To find farts funny!

My DP and I disagree about whether farts are funny! I find them funny and giggle about them along with the DCs, immature I know Grin DP doesn't find them even remotely funny and tells the kids off for doing it (and I can never keep a straight face and he gets cross at me for undermining him!).
Are farts funny in your house?

I came from a family who laughed at them. I still do. DH came from a family who didn't, and you had to virtually pretend you didn't even have a bum. DH himself isn't bothered and does find humour in them in the right situations. He will walk along outside letting off real rip-roarers. He will do it indoors too, as will I. Just not at the table.

My DDs are 50/50 on accepting whether or not they are funny. DD3 tells us off if we fart. DD2 usually sniggers. DD1 tries to ignore.

jellyfrizz · 10/04/2016 18:58

Imagine they just farted away at school?

There's always at least one loud fart in primary assemblies. I used to have to try really hard to keep a straight face and would sit there, shoulders shaking, trying desperately hard not to catch another teacher eye or we'd all be in stitches.

Mousefinkle · 10/04/2016 19:05

I'm a full on prude when it comes to disgusting bodily functions... Farting is probably the worst one (and shitting but at least most people have the decency not to do it in front of you!). I used to make ExH leave the bedroom to do it because I can't stand the smell, it's grim. Probably partly why he's an ex Grin. They just gross me out.

revealall · 10/04/2016 19:13

Grim.

Yes everyone does them from time to time but it's not something to be "proud" of surely? Who wants to be around someone else's stink? Same with burping - keep your manky breath to yourself.

donajimena · 10/04/2016 19:45

I'm still puzzled. Surely if you have heard one you have heard them all?
As I said before an accidental or even a mis timed purposeful one is in my opinion very funny but on a daily basis. Nah.

SquidgeyMidgey · 10/04/2016 19:48

They're funny in this house. Except DH's codeine-fuelled bunged-up-tum monsters. They're most definitely not funny.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 10/04/2016 20:08

Noooo! They come in an infinite variety of sound and scent, from the tight-buttocked , through the full-bodied , to the evil, hot, so silent it doesn't even go , stinker that no civilised person has ever owned up to in the whole of history.

minesapintofwine · 10/04/2016 20:16

Yes they are funny!

3 year old ds farted in a speech appt. We both (me and the therapist) laughed, but I laughed a bit longer Blush

I love it when my dog farts and jumps up looking surprised Grin

Redglitter · 10/04/2016 20:18

I've never understood why anyone (over the age of 8) finds farting funny

BillyDaveysDaughter · 10/04/2016 20:22

I was brought up with a Victorian stepfather who denied the existence of farts or even an anus. Hence my DM and DB find them hilarious.

Luckily I married a man who also finds them funny and can produce a variety of highly amusing melodies.

Me, I am rather embarrassed by them and would try desperately to avoid farting in public, but I don't mind in front of DH. Although he says mine are pathetic.

And I loathe coriander.

donajimena · 10/04/2016 20:30

plenty I do take pleasure in the different varieties. When I am on my own. I don't need to share and appreciate others not sharing.

scarednoob · 10/04/2016 20:33

In the right circumstances, hilarious. Otherwise no, keep them to yourself.

DP hates them with a passion, so I do it occasionally if he has annoyed me. Similarly if he farts in his sleep, I have to wake him up (he always knows already). The fart isn't funny, but his reaction is.

DD is 7 months and can fart like a 17 stone trucker after a night on the guinness and baked beans for breakfast. I never knew before that the size of the bum is in no way proportionate to the size of the fart.

Oysterbabe · 10/04/2016 20:41

I never thought they were funny until my tiny, beautiful, newborn girl started farting like a trucker. I can't not laugh.

ColinFirthsGirth · 10/04/2016 20:45

Yes facts are funny! But my husband doesn't think think they are either so I have to laugh about them with my 14 year old son instead.

dudsville · 10/04/2016 20:54

We don't giggle at it, but don't disapprove either. I call mine "the duck", and I may warn oh if the duck seems angry or seems to have an attitude.

HooseRice · 10/04/2016 21:52

DH and I go to lots and lots of comedy gigs. We judge comedians who resort to fart jokes. They do get guaranteed laughs and often save a set. Any comedian worth their salt does not tell fart jokes.

ClopySow · 10/04/2016 22:22

plenty

Good noise descriptions. You forgot quacks. My arse can quack.

BlondieLoxie · 11/04/2016 11:02

Some of you ladies are gonna end up single with that attitude. Gross! Sorry, but it's not ladylike or dignified doing that in front of anyone. Including partners!

MadameDePompom · 11/04/2016 11:09

And some 'ladies' will end up single if they don't lighten up. I don't find common or garden fart particularly mirthsome but likewise I don't know why some people come over all Victorian aunt at the mere mention of a fart.

BlondieLoxie · 11/04/2016 11:12

Purposely doing in front of someone? That's vulgar and nothing to do with being prim and proper

MadameDePompom · 11/04/2016 11:16

I don't fart on purpose in front of anyone but if one pops out I'm not going to run shrieking from the run in a dark shame. People fart. I've heard tell that even gentlemen callers have been known to fart on occasion. Imagine that!

BlondieLoxie · 11/04/2016 11:32

I'm talking about people doing it for amusement. There's a difference

MadameDePompom · 11/04/2016 11:34

I'd imagine that a lot of fart joke fans are coupled up with fellow fart joke fans.

MadameDePompom · 11/04/2016 11:35

I'd never be attracted to a 'pull my finger' type japester but other people are.

oldjacksscrote · 11/04/2016 11:55

I hate my oh farting, I find it very unattractive and I don't do it I front of him. My 2yo does it And they seem to be funny coming from him, I encourage him to say pardon me as I know many people find it very rude. that being said, when I'm on my own I very much enjoy a good trump, it's like a guilty pleasure Blush
