Am I too old to enter 'beauty pageant'?

So every spring, the city in which I live in hosts a festival which is a celebration of the people who live here and they choose a 'Queen' to lead the festival and parades. Now typically the queen is a teenage girl, aged around 15-20 however I've applied to be this years queen for a few reasons which I think are valid. I think it's an excellent way to give back to people who have supported me in this city and our little business so much and to promote some of the amazing charities and causes we work with..

I'm 25 BTW and there's no age limit specified, but told some of my friends and they weren't very supportive? Some say I would make a lovely queen, would really enjoy etc and have the best time of my life though so unsure.

AIBU?

I think I'd worry about looking like the person on the left in this picture of World Pokemon Championship winners.

You're good value, Pavlova

Tough how being a beauty queen gives anything to your community, I haven't the foggiest.

Orwellschild · 23/03/2016 23:03

Oh not her again.......

PlaydoughBarbershop · 25/03/2016 16:41

I am howling at " informal selection day "!
All giddy early teen girls and a fully composed grown woman dressed in full Anna gown with her natural flowing auburn hairGrin

PaulAnkaTheDog · 01/04/2016 11:43

I don't know how I missed this the first time, I love pipz threads!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/04/2016 12:19

I'm baffled OP. What EXACTLY would you be 'giving back to the community'? Confused

Surely it must be obvious to you that this is something that some young women between the stated ages perhaps might be interested in doing? I think people will laugh at you but perhaps not to your face.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/04/2016 12:20

Oh... I've now read the rest of the thread and realised that you have some form for starting ridiculous threads.

EmGee · 01/04/2016 12:25

Is this the OP with the two Maui wedding threads?

OP (if you are 'real'), let the teenagers have their moment, for goodness sake.

Curren I was a May Queen once! (When I was 11).

Stillbloodyfat · 01/04/2016 16:20

I'm going for the part of Mary in our preschool nativity this year. Don't see why all these young whippersnappers should have all the glory. I have the right hair colour, I can do a wicked Olaf impression if you give me a carrot and I almost look virginy. I own my own fridge and I owe it to my adoring public. Stand back bitches I'm a coming!

Strokethefurrywall · 01/04/2016 18:21

Please, please don't delete this MNHQ, I love these threads!

southlondonluxe · 01/04/2016 23:34

I think if you are posting on mumsnet you are too old to enter a beauty pageant irrespective of your actual age

DryShampoo · 02/04/2016 00:10

I think the OP is entering the Lovely Girls Competition at Tedfest.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 02/04/2016 02:56

So how do the usual15 yr old 'queen for a day' girls ensure the event runs smoothly? Because school children aren't generally the go-to people to coordinate the adults.

Therefore I deduce that the queen role is about looking pretty and excited in a nice frock :)

Thank you so much pp that bumped this, how the hell I missed it I'll never know!

MissBeaHavingFountOfWisdom · 02/04/2016 03:16

Or is it QueenPippaPavlovaofMaui ?Confused

BillSykesDog · 02/04/2016 03:49

I have visions of Elsa standing on a marble table on the Maui sands singing 'Let it go' while she gets married to her fiancé with all her recalcitrant bridesmaids do backing dancing.

MissHooliesCardigan · 02/04/2016 04:51

OP, what would you do with the £1000 of hair care as you already have perfect hair? Are you allowed to use it to buy wigs?

TheNumberfaker · 02/04/2016 05:06

Well I completely misinterpreted the first few posts! Thought it was someone spoofing Pip Middleton!

Italiangreyhound · 02/04/2016 10:58

I had the chance to be kind of May Queen/procession thing in the village I loved in aged 20. I got bitten in the knee really badly (by a horse fly) and didn't enter! Wish I had. It was 30 years ago!

I'm a feminist so I don't think it is ok if it is based on my on looks and is only for women. If men can enter for King too, that's fine for me.

Italiangreyhound · 02/04/2016 11:00

Sorry only on looks....

x2boys · 02/04/2016 11:50

Just read this hilarious ,loving the idea of a miss mumsnet competition if they have a greying, overweight ,forty something section I, m your QueenGrin

KurriKurri · 02/04/2016 12:57

I'm worried about my campaign for the crown now - there's a lot of competition popping up especially in the 'older contestant' category.

Also I fear I may not be aging well - the woman at the counter when I was buying a train ticket yesterday asked me if I had an 'over sixties rail card' - Part of me thought 'cheeky fecker' but part of me was a little bit excited at the thought of old age rail travel perks Grin
