Gogglebox Scarlett's swearing

DextersMistress · 08/04/2016 21:50

Now I'm a sweary fucker, but I find watching her swearing sooo much to her parents quite uncomfortable to watch.

The odd word is one thing but her stream of fuckings seems disrespectful to me. Might just be because I don't swear in front of my mum, despite her language being akin to Gordon Ramsey stubbing his toe Grin

I don't mind Scarlett, I didn't like her at first but she's grown on me a bit. The swearing doesn't bother me.

And I wouldn't say she was 'very overweight' either. She seems to be within the normal range to me. Not that her weight is even relevantHmm

My least favourite people are the two northern girls, they very rarely have anything interesting to say and their conversation seems forced. No idea how they got their place on the show.

Tenementfunster · 09/04/2016 00:13

How does Scarlett come across as dim? She's witty and confident and has a quick mind.

imwithspud · 09/04/2016 00:30

I think a lot of people judge her based on her appearance and make assumptions about her intellect as a result. Could be wrong though.

Behooven · 09/04/2016 00:34

We do not swear in front of each other, just not the done thing .
My mum would've clutched her pearls at the very thought of it.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 09/04/2016 00:38

find it a bit cringey that Scarlett's parents seem so in awe of her but I think she's quite witty and observant. and in her own way, quite respectful to them.

Swearing at someone and swearing in front of them is very different.

I've always sworn like a trooper but not in front of the kids when they were little.

It's a gradual thing to relax those rules.

Now they are 24,27 and 29 none of us pepper our conversation with swearing but if any of us get a bit heated or need a rant it's no holds barred!

OrangesandLemonsNow · 09/04/2016 00:44

Very overweight, not well educated, oompaloompa fake tan, and foul mouth.

Well aren't you delightful Hmm

shrunkenhead · 09/04/2016 00:50

I hate it when she swears in front of her parents as this is something I was never brought up to do. However they don't seem bothered.
I'd consider it disrespectful and inappropriate. Just as you don't swear in front of people you don't know very well as you need to gauge their boundaries etc

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 09/04/2016 00:51

Agree Oranges, shallow, ignorant comments.

shrunkenhead · 09/04/2016 00:57

I think it's quite often assumed that if you have a potty mouth you're a little dim....wrongly or rightly...You can be funny/witty without expletives.
The claim that she has fake tan issues and is overweight may well be true but then this is the case for many people in their 20s.

ChrissieLatham · 09/04/2016 03:47

I always think she never looks like she's sitting comfortably, she's always sitting on the edge of her seat, doesn't look natural.

Justmeagain78 · 09/04/2016 08:57

I like Scarlett she makes me laugh!! Totally unrelated but I've been watching Stacey Solomon on The Wright Stuff this week and she really spoilt it for me. Her "ooo I'm so ditsy, me!" act got so wearing and she dominated every discussion and had everyone fawning over her despite not having anything remotely interesting to say.

Justmeagain78 · 09/04/2016 08:58

.... at least Scarlett is bright, interesting and genuine.

VulcanWoman · 09/04/2016 09:25

I always wondered why she sits forward on the chair but think I noticed the other day their dog is behind her?? She reminds me of the people from The Grinch film.

RudeElf · 09/04/2016 09:55

I think its time gogglebox had an NI family on. I would volunteer but i'm single and DCs are too young so it would just be me swearing and the dog looking indifferent Grin

MrsJayy · 09/04/2016 10:01

Id watch you and the dog watching the telly Grin they need a Scottish family on too

SlinkyVagabond · 09/04/2016 10:11

I saw Scarlett in our local supermarket the other week. Everyone was looking Confused like they couldn't place her. I wondered where the dog went!
Love German dad! When they had the puppy and he was babying it. And Big Gruff Dad with the teenage sons-he's such a softie with those dogs.

RudeElf · 09/04/2016 10:13

Yes a scottish family and an NI family and we are all represented. Did i see a new family in the last episode? Not sure where they are from.

RudeElf · 09/04/2016 10:15

I would love to meet scarlett.

I think that scarlett and the doggy family should have an amalgamation night. They'd get on brilliantly. And the siddiquis could join too.

Hopelass · 09/04/2016 10:21

I have to agree with op. We were watching last weeks last night (we record them and catch up a week later) and I commented on her swearing; it was every other word. I'm not against swearing per se , or Scarlett, but is there any need for every second or third word to be "fucking" or "shit"? I told DP I wouldn't like him doing it never mind DS!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 09/04/2016 14:30

The new family is Scottish isn't it?
Can't remember their name but Mum, Dad and son looks about 15/16 have been on a bout 3 weeks I think.

BennyTheBall · 09/04/2016 14:34

I like Scarlett and think she's as bright as a button.

I find it slightly strange to even notice her swearing in front of her parents - she's an adult, somewhere in her 20s - to me it would be more strange if she tempered her language. People can be so precious about swearing.

VenusInFauxFurs · 09/04/2016 14:40

I don't swear in front of my parents even now I'm in my 40s. 19 year old dd and I regularly swear in front of one another though. Usually for comic effect (which is obvs the best reason to swear). If dd and I were goggleboxers I reckon we'd be pretty sweary.

HappenstanceMarmite · 09/04/2016 14:45

So jealous of the pp who works with German Dad 😂

kerstina · 09/04/2016 15:08

Scarlet has a lot of empathy.
I love the way all the families have dogs !

NorbertDentressangle · 09/04/2016 15:24

She is very quick and very sharp.

The line I laughed at loads (but I can't remember what/who she was describing) was "shakin' like a shittin' dog"
