Butter on croissants (lighthearted)

Boogers · 10/04/2016 14:15

For the last 2 weeks DD has gone to her grandparents' house for breakfast with a pack of croissants which I didn't think anything of; they have jam, they have marmalade, all good with a croissant.

Cue me asking DD how she wanted her croissant this morning, to which she said 'sliced in half with butter on each half, like how grandma and grandad do it'.

WTAF?! Who puts butter on a croissant? It's like smearing Marmite on it! Who, just who, does that?! DD apparently loves it, but she loves butter so I'm in a no-win situation here.

Am I being unreasonable or is DD?

Oysterbabe · 10/04/2016 15:33

They need butter for lubrication.

DanceJunkie · 10/04/2016 15:46

Croissant with butter and jam for me, I had two this morning! Grin

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 10/04/2016 15:49

You can't have too much butter.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 10/04/2016 15:51

You don't cut croissants to butter them, you tear pieces off and then dab giant bits of salty butter on as you cram place them into your mouth.

I only cut them if filling one, preferably with bacon and brie. other morsels of salty pig and oozy cheese goodness are available

ScaredOffMyBoss · 10/04/2016 16:00

YABU! Butter in croissants is normal and lovely.

Lockheart · 10/04/2016 16:06

YABU. Butter is the proper way to do it. Ask the French.

Pipbin · 10/04/2016 16:12

I tear pieces off then add butter.

Cutting them in half is the work of the immoral.

NapoleonsNose · 10/04/2016 16:14

Definitely butter then. Break into small pieces and add butter liberally to each bit. Spent some time in France as a teen and the French definitely did this or dipped them in hot chocolate or coffee.

Friendlystories · 10/04/2016 16:17

DD has hers cut lengthways and buttered both sides, I cut mine almost through and fill with butter and strawberry jam, heaven!

incandescentalright · 10/04/2016 16:22

Butter don't butter, but don't get freaked out at the health implications of adding butter. Just eat something healthy if you're worried about too much fat!

cece · 10/04/2016 16:29

Croissants are greatly enhanced by adding more butter. Who on earth just has jam and no butter? Strange.

My mum puts sugar on her strawberries. She does it for my DC when we visit. However, they know I disapprove and that we don't do it that way at home. It is only available at Grannie's house.

Just a smear of butter but only if they are warm!

MaureenMLove · 10/04/2016 16:34

Butter and black current jam for me. And I also recreate the mushroom and cheese ones I used to have from Upper Crust on Victoria station, on my way to work every day!

JollyXmasJumper · 10/04/2016 16:39

Croissants should be eaten plain. And every time possible dipped in hot chocolate.

PointlessUsername · 10/04/2016 16:40

I just eat them as they come.

No butter, no jam, nada.

debbietheduck · 10/04/2016 16:52

Yes, tear pieces off and butter them. It's lovely. Or if I'm feeling restrained I eat them plain. Dubious about jam.

Cutting them in half and buttering is wrong, though, you should have words about that.

Turbinaria · 10/04/2016 16:54

I find items labelled as croissants in the uk can cover a wide range of things! The cheaper versions usually need you to add the butter that was omitted when they baked it Smile

TheDropBear · 10/04/2016 16:58

I'm a croissant heathen. Recently split one in half and filled it with peanut butter, marshmallow fluff and chocolate sauce.
Sounds wrong but it tasted great.

Janeymoo50 · 10/04/2016 17:01

Butter and marmite on croissants are brilliant for hangovers. Even better with a slice of nice ham and slice of swiss cheese (with butter obvs).

ChippyMinton · 10/04/2016 17:30

Unsalted butter and fig jam

PinkBuffalo · 10/04/2016 17:33

I put butter on them too! Slice them into sections and add butter to each bit. Don't have them very often though.

oliviaclottedcream · 10/04/2016 17:45

No butter here. Not health related choice, you just dont need it.. Jam, Nutella, Cheese and ham. In Italy you put little bars of plain choc in them.
