To find farts funny!

My DP and I disagree about whether farts are funny! I find them funny and giggle about them along with the DCs, immature I know Grin DP doesn't find them even remotely funny and tells the kids off for doing it (and I can never keep a straight face and he gets cross at me for undermining him!).
Are farts funny in your house?

Normal bodily function - fine in private but height of bad manners in public
Really funny if you are 10 yo.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/04/2016 22:01

Farts have always been hilarious:

The world's oldest recorded joke has been traced back to 1900 BC and suggests that toilet humour was as popular with the ancients as it is today.

It is a saying of the Sumerians, who lived in what is now southern Iraq and goes: "Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart in her husband's lap." (Reuters)

ShowOfHands · 09/04/2016 22:07

We don't all "fart burp and belch" actually. Grin

I too find other people momentarily repulsive if they do it and self congratulate.

squoosh · 09/04/2016 22:10

That's brilliant Plenty!

People laughing at farts really is as old as time. As no doubt is people raising their eyebrows and saying 'I fail to see what's funny about expelling air from your anus'.

Smelly air 😷

Toria2014 · 09/04/2016 22:27

Farts are hilarious.

YourLeftElbow · 09/04/2016 22:37

A nun once farted at school.

I am shaking with laughter...

MintyChapstick · 09/04/2016 22:39

No, they are hilarious. I grew up in a family of farters, and we all trumped freely in front of each other. If you can't relax and let off in you're in home then there's something wrong IMO.

Obviously I don't go round farting in front of strangers or people I barely know, but if one slipped out I'm not going to beat myself up over it.

I once went on holiday with my mum and Auntie. Me and DM happily let rip in front of each other, but obviously we didn't do in front of each other. Then one day we were sitting on the balcony and Auntie suddenly said, "can I just apologise in advance' before doing the loudest, longest fart ive ever heard in my life. I nearly wet myself laughing, it was so funny.

At a fitness class I used to attend, the instructor suddenly ran out of the class and told us to carry on as she'd be back in a minute. We thought nothing of it, until she told us at a social a few days later, after a few drinks, that she'd left the room because she needed to fart and couldn't hold it in any longer. Apparently it was a corker!

My DS is having his sleepover for his 14th Birthday right now. Every window in the house is open & I've got my plug-in fresheners on max.
Definitely NOT funny! (Smell my pain!) Sad

CakeNinja · 09/04/2016 23:10

My dsis calls farts "food ghosts" Shock

TeatimeForTheSoul · 09/04/2016 23:20

CakeNinja loving 'food ghosts' !!!!! Grin

TeatimeForTheSoul · 09/04/2016 23:24

Farting in public , not good. But farting at home has to be giggled at.

Was brought up by a very proper Mum who insisted everyone go to the bathroom to fart. But wherever she went in the house we could here her's, like she had a megaphone attached to her bum. Truly impressive and we could laugh without her seeing Smile

bloodyteenagers · 09/04/2016 23:57

So what do people think about fanny farts?

pieceofpurplesky · 10/04/2016 00:12

Farts are hilarious at home but not in public.
Not in my classroom either. That mix of fart, lynx and BO is an acquired taste!

bloodyteenagers · 10/04/2016 00:17

Public places are really the best areas for the toxic silent ones. Peoples reactions. They can stink it, but too polite to react instead just look at others

MitzyLeFrouf · 10/04/2016 00:22

My farts are theatrically loud but ladylike in that they're rarely 'scented'. I don't expel my theatrical farts in polite society but delight in releasing them when walking along a street with lots of traffic noise.

donajimena · 10/04/2016 00:28

Why are they funny? I just don't get it... I think a mistimed fart can be very funny such as my mother picking up a heavy suitcase and one escaping... that filled me with mirth! But day to day? Why don't you all find sneezing or coughing hilarious?
Oh because a fart is from a bottom and therefore rude !! How naughty. Grow the feck up!!

MitzyLeFrouf · 10/04/2016 00:30

Maybe it's like coriander. Some of use are wired to love the flavour of coriander and some of us are wired to despise the flavour.

Fratelli · 10/04/2016 07:21

My DH did a really loud fart in the cinema when we went to see Schindler's List a few years ago - it was hilarious imo that's just disrespectful tbh. How anyone could laugh at anything whilst watching that is beyond me.
I don't find them funny anyway tbh. Rude to do it in public also. Even after having a baby in front of dp I would be mortified if I did one in front of him!

clearsommespace · 10/04/2016 07:32

Even if you don't find farts funny, it seems a bit extreme to scold a child for doing one. Fair enough to teach them to say 'excuse me'.
Prickly, what does your DP expect the DC to do?

CockacidalManiac · 10/04/2016 11:02

In defence of the Schindler's List fart, I imagine it might have caused laughter because it released a lot of tension caused by watching the film.

PricklyHodgeheg · 10/04/2016 14:37

Wow I didn't expect such a big response! I find farts funniest when it's inappropriate and when they are unexpected. Noisy ones are funniest Grin I agree that sometimes it's gross (sometimes FIL let's a really smelly one go Shock), and also that kids should learn to excuse themselves in certain situations, but on the whole, they are hilarious!

newyear no, this is my first fart related thread but I expect others have posted similar in the past.

mishaps the book sounds fabulous, I must get a copy (before the prudish relatives come to visit Grin)

ginge I would have laughed too Blush did everyone in the cinema laugh too?

No they arnt funny . If you make them funny your encouraging your child to do it in front of people and in public. Imagine they just farted away at school?

It's not funny. And so immature to think so.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 10/04/2016 17:23

'can I just apologise in advance' 😂😂😂 that really tickled me!

BeautifulLiar · 10/04/2016 17:29

But what about the smell?! That's not funny! Eww
