to want the sleb twaddle board GONE?

It encourages the worst sort of nasty, libellous speculation, creepy fan obsessing and vicious gossip mongering.

It is inhabited by the type of posters who would feel very comfortable on the Sidebar of Shame.

It is not in the spirit of the mumsnet site - celebrities are parents too and it is in no way a happy and supportive place.

AIBU to think that it is surplus to the requirements of Mumsnet and shouldn't be there?

The Larry one is driving me mad

It's so disrespectful and immature.

I'm a massive 1d fan. So that's not why I'm saying it's immature.

ShowOfHands · 09/04/2016 11:34

OP, I understand. I don't like the guise of harmless fun when in fact the ripping apart of people's lives, sneering over people's weight, life choices, casting aspersions and grubby pawing over people's misfortune is nothing short of awful.

It's the world today though. Magazines and television, schools and the workplace, people are gossiping about other people or making sweeping judgements about people's clothes and bodies whilst worshipping at the altar of the Kardashians.

You just have to hide it. It can be a fun, lighthearted topic and I don't mean to generalise as much as it might sound but it's just indicative of a general malaise.

AIBU is far worse. It's atrocious.

Imagine a friend or colleague came to you having made a mistake. You know as a fallible human being. Would you bark ffs grow up at them, rip them apart, insult them? No. I suspect not. It's okay online though. AIBU will be first against the wall when the time comes.

CalonGoch · 09/04/2016 11:34

Blimey. Just had a quick read of the Simon Cowell thread and there's allegations on there that would make a Chat thread evaporate within nanoseconds! Haven't similar 'who's the worst celeb you've ever met' threads been spiked because one poster said Cilla Black could be a bit tetchy on Concorde? Do MN even look at that board? Or are the celebs in question less litigious?

MrsS1990 · 09/04/2016 11:35

I wonder how they would feel having their ever move with their family and friends scrutinised

Beautifultolookat · 09/04/2016 11:39

The bunfight over the last couple of threads were NOT cool ladies. Some longstanding posters bullying people on an obscure thread discussing a lame conspiracy theory. Long standing posters trying to pick fights. It was vile behaviour. Its interessting to see all the same posters back on here itching for another fight. How old are you all? Shakes head and hides thread.

PortiaCastis · 09/04/2016 11:42

The topic has been used and liked by lots of posters over many years.
The lunacy of the harry larry dolly baby threads have ridiculed the topic.
Many posters have ds the same age as the boys in question and it has to be remembered although the boys are famous they also have parents who may or may not be reading the rantings.
Still not a reason to take the topic down.

paxillin · 09/04/2016 11:42

I never go on sleb twaddle, looks like I missed a lot of action. Sounds a bit like the dark side of AIBU. off to sleb twaddle to check

lorelei9here · 09/04/2016 11:44

So other posters are bothered too...seriously, have a look at Hacked Off, think over the state of our privacy laws. None of this will change unless there's vocal support for change.

ghostyslovesheep · 09/04/2016 11:47

no - it keeps that dull shite away from the rest of MN!

BoatyMcBoat · 09/04/2016 11:49

I'm not v interested n slebs, and I mainly don't recognise the names. Sometimes I see something on Active which piques my curiosity and I click on it. My problem if I don't like it. Usually, I have to ask who the person is, if I say anything at all.

MN is meant to be informative, supportive and/or entertaining, but the people who use it are the ones who determine it's evolution. It is informative, supportive and entertaining, it is also petty, mean, salacious and angry as well as a whole host of other things positive and negative. That's because of us, all of us MNers.

Don't click indiscriminately, Empress. It's your finger, you have the power.

Empressa · 09/04/2016 11:49

I picture a purse-lipped, beady-eyed, boot-faced and scowling OP ever on the lookout for things they can judge and disapprove of.

pmsl... Okayyyyy Hmm

If the nastier threads are deleted, then ok, fair enough. But I reported the SC one hours ago and evidently it's still there. Yes, we can just ignore what we don't like, but why can't we stand up and say, a lot of it is nasty, a lot of it is not on and a lot of it is unedifying to say the least?

There are plenty of nasty gossip sites on the Internet, I just didn't think MN was one of them.

Calling me unpleasant for wanting unpleasantness off MN is just ridiculous and immature.

Although I take the point that confining it at least stops it spreading all over Chat and AIBU.

Stratter5 · 09/04/2016 11:49

Larry? Pleeeease someone tell me.

SoupDragon · 09/04/2016 11:51

It's a Brangelina type mash up of 2 1D members presumed to be a secret couple.

The conspiracy theories around Louis's baby are hilarious.

Empressa · 09/04/2016 11:52

Larry is a particularly weird conspiracy theory obsessed over by oddballs, who for some strange reason think that Harry Styles and Louis Someone have been having a long standing affair.

The existence of offspring of Louis Someone are alleged to be plastic dolls. There is no limit to the stuff they can explain away, and no limit to the bizarre explanations they can come up with to "explain" perfectly ordinary things.

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 09/04/2016 11:53

Not just you Stratter5 - I'm totally lost with it too!

Empressa · 09/04/2016 11:53

I can't believe I even know that. I can't even name one 1D song.

Damn you Sleb Twaddle!

OP posts:
PunkrockerGirl · 09/04/2016 11:57

Thing is, OP, just because you report something it doesn't automatically mean it'll get deleted. Mnhq get to make that call, not the person who's reported.

Anyway, hide the topic if you don't approve of it. Job done.

SoupDragon · 09/04/2016 11:59

LOLOL.

Empressa · 09/04/2016 12:00

I'm amazed that people think it's ok to rip others apart on the Internet, no matter who that person is.

How depressing.

OP posts:
TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 09/04/2016 12:22

It always amazes me that you can post certain things on here and others you cant.

Say VB is too thin- deleted. Say Katie P is not a good mother - left to stand

Say a celebs baby name is horrific- deleted as not in the spirit of the site. Question a babies paternity, their fathers sexuality, no bother, we mght make it discussion of the day.

Like I say, it amazes me.

CandyFlossBrain · 09/04/2016 12:30

It does feel strange that you can come to Mumsnet now and click on a thread where people are gleefully talking about celeb men being forced to raise fake babies. They can't all be 12 years old...

I have come across an almost identical thread about Bnedict Cumberbatch before (they've moved on to saying he's being forced to raise an 'adopted baby' now that his child walks and talks, I guess people are gearing up for that with LT too - which begs the rather unpleasant question, what's wrong with raising an adopted child?) but it was on a proper whackjob forum. It's a bit gross that it's infiltrated what is primarily a parenting forum.

TheoriginalLEM · 09/04/2016 12:42

I can't be doing with sleb gossip i think it is demeaning and shallow - so guess what, i don't look at the board! I couldn't be less interested but if it keeps that bullshit out of chat then we clearly need it.

Alternatively have it as a one way portal to netmums?

Empressa · 09/04/2016 12:55

Alternatively have it as a one way portal to netmums

Excellent idea!

Candyfloss well said.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2016 13:04

Why Netmums?

memyselfandaye · 09/04/2016 13:05

Why are you reading so many of the threads in there OP?

You have reported one thread and seem to know all about another one, so why are you going there at all if you hate it so much?

Are you a bit of a curtain twitcher in real life too?
