AIBU?

To be upset by the remarks of a psychic?

EverySongbirdSays · 05/04/2016 18:58

Obviously I do know that most psychics are charlatans and this one certainly was. Nothing he told me was spontaneous and was all based off my answers to his questions. He said some pretty harsh things though - AIBU to be upset by them even though I know it's absolute rot.

  1. It's too late for me and I won't have natural children. I'm 34.

  2. I go after guys that are out of my league (whatever that is)

  3. can we talk about my weight? Would I go out with a fat person?

  4. I'll probably never marry and should get a cat!

Somebody help me see the funny side here I'm a bit upset even though I shouldn't be.

    COST : £35

Was that post directed at me SmarterThan as you mention about haters gana hate but I never labelled myself as psychic. Never referred to myself as medium either as I'm fickle about labels other than Lone parent.

Is it just those who believe to have Clair senses-abilities that are deluded or does that include all things like colour therapy and meditation etc, both of which was just a few others things I learnt and used in the same manner during that chapter in my life or are they a different kind of deluded.

How does science stand these days regarding God, I'm out of touch with science and it might be a route One day I may choose to go down.

End of day we all have our own beliefs and I would never false mine on anyone they are something I've learnt along the way.

I'm all up for discussion and interested in others points of view it's how I learn so being called 'deluded or any other name calling' is pointless it teaches nothing.

I've always been against and told people never go to someone who charges, if I had my way I would never allow these fairs to so called celebrity readers but I'm just a little voice.

What really rips my knitting is that people who believe in this kind of bollocks always present themselves as 'open-minded' when in fact they are being incredibly closed minded, ignoring more credible alternatives that don't contradict the laws of science (cold/hot reading, cognitive bias) and leap on to the near impossibility that the person can see into the future or contact dead relatives for them to exchange pointless platitudes from 'the other side'.

Being open-minded doesn't mean believing everything and suspending your critical faculties. That's being so open minded that your brain falls out.

My best friend is hugely gullible towards all manner of woo. He definitely believes in psychic abilities. It doesn't matter how many times I have explained they're either cold reading or using mentalism, he just won't have any of it because psycics he's seen have told him things they couldn't possibly have known... One told him something he'd never told anyone else apparently so that's his definitive proof Hmm. He's also into tarot, crystals and their 'amazing healing abilities', karma, star and moon signs, God and all the rest. We're totally opposite like this, I've always been a cynical pessimist atheist that believes in science.

To me if anyone genuinely has psychic abilities they won't charge. I said this to him because he has a 'psychic' friend that charges £40 an hour. If she really is a psychic, why isn't she spreading around the information she has about people out of the kindness of her heart? He says it's a business, she still has to have money to live like anyone else... Hmm. Work a normal job, do that in your spare time FOR FREE.

They're all either deluded idiots or charlatans that usually prey on the vulnerable. They make me sick. I love Derren Brown for all of his work exposing them and their tricks.

Its not that haters gonna hate, more like thinkers gonna think. And do science and shit.
If you are utterly convinced you are psychic that just means the first victim of your con is yourself. You've deluded and tricked yourself into believeing in nonsense and then you move on to other people. It's sad really.

Yeah it is interesting that nineteenth century mediums were far more 'out there' than their 21st century equivalents. Flying tables, regurgitating ectoplasm, spirit photography etc. were debunked in the 1920s. These days the tricks they use are altogether tamer: vague predictions about the future and bland platitudes from dead relatives about 'how they miss you and say not worry, because they're looking over you.'

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 07/04/2016 20:35

Physics/mediums have been debunked over and over again since the 19th Century. People often cite knowing a medium who is the real deal because 'they know something that no other person could know'. They are magicians out there who could give you the same answers the mediums give except they don't pretend to talk to dead people and target the bereaved.

I did write a massive long post but deleted it because it was just really ranty but I knew someone (lets call her Sue) who regularly saw a medium and because the medium wasn't charging her she believed everything the fraud said. This medium for nearly 2 years had control of this Sue's life, she got her to ditch her friends because Sue's deceased child could see them bitching about her. She also told Sue that she had another deceased child because she had a miscarriage and didn't know about it, so Sue went ended up grieving for 2 deceased children and kept going back to this medium who just seemed to lavish in the power and attention that exploiting Sue's situation gave her. Sue ended up meeting a guy, moved away and realised that this medium was just an awful person.

For some of these frauds it's not all about money, it's about their ego. So OP don't believe in this dickhead or any other of the dickheads claiming to be psychic.

she is a con but i dont think all psychics are. My cousin went to a psychic who charged £100. She told my cousin who said she will never have children again that she will have a daughter and she will have light eyes. My cousin is black so its not like its likely she will have a child with light eyes.
Two years later she had a daughter who is black with blue/green eyes.

