Cutlery argument - tell me who's right?

The order of cutlery in the cutlery drawer. Should it go

A. Forks, knives, spoons

or

B. Knives, Forks, Spoons

Things have come to a head today after months of us both stealthily swapping them to the correct way, depending on who's unloading the dishwasher. I said I'd ask Mumsnet and whatever you say will be the way in future (even if it is the wrong way).

But where do sporks go?

bigbuttons · 23/04/2016 14:06

B

Haffdonga · 23/04/2016 14:07

B in our house but only because the left hand section is longer and the only one the knives fit in. Otherwise A would be correct.

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 23/04/2016 14:09

Another spoon, fork, knife here

DoomGloomAndKaboom · 23/04/2016 14:19

B

Anything else is for maniacs.

My aunt has her cutlery on a sort of carousel and just bungs it all on willynilly and doesn't put the same cutlery on the same spoke and I shudder every time I see it. The maniac.

It's knife, fork, spoon, other.

BackforGood · 23/04/2016 14:28

Out of those it HAS to be 'A' as quite clearly, when laying the table, you can then pick up the forks in your left hand and knives in your right and put them on the place mats without having to do some sort of cross armed dance.

I don't think it's as crucial where the spoons go, but would be inclined for them to be to the tight of the knives.

GreenShadow · 23/04/2016 14:33

Here it is purely determined by the size of the spaces in the cutlery tray. Therefore small knives, forks, spoons (with a wider space), larger knives (with a longer space).

rollonthesummer · 23/04/2016 14:33

Spoon, fork, knife!

Ameliablue · 23/04/2016 14:33

Whoever empties the dishwasher gets to choose.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 23/04/2016 14:38

Those saying "whoever empties the DW chosees" or "change regularly" - do you normally use all your cutlery every day? We never have the whole lot in the DW at once, there are always a few of each thing still in the drawer when you re-load it. Or are you moving the stuff that's still in there around too.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 23/04/2016 14:41

B.

NightWanderer · 23/04/2016 14:45

Ours are all randomly thrown into the drawer. We don't have compartments.

GrimmauldPlace · 23/04/2016 14:46

Forks, knives, spoons here

WingMirrorSpider · 23/04/2016 14:53

Definitely not a. It's either spoons, forks, knives or knives, forks, spoons.

The fork straddles courses so is happy with with both the knife and the spoon, therefore forks in the middle, always. Putting knives in the middle just upsets the balance, muscling in where they don't belong.

Blatherskite · 23/04/2016 14:53

Ours goes - Large compartment full of random things (chopsticks, medicine syringes, salad servers etc) then knives, then forks, then spoons.

This is entirely because our kitchen was redone when DS (PFB) was a toddler and having the knives in the centre of the drawer and therefore the hardest thing to reach from toddler height seemed sensible. He's 9 now and youngest DC is 6 but I just CBA to move them as I'm used to them where they are.

DesertOrDessert · 23/04/2016 14:55

Spoon, fork, knife, chopsticks, going left to right.

Ninjagogo · 23/04/2016 15:01

Huge spoons, knives, forks, desert spoons, tea spoons, random crap. The slots above the main ones are kids cutlery!

Izzabellasasperella · 23/04/2016 15:03

Spoons, little forks, big forks, knives and teaspoons in the section at the bottom.

crazywriter · 23/04/2016 15:10

A in this house.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 23/04/2016 15:13

Top drawer:
Normal spoons - forks - knives- big knives from left to right.
2nd drawer:
Soup spoon - dessert forks - dessert knives - and stuff like cheese slice, bottle opener, tin opener.

Teaspoons are kept by the kettle in a flowerpot (an item my late NDN' son let me have when she died)

I can't believe I'm taking part in this btw. I must really want to avoid sorting boxes in conservatory! Grin

NewYearSameMe · 23/04/2016 15:17

It's B. There's no particular reason, but if I had to make one up I'd say that forks should be in the middle because you can use a knife and fork, or a fork and spoon. Knives and spoons should not be beside each other because they are never used together. It's about ease and speed of getting the combination that you need.

Newtobecomingamum · 23/04/2016 15:18

B for us too!!

WeAllHaveWings · 23/04/2016 15:21
