Putting on your bra behind your back!

skislope · 13/04/2016 19:13

I remember reading a thead (or three) a while back that divided opinion about how people put their bras on. It was pretty much 50/50 that some fastened them behind their backs and some fastened them under boob then twisted round. I am in the latter camp and it did puzzle me how it's possible to do up your bra behind your back... Blush
However, I was at an aerobics class a few days ago, and the instructor asked us all to link our own hands behind our backs and connect them (if that makes sense!) which I couldn't do - neither could a lot of people (I noted as I was stood at the back observing!). We were all people of differing statures and weights (so not a 'long arm' issue) - so I wondered if the world's back bra fasteners are the same people that can connect their hands behind their backs?!

No, GG is bigger. Next size up from G.

Pastamancer · 14/04/2016 15:13

This website shows people that are 32GG, it's not as huge as it sounds once you understand how it works.

leedy · 14/04/2016 15:14

Yup, I'm really not big at all and I'm a 32DD/E, depending on the bra style.

Pastamancer · 14/04/2016 15:18

Our group has over 5000 members, all ages and sizes and we haven't found anyone who is less than a D.

icebearforpresident · 14/04/2016 15:22

36j here and only once in my life have I fastened my bra at the front,I swiftly took it off and put it on 'properly' because my boobs wouldn't sit right. It's not difficult I just do it by feel, once the first book is in the rest are easy. When I started wearing a bra that how I was told how to do it up.

My nana,80 years old, arthritic hands and a bit wobbly on her feet is very proud that she still does her bra up behind her back.

eloquent · 14/04/2016 15:34

If you can twist your bra around, surely that means it doesn't fit you Correctly?
You're only supposed to be able to just git 2 fingers under the band.
It would hurt for me to try and front fasten then get it around. And surely it ruins the elastic!?

Chloe1984 · 14/04/2016 15:44

AFuckOfFlora- I do the same as you!!!! I also take mine off the same way as you by reaching round the back, never thought it was unusual as I've always done it. I'm deffo the correct bra size too.

Squashysbrother · 14/04/2016 15:51

I fasten it at the back.

I think if you can twist it round it can't fit you properly as the band is supposed to be quite tight.

Pastamancer · 14/04/2016 15:52

Chloe can I ask how you know you are in the right size?

candykane25 · 14/04/2016 15:55

Why not H then rather than GG. A full cup is 1inch so if GG is one full cup bigger, H must be two inches bigger than G?
I thought it was half inch different.

Chloe1984 · 14/04/2016 15:56

I'm doubting it now, I got measured at m&s, I wear tshirt type bras normally though which are a bit stretchy but I can only stretch an inch if I pull the strap at the front, so I'm confused! Blush

KatharinaRosalie · 14/04/2016 15:56

Double letters are full sizes. GG is 1 inch bigger than G. yes, H is 2 inches bigger.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/04/2016 15:58

Chloe if you were measured by M&S then you are most likely not in the right size, but in about 4-5 inches too big band. Whish would explain why you can pull the bra on like a top.

Pastamancer · 14/04/2016 15:58

If M&S measured you then you are in the wrong size, they are awful. I am happy to advise by pm if you like?

Chloe1984 · 14/04/2016 16:03

Thanks for the tip ladies! I'll go somewhere else to get it done Smile

Pastamancer · 14/04/2016 16:04

Most of the high street is terrible, Bravissimo is about the only place I'd recommend. Do you have any independent bra shops nearby??

DerelictMyBalls · 14/04/2016 16:04

That bra band site is brilliant. I wore a 38dd for at least 15 years before getting properly measured and discovering I was 34F. It sounded enormous to me!

Back fastener here. I imagine the band would chafe if I turned the bra around once it was fastened.

BertieBotts · 14/04/2016 16:29

I should be a 28D according to those measurements, but in reality, I can't do the band of a 28 up at all, and I can't do a 30 up and breathe, so I tend to wear a 32B and the cups are often big on that. I think I'm probably smaller of nork at other times of the month.

Most of the time I just don't bother wearing one at all TBH because if I can find one that doesn't hurt to wear it doesn't actually do anything support wise and if I wear something which supports me I can't breathe. Also all B cups have stupid padding in which squishes your boobs and hurts. I don't mind it occasionally to give me a nice shape under a top or something, but I'd never wear one at home for relaxing and most days I have a mixture of the two and I can't be bothered to change halfway through.

candykane25 · 14/04/2016 16:30

But there's only one inch between A and B so what's AA?

BertieBotts · 14/04/2016 16:31

Oh I also breathe weirdly apparently. My entire chest fans out. Everybody who has had reason to inspect my ribcage comments on it Confused

BertieBotts · 14/04/2016 16:33

AA is basically 0 or 0.5. Or with the old system, it's when you have less than 4 inches between your band size and your breast measurement. Which is, er, me, for most of my life until now and also if I measure standing up :(

GeminiRising · 14/04/2016 16:34

40DD here and size 22 and I have always fastened my bra at the back!

My daughters, however, do theirs up from the front and twist them round.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/04/2016 16:36

AA is the only one smaller, means that your under- and overbust measurements are the same.
Bra sizing is totally bonkers, I agree. For most UK bands, it goes AA, A, B, C, D, DD, E, F (note, no EE), FF, G, GG etc.

BertieBotts · 14/04/2016 16:38

Wait hang on, if cup sizes are measured in one-inch intervals, then why do you only go up ONE cup size per band size you go down or vice versa? There are two inches between each band size!

Pastamancer · 14/04/2016 16:40

Nobody is an AA though so you can pretty much ignore it
