Putting on your bra behind your back!

I remember reading a thead (or three) a while back that divided opinion about how people put their bras on. It was pretty much 50/50 that some fastened them behind their backs and some fastened them under boob then twisted round. I am in the latter camp and it did puzzle me how it's possible to do up your bra behind your back... Blush
However, I was at an aerobics class a few days ago, and the instructor asked us all to link our own hands behind our backs and connect them (if that makes sense!) which I couldn't do - neither could a lot of people (I noted as I was stood at the back observing!). We were all people of differing statures and weights (so not a 'long arm' issue) - so I wondered if the world's back bra fasteners are the same people that can connect their hands behind their backs?!

I have poor coordination as a result of my Asperger's so it's almost impossible for me to fasten a bra behind me without me being able to see it (have tried loads of times). It's not a problem to unfasten it though, that is much easier. So to put on my bra I fasten it on the front and swivel it round. It's not a flexibility issue either because I can usually fasten zips and even sometimes buttons that are on the back of tops or dresses.

My mam first taught me to do this swivel around way as well as that's what she does, and she is left-handed (and at the time we didn't know I had Asperger's). So I'm wondering whether you might be onto something about left-handedness influencing it. Obviously for those of us who have coordination problems due to disability we are a different thing altogether really.

Fasten at the back. Fastening at the front and twisting seems very odd.

Back fastener here. I'm so confused. I started reading this thinking maybe the front-fasteners had small boobs, but no, people are saying they have big boobs and the more hooks mean that's why they do it round the front! When you say that, how big? I'm 32HH, and I just can't imagine how I could get my boobs into my bra unless I gathered them up into it with the strap undone. I bend over, scoop them up and start hooking - I was told the most proper way is to do the full hooking while bent over, but I don't have the patience for that and I can manage if I get the first hook in.

And I'm completely not getting the boobs falling out thing - are you putting on your bra standing up straight? Yes, I totally cannot see how I could get my boobs into the cups if I tried that, but I have no idea how having the strap hooked first would help!

Front then swivel it to back can't even recall if this is how my mum taught me...

I'm a bit Shock if someone says it buggers the wires or whatever of the bra. Nah try to do it the proper way tomorrow or in front of mirror so I can see what I'm doing behind my back! Ha!

I'm really astonished at the number of front fasteners. I honestly thought that back fastening was the overwhelming norm.

FWIW, I'm left-handed, as is my mum, and both of us back fasten easily.

Agree, I can understand back fastening if you are elderly or have restricted shoulder movement but unless you are really obese am surprised so many women can't fasten their bra at the back. Twisting it round sounds such a fangle, especially trying to get your arms then through the shoulder straps.
Is more yoga called for?

Understand front fastening I mean if shoulder problems. I run so like my bra fairly firm as well. Put my arms through the holes, get my breasts in position, fasten it up, adjust breasts.

Definitely a front fastener here.I fasten the band, swivel it round, then lean forward and do the scooping thing. Been doing this for nearly 40 years.

From the subject line I thought it was going to be about the OP's DH wearing her bra secretly Grin

Tangofandango · 17/04/2016 13:10

I'm a left-handed back fastener. Much quicker and easier than doing the twist.

This is the yoga back hand position:
