...to not wear pantyliners often?

This just occurred to me (for absolutely no reason other than being bored in the loo)...do people actually wear them all the time? I only wear them for the tail-end of my period, and then go without until the next one. Is that normal, or am I gross?

Oh huzzah! Pleased it's not just me!

Onlyconnect · 13/04/2016 21:15

Those of you who never use them, don't you find trousers/ leggings get a bit wiffy? I don't always just at certain times of the month.

flanjabelle · 13/04/2016 21:15

Oh. I thought it was just my fanjos party trick. I'm slightly upset that it's a common thing. Bye bye super fanny. Hello regular boring one.

Quietlifenotonyournelly · 13/04/2016 21:19

I wear panty liners just before my period starts and at the tail end.
I also wore them during my last pregnancy just in case I coughed or sneezed and couldn't cross my legs in time Blush

CalleighDoodle · 13/04/2016 21:23

I read page one then skipped to page 5. The thread went a very different way than i expected.

OddSocksHighHeels · 13/04/2016 21:28

Sorry flanja mine has done it since I was in my teens. It can be very embarrassing after going swimming.

Only no, not for me unless I have thrush. I found that when I did try liners there was a smell when there isn't normally. Bodies are strange things.

NameChanger22 · 13/04/2016 21:31

I've never worn them ever. I use tampons for periods. I don't see the purpose of pantyliners.

vdbfamily · 13/04/2016 21:38

every day here. Implant means that I can bleed randomly. also notice that underwear keeps so much nicer as no staining at all.

Purplebluebird · 13/04/2016 21:43

I don't wear them apart from during periods (if too light for a tampon)

MissTriggs · 13/04/2016 21:53

I find them useful for wiping the necks of the peri peri sauce bottle at Nandos

PebbleTTC · 13/04/2016 22:12

Flumplet - bleach stained knickers here too! Always wanted to ask gp why but was too embarrassed, thought I was the only one!

Blueandpinklove · 13/04/2016 22:14

Miss Triggs bhaahaaahahaa thank you for that! Smile

dementedma · 13/04/2016 22:16

Never wear them.

thatsn0tmyname · 13/04/2016 22:18

I only used to wear them at the tail end of my period. Having had two children Carefree is as uniform as my mascara.

MeadowHay · 13/04/2016 22:19

I'm 22, not had any children before, been wearing them almost every day since I was about 18. I get a lot of discharge, and it is pretty random about which days I will and which I won't really. Plus I have Asperger's and because of that I have specific sensory difficulties, I am hypersensitive to any feeling of dampness and I find it is much more bearable and comfortable to have a panty liner on to absorb some of it. If I have a particularly "gloopy" day I sometimes need to change it mid day. I never sleep with them on though (apart from on my period when I would sleep with a big sanitary towel on). I have never had thrush. I use Bodyform ones, they are not scented.

Can anyone who uses reusable ones link me to anything? I've genuinely never thought about it before and never heard of them before, I don't know why because I have heard of reusable sanitary towels. Considering I go through so many panty liners it must be bad for the environment and I'd definitely be interested in looking into reusable ones.

imwithspud · 13/04/2016 22:20

I don't think I've ever worn them. I thought they were for if you have lots of discharge or a weak bladder.

Happyat40 · 13/04/2016 22:31

Reuseables are lovely Meadow. So much softer and healthier.

Google Imse Vimse.

There is of course the initial outlay of buying them , but once you have set yourself up with enough it's really convenient and cheaper to have them sitting in your pants drawer ( they fold up into little envelopes Smile).

Caffeinator · 13/04/2016 22:41

Haven't RTFT but it put me in mind of this (yes, sometimes I do recall columns I read fifteen years ago, I think in this case it stuck in my mind because the black ones aren't sold now);

Just5minspeace · 13/04/2016 22:50

For all those who use liners for excessive discharge do see your GP. I ended up needing a small op as discharge was caused by cervical abrasions. Changed my life & stopped me randomly soaking through clothing...

Happyat40 · 13/04/2016 23:02

Ok so lots of judgeypants here tonight.

I cannot wear dresses/ skirts for work.

And I certainly know that lots of women on Mumsnet go commando - just not those on this thread obviously !

And no not a perve.

OddSocksHighHeels · 13/04/2016 23:25

Happy I have heavy discharge, I don't wear underwear quite often as it helps me to not get thrush, cysts and abscesses. I feel this thread has been quite lighthearted but I'm sorry you don't. But does it matter what a randomer thinks of your discharge (did I just type that?!), I'd guess not. I don't think people are judging but fuck them if they are, it's no big deal.

AbbeyBartlet · 13/04/2016 23:35

I wear two night time sanitary towels every day - judge away! Grin

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 13/04/2016 23:41

Wear them everyday. Having the coil seems to have given me more discharge and I leak a bit of wee if I sneeze

Tartyflette · 13/04/2016 23:45

I only wear them when
a/I've got a bad cough and am hacking fit to burst. They deal with the small escapes.
Or b/ if i'm travelling long distances, like flying long haul or driving across Europe, if I change the liner several times a day I feel fresher.

Caterina99 · 14/04/2016 01:50

I just assumed they were the same as pads. Until this thread. I'm 31. Obviously I'm lucky and don't have a discharge issue or heavy periods. When I was pregnant over the summer I often changed my knickers during the day as they were a bit damp - clearly this product would have avoided that need!
