Am I too old to enter 'beauty pageant'?

So every spring, the city in which I live in hosts a festival which is a celebration of the people who live here and they choose a 'Queen' to lead the festival and parades. Now typically the queen is a teenage girl, aged around 15-20 however I've applied to be this years queen for a few reasons which I think are valid. I think it's an excellent way to give back to people who have supported me in this city and our little business so much and to promote some of the amazing charities and causes we work with..

I'm 25 BTW and there's no age limit specified, but told some of my friends and they weren't very supportive? Some say I would make a lovely queen, would really enjoy etc and have the best time of my life though so unsure.

AIBU?

curren it isn't a city wide beauty pageant, at a springtime festival they crown a local resident as 'Queen'..

The OP is a highly, highly successful business woman. That much I do know. If she wants to give back by beating a bunch of teenagers to a plastic crown, then who are we to stand in her way?

Get those celebrity sportspeople to vote for you, OP. That'll swing it.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2016 17:55

Mmm, not liking the elephant man comment much.

Floggingmolly · 23/03/2016 17:55

Aw, op just wants to parade around dressed as the Queen she so obviously is to thank her fawning public for loving her so much. Don't rain on her parade Wink

pavlovapippa · 23/03/2016 17:56

Well FirstWeTakeManhattan, it's not so much that I want to beat the teenage girls it's just that I feel slightly more deserving due to life experience and having a wise head on my shoulders.. if that's conceited then so be it. Grin

our little business

Oh OP. So modest.

ditavonteesed · 23/03/2016 17:56

do you live in mystic falls? If so I would be careful the queen always ends up being turned into a vampire/.

WorraLiberty · 23/03/2016 17:56

girlfrommars33 I am actually the owner of a successful events company (mainly focusing on childrens birthday parties but have since expanded into corporate events)

How come you've never mentioned this before? Shock Shock Shock

Worra Grin

curren · 23/03/2016 17:58

so yes I have plenty of experience and part of the duty as queen is to ensure the festival runs smoothly

'm used to acting in a royal manner too as through my company I take on some acting roles

You dress up as Elsa, you are not Kate Middletons body double. Confused

LilacSpunkMonkey · 23/03/2016 17:59

Giving back by taking away from local teens.

Brilliant Hmm

pavlovapippa · 23/03/2016 18:00

Just to clear something up that has somehow been misconstrued, I act as the character of Princess Anna not Elsa due to my hair colour and not wanting to wear itchy wigs ( much more authentic anyway)

My town used to have a tulip parade every year that people would travel miles to attend.

On the floats there was a flower prince and princess and a tulip queen.

Now most queens were 18-19 but there wasn't actually an upper age limit. Just lower age due to the floats.

They had to show civic pride and what they do within the community.

They were then the queen for a year and would turn on the lights at Christmas and open up any event in town.

Our tulip parade ran for 50 years.

They cancelled it two years ago and I still miss it.

So go ahead and enter

though I seem to be missing something funny

That didn't take you long to drop that in Grin

As amusing as your threads can be op, they're going to get boring very quickly. I genuinely hope you're a bit of a piss taker tbh otherwise I dread to think what people say about you in rl.

"What exactly would you be giving back OP?"

She's giving them the gift of gazing at her adoringly of course...

curren · 23/03/2016 18:03

Ah you are Anna, not Elsa.

Still doesn't mean you have experience acting like Royalty.

Besides which I am sure 'most authentic impression of a Royal' won't be part of the criteria

ditavonteesed · 23/03/2016 18:04

I do, currently binge watching it.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2016 18:04

Oh. There are other threads? Do I need to catch up?

ditavonteesed · 23/03/2016 18:05

oh yes sparkling

curren · 23/03/2016 18:05

sparkling it's worth the advanced search.
