Is former Labour Minister and SDP politician, Lord David Owen right to think that TTIP will be detrimental to the NHS?

Don't you have to have a job to pay taxes? I thought you were still a student.

butteredmuffin · 17/04/2016 18:41

Both, HelpfulChap. I'm a higher rate taxpayer and have spent nearly £13,000 out of my post tax income doing this part-time masters degree over the last two years.

HelpfulChap · 17/04/2016 18:43

Buttered, ever since you embarrassed yourself about Groucho Marx I can't take you seriously.

HelpfulChap · 17/04/2016 18:44

Butter.

I respect you for that. Genuinely.

butteredmuffin · 17/04/2016 18:46

I still don't understand why you think an American comedy actor who died in the 1970s is relevant to this discussion about the EU, or why you're trying to wind me up by bringing it up every five minutes. If you're not careful, people might think you have nothing of any value to contribute to the actual discussion.

StepintotheLightleave · 17/04/2016 18:47

John Major's position on the EU is clearly based on a sound understanding of how the EU work

Many people work in the EU and know how it works and plenty have also said its corrupt, lets get out.

lurked101 · 17/04/2016 18:49

Ah but then it tends to be people who are pro brexit who say that, any others who work within it say the opposite. Senior civil servants I know who have been to the commission say the reasons the process is slow is because the negoitations are so balanced and thorough.

But then anecdote isn't a good argument, sorry.

butteredmuffin · 17/04/2016 18:51

Ok, so if Farage understands how the EU works and actually has a genuine plan for how we will negotiate our new position in the world post-Brexit, why isn't he telling us about it instead of producing a lot of hot air? I want to know how he actually thinks we will achieve this. I want him to acknowledge the situation we are in based on our relationship with the EU and the rest of the world as it currently is, and put forward a credible, worked-out, fully-costed plan for how he envisaged we will transition to a new situation.

StepintotheLightleave · 17/04/2016 18:51

Do I trust someone who works for the EU, and gets paid for it, to say - its corrupt or someone who wants to keep their bread buttered.

I would more likely trust the person who is putting their neck on the line....speaks out, bravely and is a whistler blower.

HelpfulChap · 17/04/2016 18:51

Butter. I respect you for trying to better yourself. I truly do.

But your continued misunderstanding of my joke never fails to amuse me.

Knowing that you still don't get it gives me no end of amusement.

StepintotheLightleave · 17/04/2016 18:53

Don't ask me about Farage, I am not following what he says, I am following and reading other stuff.

ColinFirthsGirth · 17/04/2016 18:55

Yes he is right I think. TTIP will be dreadful for many reasons.

butteredmuffin · 17/04/2016 18:55

Helpful, I got the "joke". It just wasn't very clever or funny.

You said that Groucho Marx said, "speaking on the EU", that he didn't want to be part of any club which would have him as a member. It's s very well-known quote which has pretty much been done to death.

I merely pointed out, in the interests of accuracy, that he wasn't actually talking about the EU when he said it.

Total non-story. The fact that you won't let it drop isn't really doing you any favours.

HelpfulChap · 17/04/2016 18:55

Same Step into

I don't have UKIP on my twitter. I have the Left wing feeds like Green Leaves.

StepintotheLightleave · 17/04/2016 18:55

fully-costed plan for how he envisaged we will transition to a new situation

I would like the same on many issues with the EU not least of all the migrant crisis, the borders crisis, the forged identity papers crisis and the ISIS crisis.

lurked101 · 17/04/2016 18:56

But doesn't the bread buttered work both ways? Someone saying its corrupt, yet says their mandate is to stay there to try to stop it like Daniel Hannan or Farage has to say that to keep his vote?

HelpfulChap · 17/04/2016 18:57

Buttered stop it please. I have just done my make up and the last thing I need is for my mascara to start running.

butteredmuffin · 17/04/2016 18:58

In your position I would be more worried about my IQ than my makeup.

StepintotheLightleave · 17/04/2016 18:59

I am not against Farage - BTW I saw his attack on some EU leader the who are you - speech..

But I am not a fan, I am not following him.

No one on either side has particularly caught my attention. I am no fan of Cameron or Boris. And I agree about Corbyns shameful turn about.

lurked101 · 17/04/2016 19:01

Mind you the Marx thing goes back to a point I made about many of Marx theories being actually true. I did ask if you had read it when you accused people of being Marxists, then you made your quip about Groucho.

Have you read Marx?

butteredmuffin · 17/04/2016 19:05

Also worth noting that "Marxism" refers to the works of the 19th century philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. As far as I'm aware, there is no actual connection between Karl Marx and the 20th century American actor, Groucho Marx.

HelpfulChap · 17/04/2016 19:22

Buttered

And you are questioning my IQ? Ha ha

Lurked

When did I accuse people of being Marxists? I don't remember that, I must have Still been laughing at Buttered.

butteredmuffin · 17/04/2016 19:34

Yes, well I'm glad you find all this so hilarious. Personally I'm rather worried about the fact that such an important decision is going to be made by people like you.

StepintotheLightleave · 17/04/2016 19:41

well ditto Grin

HelpfulChap · 17/04/2016 19:41

I know. People like me shouldn't have the vote. You have stated that oponion before.
