That au pair FINISHED my expensive Mother's Day chops?

I can stretch a box of chocolates out for months. Just went to have one and the fucking box was empty. Unlikely that DH are the, AS HE GAVE THEM TO ME. I put them on a shelf in the sideboard that neither child could reach.

WWYD?

Never said explicitly these are my special chocs don't touch but they are away from all other foods.

No, I mean how many were left in the box before she got to them? Did she eat a dozen chocolates, or two?

FoundNeverland · 30/03/2016 23:32

Sorry. Just assumed she was awful if you wanted to replace her. I'd also assume that immature and not bright isn't a reason to replace her but then I've never had an au pair. I've always used nurseries or official childcare and a cleaner so to be honest I have no idea what having an au pair is like and what reasons people would have for replacing them.

Not helpful I know. Good luck with the chocolate issue!

TalkMeDownPlease · 30/03/2016 23:33

Am preening Grin

ADishBestEatenCold · 30/03/2016 23:33

"I can stretch a box of chocolates out for months."

You ABU for this bit alone! Grin

Perhaps the easiest (and kindest) way to deal with this, is to actually specify which foods she can't have.

Simple enough to say "can you leave the things on the top shelf of the fridge, please" (or wherever).

Honesttodog · 30/03/2016 23:36

found she is not bright as in struggles to follow Lego instructions with 4 yo and today had to have my 7yo DD demonstrate how to puT together a Lorry consisting of TWO FUCKING PARTS. THE FRONT BIT AND THE BACK BIT.

Honesttodog · 30/03/2016 23:39

aDish am embarrassed to have to not only have to hide chocs away because ANA adult can't be trusted but have to say to said adult don't eat these they are mine. Just respect people's shit!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 30/03/2016 23:41

My baby sitter secretly ate the whole chocolate section of our Neapolitan ice cream. I feel your pain.

SleepyBoBo · 30/03/2016 23:45

I think MN needs a first world/middle class problems section. It can be all about bad nannies, p+c spaces and not quite knowing where to spend a load of money on a weekend break.

Seriously OP, although it's a bit mean to help oneself to chocolates, it's not the end of the world. I'd ask your husband about it, but really not worth shouting the house down over. Sounds like you don't like the woman very much and are quite judgmental of her. It certainly seems she won't be with you much longer, so what's the point of making an issue about it?

WhoaCadburys · 30/03/2016 23:49

It takes you months to eat a box of chocolates? Weird.

Personally I hide my chocolate - so on that count alone, YABU for not having done something similar.

Honesttodog · 30/03/2016 23:50

Hi sleepy

You know that bit in pretty woman when Julia Roberts shouts "WELL DONE!!" In a posh voice at the horse race?

Yeah. That.

angielou123 · 30/03/2016 23:50

I'd be fuming, what a bloody cheek. They were obviously yours (as in, they were not hers), and clearly expensive. I hope you get a replacement sorted soon (for the choc's and the au pair)!!

Honesttodog · 30/03/2016 23:51

Months because they are rich and I find one very occasionally is enough to make me happy.

OP posts:
JolieMadame · 30/03/2016 23:53

Leave the box on her bed with a note?

Something along the lines of "THANKS, BITCH"?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 31/03/2016 00:00

In the UK jury trials are done with a jury of your peers.

Just getting that out there

AdrenalineFudge · 31/03/2016 00:02

Are you always so wound up?

madwomanbackintheattic · 31/03/2016 00:04

I bet it was a kid.
Somewhere around two they work out out how to move chairs and use them to climb to reach sugar. And if they are really smart they learn to move the chair back. Apparently they NEVER throw out the empty box though

ADishBestEatenCold · 31/03/2016 00:04

Has your Au Pair taken food that is not for 'general consumption' before, Honesttodog?

Rainbunny · 31/03/2016 00:06

Decide if this is the hill you want to die on... In other words, is it worth getting angry at a good au pair over? I had a flatmate years ago who would routinely steal anything sweet - ice cream, chocolate biscuits etc... I didn't think the constant telling her off was worth it, especially since she couldn't seem to help herself. Besides, it helped me from pigging out so in a way I was okay with it.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 31/03/2016 00:11

Needs 😁

I wouldn't convict her, 2 down...

OP I have to know, what were they?

As for the AP, I can't be done with people that are that dim (Lego, Lory) or that clueless/thoughtless (chocolates) , she'd have to go. Another few weeks?! Bnot a hope in hell.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 31/03/2016 00:11

So she left you with a sodding EMPTY BOX???!!!
YANBU for that alone. AngryGrin

Ed1tY0urPr0f1le · 31/03/2016 00:16

I'd probably just leave it and make sure I hid anything similar in future. It was probably a case of 'just one' turning into the whole box.

I can understand you being frustrated about it though. I once felt obliged to share some posh chocs with DH and watched in horror as he hurled them down his gullet like they were bog standard cheapo ones! I have to hide anything I don't want him to have as, if I leave, say, a bowl of grapes on the table for everyone, they'll be gone by the time I come to have one as he just grabs a handful everytime he goes past without giving any thought to how many he's had. I'd be even more irritated by this if it was someone I wasn't related to who'd scoffed my nice stuff.

I had a flatmate who could Easter Egg in her cupboard and just nibble tiny bits off it for months - used to drive me crazy if I fancied something and knew it was there I may or may not have scoffed and replaced them on more than one occasion!

I also once troughed several bags of crisps from a multipack whilst babysitting when I was young and wonder what the family thought of that when they came to have some. I am sure the would have been fine with me having one bag but I was bored (out of my mind!) and worked my way through a few!

(I am not so lacking in self control these days - honest!)

AtSea1979 · 31/03/2016 00:20

Oh it's about chocolates Mother's Day chops would have been so much more interesting Grin

Honesttodog · 31/03/2016 00:20

Now theres an idea - A box of chops, for the special lady in your life. Not just on Mother's Day, oh no..I'm talking birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Hannukah (ok fair enough you'd have to take the pork chops out for that one, but lamb is still a go-er).

I prefer meat to chocolate actually so I'd be up for it Grin
