Butter on croissants (lighthearted)

For the last 2 weeks DD has gone to her grandparents' house for breakfast with a pack of croissants which I didn't think anything of; they have jam, they have marmalade, all good with a croissant.

Cue me asking DD how she wanted her croissant this morning, to which she said 'sliced in half with butter on each half, like how grandma and grandad do it'.

WTAF?! Who puts butter on a croissant? It's like smearing Marmite on it! Who, just who, does that?! DD apparently loves it, but she loves butter so I'm in a no-win situation here.

Am I being unreasonable or is DD?

For me Croissants are in the same category as crumpets, toast, jacket potatoes. Nice as they all are, there primary purpose for me, is a vehicle for getting butter in my mouth, so avoiding the embarrassing display of eating an actual block of butter 😄 I view scones and cream in the same way 😌

Smear it with golden syrup, then stick it in the microwave.

My DD who has had major heart surgery ate a large pice of ripe Camembert with a huge dollop of Mayo on top. It was revolting!
I asked him if he really should be eating like that considering his condition.

I cut them in half lengthways and butter liberally. Don't care what the French do!

I sometimes put butter on Croissants. All Croissants except the freshly baked ones at Sainsbury's actually (Sainsbury's fresh baked are definitely the best Croissant. All brown and crisp on the outside and soft, fluffy and moist on the inside). If you want something to stop them being dry but you don't want anything that is going to overwhelm the delicious taste of the croissant then butter is the answer.

I have butter and jam on my croissant (not cut down the middle though, I still tear bits off - I'm not a complete philistine!) Grin

duckyneedsaclean · 11/04/2016 16:36

What's the point of a croissant without butter on it??

oldjacksscrote · 11/04/2016 18:23

YABU and they're even better with bacon and Brie

idontlikealdi · 11/04/2016 18:36

Of course you nutter a croissant! Only with real butter and you don't split it in half - you rip bits off and butter the buts, preferably with so much butter it looks like cheese.

Consequently croissants are only eaten on holiday or we'd all be 20 stone...

idontlikealdi · 11/04/2016 18:37

Butter. Butter FGS!!

CoffeeInTheMorning · 11/04/2016 20:25

Tear it in pieces.
Proper salty butter (preferably French)
A bit of (raspberry) jam sometimes or a bit of Nutella

Only eaten on holiday in France or if the really good ones are reduced in the supermarket for a special weekend breakfast.

Piffpaffpoff · 11/04/2016 20:41

(whispers) I have cheese spread on mine. Deeelicious!

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 11/04/2016 22:51

Cheese spread is the best Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 11/04/2016 22:53

yabvu

SerenityReynolds · 11/04/2016 22:57

YABU - purely for feeding her plain croissants instead of pain au chocolat! Grin

GooodMythicalMorning · 11/04/2016 23:00

we all butter them here. never.known any different. Even in france!

ICJump · 12/04/2016 05:23

Not sliced but torn with a little butter. Particularly the little end still warm from the oven

JapaneseSlipper · 12/04/2016 12:28

Ugh, my grandmother liked a thick layer of butter of stuff too, PUKE. I think it's a wartime thing. Like, butter is this big luxury to be savoured. NO. Butter is a means to an end and it makes food delicious, but you shouldn't be able to actually taste the butter itself if you know what I mean shudder
