Butter on croissants (lighthearted)

For the last 2 weeks DD has gone to her grandparents' house for breakfast with a pack of croissants which I didn't think anything of; they have jam, they have marmalade, all good with a croissant.

Cue me asking DD how she wanted her croissant this morning, to which she said 'sliced in half with butter on each half, like how grandma and grandad do it'.

WTAF?! Who puts butter on a croissant? It's like smearing Marmite on it! Who, just who, does that?! DD apparently loves it, but she loves butter so I'm in a no-win situation here.

Am I being unreasonable or is DD?

I'm a butterer and I'm not ashamed of it! The trick is to cut them in half, then heat them and then you can butter easily. Splodge of apricot jam next and stuff in face.

RhombusRiley · 10/04/2016 21:54

Wizard according to this thread, croissants are almost entirely butter, so that makes them... low carb! :)

quencher · 10/04/2016 21:57

Peanut butter and honey or peanut butter and strawberry jam. The taste on a croissant is priceless.

Butter would make it too greasy

PestilentialCat · 10/04/2016 21:58

I love butter but never on croissants - too buttery even for me! Just jam please preferably rhubarb

quencher · 10/04/2016 21:59

Every croissant should go in the oven to be crisped up then cut in half.

Yseulte · 10/04/2016 22:00

Nope sorry, no croissant or butter here. So much fat either way. I enjoy being a size 10 too much.

Being a size 8 doesn't stop me eating croissant. Wink

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 10/04/2016 22:14

YABU butter on croissants = yum
Double cream poured over ice cream = yum
Cheese spread and cheddar cheese melted onto toast = yum

Doubling up is good!

Oakmaiden · 10/04/2016 22:15

Butter and jam here.

It's like smearing Marmite on it! Who, just who, does that?!

Um. My dad has been known to put Marmite on croissant.

But he is .

The True French Way is to tear off bits of croissant, add a dab of butter and a dab of apricot jam and then dunk it in your coffee. Well known fact. At least in our house

badg3r · 10/04/2016 22:29

Everyone knows you don't cut a croissant. You tear it. And then slather in butter and jam. Heathens Wink

Croissants are yet another vehicle for butter, and anything like that are very much Bring It On in our house.

Today I introduced DH to the toasted and buttered scotch pancake.

He whispered that his life would never be the same again well his eyes seemed to say it

FuriousFate · 10/04/2016 22:42

I butter them! PILS don't. They think I'm terribly common Hmm

Yseulte · 10/04/2016 22:42

I do love a warm buttered scotch pancake Star

itsbetterthanabox · 10/04/2016 22:42

I like butter AND peanut butter on croissants. It's my birthday breakfast!

ThinkBeforePosting · 10/04/2016 22:45

I love butter on croissants - I very rarely have them though as they are too high in calories. Sad.

My DH loves them but we can't find nice ones. Any supermarket recommendations?

Scooterloo · 10/04/2016 22:46

I used to get a buttered croissant in a deli every morning before work, many moons ago when I could eat anything and never put on weight. The first time I ever went in for croissant they asked, 'do you want it buttered?', so I thought 'why not' , and it was delicious, it would have been a bit dry without as it was more of a bread type croissant that could be sliced in half, not a flaky one??

MrsJorahMormont · 10/04/2016 22:50

Butter on croissants is essential :o

Longdistance · 10/04/2016 22:57

Butter on croissants all the way. I must say I'm rather partial to pate on croissants too looks at huge arse Blush

shadowfax07 · 10/04/2016 23:17

Croissants come in two varieties in the house, butter and jam, or ham and cheese.

YABVVVVU to even have Marmite in the house, let alone think about spreading it on anything remotely (otherwise) edible. Grin

Greengardenpixie · 10/04/2016 23:21

Always butter. Sometimes Nutella. Its totally yummy with butter. Have you tried it??? Yucky jam. No way!!! It would spoil the croissant.

IndridCold · 10/04/2016 23:21

This is to awful to contemplate! A freshly baked croissant should be eaten alone, no toppings of any kind. Ever. What Sacrilege!

^ This. With knobs on.

I hate croissants in this country, pobby mush. Yuk!

Crumblevision · 10/04/2016 23:33

I haven't RTFT so apols if this has already been mentioned: I slice my croissants before warming them in the oven and then smother them with butter and jam

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 11/04/2016 00:52

When I was about 11 I was sent to spend Christmas with a French family. I was horribly homesick but one of the things that made it better was the breakfasts - a bowl of hot chocolate made with whole milk, and a delicious buttery croissant to dip in it. I had forgotten about that.

Now I butter my croissants, add jam (raspberry or apricot only) and drink with very strong coffee. Yum.

KittyWindbag · 11/04/2016 04:12

my main rule in life is that there can never be too much butter.

Archaea · 11/04/2016 04:16

ThinkBeforePosting The only nice flaky ones I've found in any supermarket are the Waitrose ones. All the others I find too "cakey"
