly we were both too chicken to bring it up.

ThePrincessButtercup · 23/04/2016 20:40

You're saying I need to watch the film?
I'm saying you MUST watch the film!

MammasBrandNewBag · 23/04/2016 20:41

I just want you to feel you’re doing well. I hate for people to die embarrassed.

Y are of course BVU

TheRealBarenziah · 23/04/2016 20:43

I watched the film for the first time aged 27. I enjoyed it, and laughed at the funny bits, but I certainly didn't think it lived up to all the hype.

YouTheCat · 23/04/2016 20:43

Scrambled, renew vows and do it then? Grin

TheSnowFairy · 23/04/2016 20:46

Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) played Saul in Homeland.

TPB also starred Fred Savage (Wonder Years), Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Christopher Guest, Peter Cook, Billy Crystal, Peter Falkirk (Colombo).

Timeless and funny.

YABVVVVU

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/04/2016 20:48

I do think it's probably a film you first need to see as a kid.

I never saw Labyrinth or the Neverending Story when I was a nipper so now find them to be a total snooze.

I watched it at the first time when I was 30.

DH was about 36 when he first watched it- we both love it.

MinervaMcG · 23/04/2016 20:52

I watched it as a child and don't get it either, OP.

I also don't get Dirty Dancing.

I love the way that Chris Sarandon is channeling James Mason throughout the film.

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/04/2016 20:54

Yes, Dirty Dancing is shite.

SummoningDark · 23/04/2016 21:02

I never saw it as a child and it's in my top 3 films.

My Princess Bride fact is that Andre the Giant used to get a lift to school from Samuel Beckett the playwright as he was too big for the bus.

MintyChapstick · 23/04/2016 21:04

The Never Ending Story is amazing! I fail to see how any one can't be moved to tears by the scene where the horse sinks into the quicksand!

Skrewt · 23/04/2016 21:06

Dirty Dancing is a rite of passage!!! It came out when I was 15 so it was totally aimed at me and my peers. Remember when The Princess Bride first came out there was no internet. So I watched it and thought it was brilliant but never knew that many people thought the same til I saw comments on Facebook. Maybe the OP's expectations were too high which is never a good stating point.

Op YABVVVVU, you miserable vomitous mass.

EverySongbirdSays · 23/04/2016 21:07

Dirty Dancing is shite.

HOW VERY DARE YOU INDEED?????!!!!!!

BuunyChops · 23/04/2016 21:19

The Maui wedding thread put that in a loop in my head. "Maui-age. Maui-age...."

Nefer795 · 23/04/2016 21:21

Had to sign on to mumsnet just for this thread.
Loved seeing so many other people quoting from one of my favourite films. OP, watch the film before you make a final judgement. It's utterly inspired lunacy. Love it!
Titanic, on the other hand....
