To wonder about Fireman Sam's love life

His much less hot brother (the fisherman) has a lovely wife and kids, but Sam is single and no hint of a relationship.

Is he gay and in a relationship with Tom Thomas?

Is he straight and a total player, but he keeps it all outside the village because he is a commitment phobe?

There is definitely no flirtation with Penny. Maybe she is married but doesn't live in the village so we never meet her husband.

And whatever happened to Bella Lasagne? She seems to have disappeared in this DVD DS is making me watch and no one ever mentions her.

I didn't know the fisherman was his brother!

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 01/04/2016 05:29

Yes, James and Sarah's dad. I think he might be only in this series too. Pontypandy seems to have changed into a fishing village by the sea!

(The only DVD we had before was the original series from about 1990 when all the character voices were done by one man)

Not sure, I saw an episode where Sam got offered a job at another station and he obviously didn't accept and I wondered why, what was keeping him in Pontypandy? As it should be on the list for "most dangerous place to live" in the UK.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 01/04/2016 05:59

Isn't there a theory about Norman being his son? It always seems to be Sam who sorts out Norman's naughtiness, I think he was once sent to Sam because he'd been so naughty his mother couldn't deal with him.

Or am I the only one who's thought that?

WellErrr · 01/04/2016 06:41

He's shagging Dilys and Norman is his son. They're the only gingers in Pontypandy. He's also very lenient with the little shit.

Think about it.

Sundaysmumisfullofwine · 01/04/2016 06:44

Bella Lasagne is back in the newest series.

LadybirdSpots · 01/04/2016 06:50

Yup I agree, definitely Normans Dad! Dilys always goes all weak at the knees when she sees him!
I suspect they had a one night stand and that Sam isn't the commitment type, far too busy saving everyone all day!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 01/04/2016 07:01

Agree that Sam is Norman's dad.

My DS says that Penny is married to Elvis. Not sure how he knows this. He's 3 so possibly not the most reliable source.

Horsemad · 01/04/2016 07:07

Grin this brings back memories! When DS1 (now nearly 19) was little, he used to be obsessed with Fireman Sam!

I used to have to listen all about FS and the 'others' all the time!

Dollymixtureyumyum · 01/04/2016 07:50

There is a little bit of flirtation with Penny in the new series. I recon he is one of those people who falls in love with objects and he has secretly married Jupiter

wannadancethenightaway · 01/04/2016 07:55

As Gay as the day is long and shagging Trevor

Fairylea · 01/04/2016 08:00

I did hear a rumour a few years back that they were going to make Fireman Sam the first gay CBeebies character. Not sure where I heard that or what happened etc but I definitely did!

Greengager · 01/04/2016 08:01

He's not the fisherman's brother is he? I know sarah and James call him 'uncle Sam' but until pretty recent times in that part of the world all neighbours and shopkeepers were 'uncle' this and 'aunty ' that.

So Norman's dad though.

HazyMazy · 01/04/2016 08:06

These series now annoy me as there are few major female characters.

SweetTeaVodka · 01/04/2016 08:07

I'm glad to find I'm not the only one who has wondered about this Grin

Never considered Norman being Sam's son, but it does explain how the little shit gets away with so much...

juneau · 01/04/2016 08:13

I assumed Bella Lasagne had been binned due to being an outrageous and offensive racial stereotype - but if she's back I guess not!

As for FS - I always thought that too OP - but I really can't see him shagging Dilys. He's far too much of a goody goody to be knocking off the older woman running the cut price supermarket (or maybe not?). Plus red hair comes from a recessive gene, so you don't need a red-headed parent to have a red-headed child Grin

SpanielLedWeaning · 01/04/2016 08:20

A little piece of my love for fireman Sam just died at the thought that he is Norman's dad.

Still a million times better than incompetent Postman Pat.

Marmaduke10 · 01/04/2016 08:22

And Dilys always seems to have the hots for old Trevor and Station Officer Steele...

SinkyMalinks · 01/04/2016 08:26

Dilys is totally boffing Trevor.

I've always assumed Sam is in the closet. I can not accept him fathering Norman. Too weird.

mrsm12 · 01/04/2016 08:30

Ds reckons elvis is normans dad, I use fireman Sam time to mumsnet so I've no idea!

That1950sMum · 01/04/2016 08:31

No, Dilys is definitely with Trevor. There's a very funny episode when they go into a shed together and a fire extinguisher goes off. All very suggestive. (Disclaimer - I may have dreamt this).

I have always carried a bit of a torch for Sam. Blush

minesapintofwine · 01/04/2016 09:18

I thought Norman was Sam's son and was causing trouble to get his dad's attention.

My other theory is Sam loves himself too much to put anyone else on his pedestal.

As an aside, the dc watched it this am and at the end Elvis ran away from the station. Guess what Sam said? 'Elvis has left the building'

Mousefinkle · 01/04/2016 09:20

Maybe he's asexual

NorfolkEnchance · 01/04/2016 09:36

He's definitely Charlie's brother. His surname is Peyton-Jones and Charlie refers to him as his brother too. I have a fireman Sam obsessed child!
I think he's terminally single because he is so fucking pompous!