I regretted my post as soon as I hit the reply button, as it's not something I usually discuss even when I've been in company and topic has come up. It was something that I did only with like minded people, didn't mind questions but didn't feel I need to defend what was my belief at the time. I can probably make myself seem crazy without needing to add that to it. My DD thought it was all whoo hoo bollocks so we never discussed my unicorn powers beliefs. I could tell you how I picked Aunt Shirley and all information I get but haters going to hate. BTW I haven't got Aunt Shirley from beyond before anyone starts, as all I can think about is how I haven't got any fags, crap.

Backed away from all that spiritual stuff now as it got to much as I couldn't just switch off others emotions as you can't fix or magically make everything great again when someone has lost a loved one, just with a reading. They teach you how to switch off but I couldn't work like that and I came across so many desperate people begging for messages. The ones I found the most heartbreaking was those who had lost children and the way a reader would be applauded for their great information before moving onto the next, I couldn't leave the sitter like that at the end which I got told off for. I've witness some awful readers and when I have spoken up, it resulted me in being silenced and even banned from few places.

Still believe that their are some great readers out there, even though I have closed that chapter of my life and its like any thing though if someone believes they can make £ out of someone they feel can be taken advantage of they will, tarnishing the rest.

Am off to think of new name now as I'm bored of this one.

Is there a review site for psychics? If so, go there and warn women that they'll be paying £35 to hear the rantings of a woman hater.

My ex was sucked in by a 'psychic'. He insisted on flying to meet this guy (another seaside one) every month for a new reading. This one was clever enough to mix in promises of fame and fortune alongside the stuff that made him terrified. I warned him to cut the guy off, but he was convinced this was his best mate because he never even charged him for consultations. Then the guy phoned and said if he didn't get an instant bank transfer of thousands he wouldn't be able to stop something awful happening to my ex's child. So he did it!

Massively missing the point of the thread but not all rescue centres make life so difficult and there are far too many cats for the number of homes available. By buying a cat you are encouraging breeding and thus adding to the problem, by rescuing you a making a small contribution to solving it.

To find details of all the rescues in your area and many of the cats they have available go to //www.catchat.org

Oh and all psychics are indeed charlatans.

Baby rather than go refund - I'm just going to tell everyone who cares to hear he's a massive fraud and not to go. I don't want to go down that route.

Yes/No/Dont Know was what I expected, instead he was just asking me questions, and then trying to make out he had already known the answer via flashing playing cards at me.

I'm sorry you went to a fake psychic, a rude one at that. However, I disagree with the premis that a lot of posters on here are saying ; all psychics are frauds.

Sure there a fake psychics just like there are cons in all professions. Doesn't mean you should tar the whole profession with the same brush. Nothing wrong with being sceptical, you should be. But never be close-minded.

Personally, I only go to psychic mediums as well as psychics that don't use tools.
The standard rule of thumb is you don't feed a reader. Any genuine reader will ask you to wait until the end of the reading to ask questions, make comments.
At the most you says yes, no, don't know.

Another important thing to remeber with readings is nothing is set in stone. We do have free will, though some things are fixed. What a reader gives you is a probability that if you continue along the same road you are currently on, three months down the road. Then this is the likely outcome.

You must take personal responsibility. You still have choices and can act upon the information given, either discard or use it as a wake up if you don't like that outcome or go for it, if that's what you want.

If a reader says you are going to be an amazing pianist and you want to be but despite that potential you don't do anything about it. Guess what it won't happen. Like wise, you might change your current mindset and detour of the road the psychic is reading and your outcome will change.

Fake readers will fish for information. They will say you have a curse. They will be insensitive to you. They will tell you, someone is going to die. All that kind of dark crap.

Then there is the inexperience - not so good readers ( who believe they are better than they actually are) and they can be just as harmful.

I have natural psychic abilities. I also have mediumship abilities ( sorry not doing readings) so I know a 100% it is real. I have had some amazing proof off other readers. I have also had some crap readings and feel very angry at the time, they wasted my time with their nonsense.

I usually get three comparison readings, and so if A says I will do this B says no or doesn't mention it and C says the same as A, I will be more likely to believe A that it is a likely outcome.

And no I have never charged anyone for a reading because I haven't done it professionally.

It was beyond obvious what a fraud that reader was. You should be asking for a refund. And your personal responsibility as well as common sense should tell you that nothing he said was real.

Why are you upset? you ask... Because he hit a nerve. You are scared that he might be right. That's how these people get repeat custom.

Yep exactly that.

As to the "out of my league guys" - i wouldn't see any of them as being that. Sure some may have been quite good looking but it's NOT all about looks. Some really were not conventionally good looking or were when they were younger and aren't so much now. I don't operate based on looks, and the assumption that I have is insulting.

As well I forgot to mention this : He told me to "get out more" and when I mentioned I do get out but my hobbies that were largely female attendees but there is one man who happens to be married; he INSTANTLY assumed I was after this man, and told me not to be a homewrecker even though I wouldn't be interested if he was single.

Oh and not interested in me himself because gay.

I don't know why he thinks I have it in for overweight men either. A couple of my ex's have struggled with their weight, and they ended it not me.
