Liar! Liar!

PovertyPain · 23/04/2016 18:58

Don't ask me, I hated Titanic with Leanardo what's-is-face. Boring load of tripe.

I'm with you and MintyChapstick, OP. Something tells me we're in the minority.

Love Labyrinth, though.

VestalVirgin · 23/04/2016 19:01

I like the part with Inigo Montoya. In the novel. That's one of the funny bits as far as I am concerned.
Haven't seen the movie.

blueberrypie0112 · 23/04/2016 19:01

I believe the book came after the film and princess bride was made for the film. What I have learned that when books are base off of films, it is rarely as good as the film, and versa vice.

Watch the film if any of you haven't done so.

Princess bride is a classic. And my favorite.

HoneyDragon · 23/04/2016 19:01

Poverty

That's makes you normal and observant. Titanic was shit.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/04/2016 19:02

I'm almost certain the book came first. I think it was a 70s cult classic.

EverySongbirdSays · 23/04/2016 19:04

I'm going to be the lone voice here OP

I was bought the book/film as a gift. Quite liked book. Thought film vastly overrated and unfunny and only really remember the one very famous line.

YANBU, but I often go against the grain without knowing why. It's not deliberate!

CremeEggThief · 23/04/2016 19:04
Confused
blueberrypie0112 · 23/04/2016 19:04

Oops, I was wrong. Book came before the film. Sorry. Someone told otherwise

EverySongbirdSays · 23/04/2016 19:06

Anyone who doesn't get Labyrinth however....

What the fuckity fuck is this ACTUAL BLASPHEMY??????!!!!

HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME

ScrambledSmegs · 23/04/2016 19:06

You've fallen prey to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is never go in against a Sicilian, when Death is on the line! Ahahaha! Ahahaha! Aha...

MrsBenWyatt · 23/04/2016 19:07

YABU. It's fantastic. I loved the book, too. DD (6) loves it as well!

SueTrinder · 23/04/2016 19:10

I saw it for the first time in my 40s. It's OK. Not brilliant, not terrible, mildly amusing. DH thinks it's a work of genius but we have different taste in films and at least it's not as boring as Mon Oncle. I know that opinion probably makes me a philistine but I can live without French Mime. Or Jean de Florette, that is seriously the most depressing fucking film in the world. Why, just why?

I think only the truly greatest films live beyond their time. Even very good films date because of acting styles or technology or comedy. I also think you need to be the right age to watch a film as well, my parents hated Star Wars whereas as a child I loved them and so there's still a nostalgia when watching them. I think that's what you and I are missing when we watch The Princess Bride.

Notso · 23/04/2016 19:10

I've never heard of it.

RobinHumphries · 23/04/2016 19:12

I will admit to loving it and labyrinth too. It's not so much funny as just a lovely feel good movie.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 23/04/2016 19:15

I don't get it either. Blimey, my sister made me watch it with her so many times, so my dislike certainly doesn't stem from lack of exposure! Grin

I loathe Titanic and Ghost. I really hate sentimental shite .

EverySongbirdSays · 23/04/2016 19:19

The ones that came before Jean De Florette were good, about the little boy La Gloire De Mon Pere and La Chateux De Ma Mere

IMurderedStampyLongnose · 23/04/2016 19:25

To not "get" The Princess Bride

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Or the right culture.even though I watch them anyway, there are movies from other countries I don't get either.
