I read tarot cards. No fraud, I just tell people what the cards mean and I don't charge.
So do KingJoffrey and I don't have a psychic bone in my body! I have been studying Tarot for over 20 years and could go on Mastermind answering questions about it. My interest initially was in the artwork itself (I'm an artist by profession), the history ... and later on, how it got hijacked (for want of a better word) by the occult.
However, since then I have become interested in the 'meaning' of each card, and I have done a lot of study and research into that aspect of it, to the point where I 'read' for myself (and even have a twitter account where I do a 'card of the day' and other nonsense) and occasionally for friends - all for free. My ambition is to design my own tarot deck but whether or not that actually comes to fruition is another matter. Maybe a project for retirement.
At one point I did think about charging - so I did a bit of research and went and had 20 tarot readings from various individuals and can say, without hesitation that all were fakes, charlatans or completely deluded. Some knew exactly what they were doing (making it up as they went along and ripping people off) some I think were less ruthless and actually 'believed' that they had some kind of gift, but it was apparent to me that they hadn't done a fraction of the research I have done into the Tarot and were just using the cards as a prop to spout bullshit.
Like you I just 'read' what's on the table. I don't bring anything 'psychic' to the proceedings and if it's bollocks, it's bollocks, but it's also interesting and occasionally insightful and I personally find it quite helpful even though I am a huge sceptic about all things woo. I think it's more about just sitting and thinking for a while and meditating on something. A bit of stillness, focus and a time to think .. with a tarot card, a glass of wine, a flickering candle, a favourite song ... it doesn't matter really.
But one thing I do know about the Tarot is that it cannot predict the future. Nothing can. A tarot reading (if there is anything in it) perhaps may offer an overview of a situation and possible courses of action and potential outcomes but it cannot predict that someone will get married to a tall, dark handsome stranger in October, and have six children and so on.
