To spend £1000

I want a luxury spa and Michelin star restaurant for me and my DP. Live in the Midlands, so open to a lot of areas.

Looked at The Priory in Bath and The Grovesnor in Chester so far. I want utter decadence, but not sure whether these places will offer that. Upto £1000 for two nights.

Am I asking too much for the cost?

I've stayed at Grosvenor twice, I'm not telling you where is nice because I'm not sure I'd want you staying there tbh.

Jaimx86 · 28/03/2016 18:40

I'm hardly going to socialise with you if we end up at the same spot.
Easy for people to say they 'know somewhere' without actually knowing.

YANBU to spend £1000 on a couple of nights I a hotel.

YABU to have a crappy attitude, and ask advice about your intended stay on MN. There are other websites that can give you better insight into hotels.

We shave different taste, and one persons "decadence" is another's "you can fuck right off with that tat".

Bearbehind · 28/03/2016 18:56

Easy for people to say they 'know somewhere' without actually knowing.

Goady fucker alert.

So if you don't give the OP ideas then she's not happy but if you do make suggestions then presumably in her world, chances are, you're too poor to have actually stayed there yourself therefore you don't actually know anything at all anyway.

I wonder what colour the sky is on your planet OP? Hmm

ouryve · 28/03/2016 18:57

You're such a nice wee lass underneath it all, aren't you, jaim?

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 28/03/2016 18:59

No op i can't imagine mqny people wanting to socialise with you at any hotel if you are this objectionable in real life.

A word to the wise. If you display a fraction of the shitty attitude you've displayed on this thread at whichever restaurant you choose to encumber with your custom, you may well find your food laced with the bodily fluids of the kitchen staff.

Soddingepiphany · 28/03/2016 19:03

I don't think the "bitchiness of super poor women" is the issue, the fact that you are vulgar is and I believe the "super poor" and those with "money money" would both agree on that.

Queenbean · 28/03/2016 19:04

I think the OP is coming across mostly like a dick, but it is funny with all these people saying "I know all these great places but don't like you so won't share". REALLY don't think the OP gives a toss!

catgirl1976 · 28/03/2016 19:11

I don't give a toss that the OP doesn't give a toss Grin

She could try this Grovesnor www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1245721/Filthy-disgusting-Blackpool-hotel-voted-worst-Europe-UK-dominates-list-continents-dirtiest.html - I think they have a level of charm in common with each other.

Jaimx86 · 28/03/2016 19:11

Lynette, there are lots of websites, yes, but they don't always paint an accurate picture. I was on a site last night (The Telegraph travel section, I think) and the write up it gave about some places I'd been wasn't accurate to my experience. It sounded a bit like the hotel has written it itself.
My final check is always TripAdvisor, but I need to narrow down the search first.

Ifitaintfixed · 28/03/2016 19:14

Op, if you wanted to start again maybe in a less inflammatory way you could post on the travel weekend thread.
There's tons of advice on there.

iamtotallyserious · 28/03/2016 19:16

If you want actual recommendations/experience, I have stayed at the following spa-type hotels:

Calcot Manor
Babington House
Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park
Browns (Mayfair)
The Grove
Pennyhill Park

My favourite is Babington House, but two nights with spa treatments and food will probably come in closer to £1500/2000. I love it there. The rooms (we have stayed in various but my fave are those in the main house - the one with bath in front of open fire!) are gorgeous and the cocktail bar v relaxed and cool. We haven't been since having kids though!

I found Pennyhill a bit footballers wives tbh Blush. Rooms were nice but a bit lacking in personality. There was some football team having dinner when we were there. So is quite cool. Has some sort of outside but and loads of ice rooms etc as I recall.

The Grove is nice but very corporate in feel I thought (and in fact I have been to a couple of work events there too). Didn't use spa.

Browns is lovely though cannot recall if there is a spa - we didn't use it if there was. We had a suite which was enormous (night of our wedding actually!).

Mandarin - service amazing and if you book you can get into the fab restaurant - some famous chef cannot recall name. Service impeccable. Spa is nice but not massive like out of London spas. We had a suite which was nice but quite old school decor.

Calcot is lovely - we went with children - and I recall the food was v good. We were three for three nights and had a suite with two bedrooms. I still prefer Babington though.

iamtotallyserious · 28/03/2016 19:18

Sorry re Pennyhill I meant to say 'spa is quite cool' not 'So is quite cool' - was not actually that cool when the footy team were in #rowdylouts

BarbaraofSeville · 28/03/2016 19:28

Why would recommendations on here be more accurate than anywhere else?

We all like different things and expect different standards. I hate hotel maid service as I don't like the intrusion and see no need for a bathroom to be cleaned daily.

Others may love it that they don't have to do it themselves and like the new pile of fresh towels each day.

One person's delicious gourmet food might be too fancy and portions too small for someone else. I would hesitate to recommend anywhere specific on here because a lot of people expect higher standards of naiceness and cleanliness than I do. Something that I would be perfectly happy with would be someone else's filthy dump.

Easy for people to say they have £1k to spend when they don't...

It wouldn't be the fact you were socializing with me. it would be the fact I wouldn't want to be experiencing you in the same hotel as me.n You sound tacky, and your husband refers to women as 'bitches'.

JolieMadame · 28/03/2016 19:37

I wouldn't particularly bother with the Grosvenor. It's nice but it's ideas are a bit above its station

If do a weekend at Gleneagles personally.

Buzzardbird · 28/03/2016 19:38

The eyes aren't even stuck on well on this puppet show. Grin

BeaufortBelle · 28/03/2016 19:42

Just googled Calcott Manor and with advance notice they welcome dogs. Might suit the op I suppose but I wouldn't want a "decadent" weekend spoilt by dogs.

XIsACunt · 28/03/2016 19:42

Buzzard. If you keep your hand still the eyes won't pop off Grin

Buzzardbird · 28/03/2016 19:44

My hand will never be stuck up a sock Cunt Grin

greatscott81 · 28/03/2016 19:47

Babington House and Soho Farmhouse are my favourites but you have to be a member. Sounds like it's what you're looking for.

I'm happy to give the advice, but do think the 'super poor' comment was lowly.

ShatnersBassoon · 28/03/2016 19:51

Op, ask your real life super rich bitches.

“Am I being unreasonable to spend £1000?”

There is simply no better way to get detailed and well thought out reviews of luxury hotels than asking the above, as we have discovered here.
