It encourages the worst sort of nasty, libellous speculation, creepy fan obsessing and vicious gossip mongering.

It is inhabited by the type of posters who would feel very comfortable on the Sidebar of Shame.

It is not in the spirit of the mumsnet site - celebrities are parents too and it is in no way a happy and supportive place.

AIBU to think that it is surplus to the requirements of Mumsnet and shouldn't be there?

Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

And the Louis Tomlinson stuff is on the front page of the Daily Star and being tweeted about by a Guardian reporter now!

Empressa · 09/04/2016 13:08

One thread. Larry started in Chat.

The Daily Star?

Point proved.

OP posts:
Scarletohello · 09/04/2016 13:11

And The Guardian.

The Larry delusion makes me sad. Tweens and teens gossiping about a boyband is fine. Grown women with kids of their own, wildly speculating about the existence of a child and whether it's a doll, staying up all night, scouring the Internet looking for evidence, living on USA time and generally acting as if nothing else matters - that is disconcerting.

Intervention is what is needed and compassion too.

lorelei9here · 09/04/2016 13:34

Well this is an eye opener
I wonder if this prompted the talk I heard en route home yesterday
Two women saying "isn't it shocking that adults are so mad" and then one said "well these are the sorts of people who send baby clothes to the actor when her character is pregnant."
It stuck in my mind as it seemed so odd, maybe they were talking about this Larry thing.
When I went to see Hamlet, we heard someone in the bar saying about crazed fans thinking his wife and baby were fake in some way but I wasn't paying attention.
What are these people on?

jeremyisahunt · 09/04/2016 13:40

OP, AIBU is far far worse than anything you'll ever read in the 'sleb' board!

Out of interest, can anyone PM me the new Larry Stylison thread? I think it's hidden again.

Empressa · 09/04/2016 13:45

Jeremy I think they have all been deleted.

I have to say I read a Larry thread and was just Shock

The amount of research and the examination of photos and videos. The plausible explanations for utterly implausible things. Looking for hidden messages in EVERYTHING!

They truly believe the story is going to break any minute. I've never read something so utterly, weirdly fascinating! I almost believed it by the end. Wink

AvaLeStrange · 09/04/2016 13:48

Oh do get a grip OP. I stumbled across a thread about one of my favourite actors on ST 5.5 years ago.

I got chatting to half a dozen mumsnetters who I later met up with in RL and am still good friends with now. Even some of our kids have met and got on.

We still like the same actor and have been to see him on stage together a couple of times, but as grown women we manage to appreciate his talents without stalking or behaving inappropriately ShockHmm

Fyaral · 09/04/2016 13:52

Meh. Different strokes and all that. I generally give it a swerve as its mostly v v dull. I do like the threads about the Great Orange One though. Have there been any orange klaxon threads recently?

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2016 13:54

The 1D stuff is now in the papers so the whole world can see the bonkers. Grin

ssd · 09/04/2016 13:57

Eww I am not clicking any of those links.

ShesAGreatGas · 09/04/2016 14:12

It can get nasty on Sleb Twaddle. But it can get nasty anywhere.

The key is to report posts you think break the Talk Guidelines, surely? Not ban people from discussing celebrities!

Whatever next? Down with Style & Beauty! Out with AIBU?

Get a grip, OP.

BillSykesDog · 09/04/2016 14:19

Well I reported the Simon Cowell thread so let's see if that goes anytime soon...

Bless you. I can just see you in the 1950s getting worked up about the awful rumours about that poor Rock Hudson and his lovely wife...

ThirtyNineWeeks · 09/04/2016 14:25

You sound a hoot, OP. Who appointed you Head Girl?

Empressa · 09/04/2016 14:26

I'm not a prude. I like a good sweary thread as much as anyone.

I just think when it's personal, there's the limit.

Empressa · 09/04/2016 14:26

Calling someone's wife a beard is just vile.

Soooo glad this thread has attracted certain posters back. Hmm

The mother of the child has spoken out saying she feels it's "cruel and morally wrong" to insist her baby is fake. So we can leave it now, yeah?
