to want the sleb twaddle board GONE?

It encourages the worst sort of nasty, libellous speculation, creepy fan obsessing and vicious gossip mongering.

It is inhabited by the type of posters who would feel very comfortable on the Sidebar of Shame.

It is not in the spirit of the mumsnet site - celebrities are parents too and it is in no way a happy and supportive place.

AIBU to think that it is surplus to the requirements of Mumsnet and shouldn't be there?

Ooh thanks OP, I had no idea there was such a board!! I LOVE slab twaddle! Big fan of TOWIE, Kardashians, Made in Chelsea etc. I'm also studying for a Masters. Aren't people weird??

molyholy · 09/04/2016 09:18

Don't read it then. I didn't even know there was such a board, so very easily avoided. You have gone out of your way to be offended. I don't understand how you are judgung others when quite frankly, you sound like an arse.

Guitargirl · 09/04/2016 09:25

There are lots of things on the Internet that I don't like. So, I avoid those things. There are certain newspapers which I can't stand and I would never buy in real life. So, I don't go to their websites or click on links which take me there. Any board is easily avoided, you just hide it and don't click on it in active convos. Why are you even opening threads about Simon Cowell if you don't like the section? It's as though you are looking for things to be offended about.

iloveeverykindofcat · 09/04/2016 09:27

What is Larry stuff? misses point

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 09/04/2016 09:28

Leave the SoS alone , I love it Wink

BennyTheBall · 09/04/2016 09:28

Meh, just don't look at the threads. I wouldn't be so sanctimonious as to never have an opinion over a celeb just because they're parents. What if they wear something ghastly? Grin

Although I did look at one of those Larry threads out of curiosity & backed out sharpish - that was just weird

ExpandingRoundTheMiddle · 09/04/2016 09:29

Another vote for keeping it so it doesn't ooze out onto other boards.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 09/04/2016 09:29

Don't mention Larry it'll bring 'em back.

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2016 09:29

Speculation about the sexuality of 1D members ilove.

QuiteLikely5 · 09/04/2016 09:33

Don't people gossip all the time though? Here and RL?

Op don't take the world on you have came here to vent pure and simple!

Why even do that??!!

Can't you speak to your dp or your RL friends about it? Or email Rupert Murdoch .........

OrangesandLemonsNow · 09/04/2016 09:35

I think the Sleb board has become more popular over the last few days because of the numerous Larry threads that have thankfully now been deleted.

Yeahsure · 09/04/2016 09:42

Well I've just spend half an hour on ST and never been there before! It's generally good natured naughtiness. But let's all be honest celebs need people to talk about them, they need the gossip, the magazine covers, social media rumours and natterings or they become irrelevant.

iloveeverykindofcat · 09/04/2016 09:44

Gotcha. Am aware of said rumours, didn't realize they had a name.

SmellyFartado · 09/04/2016 09:46

If you don't like it, don't read it.

There's threads on here not in ST that have actually named the stars with the current super injunctions. That makes me nervous for those posters but then you either don't read it in the first place or you report it.

BatmanLovesMarmite · 09/04/2016 09:51

Hide it - it'll disappear from Active.

And then get over yourself.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 09/04/2016 09:51

Gossip and lighthearted speculation are completely different from the stuff being posted recently which got deleted. If you don't like the board in general just hide it. But some of the more extreme threads shouldn't be used as reason for getting rid of an entire topic, soooo yabu.

OTheHugeManatee · 09/04/2016 10:35

I picture a purse-lipped, beady-eyed, boot-faced and scowling OP ever on the lookout for things they can judge and disapprove of.

Some people just aren't satisfied with ignoring stuff they don't like - they have to start trying to ban it for everyone.

I don't even read the sleb twaddle and I think YABU.

Roseanddagger · 09/04/2016 10:43

You know, if people didn't talk about celebrities they'd just be normal run of the mill people.

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2016 10:45

Yes a bit of a chat about slebs is hardly unexpected. As long as it doesn't tip over into strange territory like the last few days.

paxillin · 09/04/2016 10:46

But surely if it was gone all these threads would be in chat? Better leave it as it is. I am already better informed about the contents of the Daily Wail than before discovering MN. YABU.

MissTurnstiles · 09/04/2016 11:01

Similar threads disappear quickly on Chat because there's more traffic and they get reported more quickly.

You have two options, OP.

Either hide the topic and ignore it.

Or appoint yourself as the Sleb Twaddle police and take it upon yourself to report every thread that you dislike.

jeremyisahunt · 09/04/2016 11:15

Most celebs want to be talked about. It pays their bills.

Do you want KimK to be skint?

ALemonyPea · 09/04/2016 11:24

What would you like to see in MN that is befitting to the site?

101 ways to knit with lentils
Feeding a family of 10 on one chicken a week
Boden inspired wedding dresses
Reasons to call 101

If you don't like the topic, hide it.

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 09/04/2016 11:25

Reasons to call 101 Grin Grin Now that would be one busy topic!! Grin

lorelei9here · 09/04/2016 11:30

OP hadn't heard of it
However you can do more constructive things, join Hacked Off, lobby your MP about privacy laws etc.
