Am I too old to enter 'beauty pageant'?

So every spring, the city in which I live in hosts a festival which is a celebration of the people who live here and they choose a 'Queen' to lead the festival and parades. Now typically the queen is a teenage girl, aged around 15-20 however I've applied to be this years queen for a few reasons which I think are valid. I think it's an excellent way to give back to people who have supported me in this city and our little business so much and to promote some of the amazing charities and causes we work with..

I'm 25 BTW and there's no age limit specified, but told some of my friends and they weren't very supportive? Some say I would make a lovely queen, would really enjoy etc and have the best time of my life though so unsure.

AIBU?

You are too old. Leave it for the teeny boppers who think the world revolves around them.

WorraLiberty · 23/03/2016 18:06

Yes you need to let it go OP

Let it go...

LilacSpunkMonkey · 23/03/2016 18:06

Oh c'mon, there's no 'acting' involved in dressing up as one of the Frozen twosome. They're ten a penny at the moment. You whack on a costume and smile for photos with little girls. You're hardly Meryl Streep.

SaveSomeSpendSome · 23/03/2016 18:06

Are you the op whos friend wanted to pay you after you had done the party due to cash flow problems?

If so, how did you get on with that i never saw the thread again.

How come all of mumsnet know what you do for a living?

pavlovapippa · 23/03/2016 18:07

I guess the general consensus is to just leave it? There's an informal selection day the first Saturday of April so it would be worth going along at least?

Pavlovapippa, are you Pippa Middleton?

pavlovapippa · 23/03/2016 18:08

LilacSpunkMoney I was meaning to update everyone but didn't think people would care! Managed to sort it out, she borrowed money from her parents in the end so the party went ahead as planned.. roaring success!

Guess again what the general consensus is...

LilacSpunkMonkey · 23/03/2016 18:10

Um, yeah, thanks for that but I didn't ask and don't care

MistressDeeCee · 23/03/2016 18:10

ha ha ha ha haGrin

I am in awe of you OP, I just don't know how you find time for your 50 other roles in this life, alongside being Miss Braggadocious

You do know other people are successfully self employed and wear several hats, right? Albeit they wouldnt be as big as yours & Elephant Man's

Anyway aside from all that go for the beauty pageant thing if you want but fgs stop making a meal out of everything. & if you do win, pls dont come back and tell us all youve been signed up as world peace ambassador or some such

Go for it

curren · 23/03/2016 18:11

I am pretty sure that informal selection day is in the first Friday of April.

Honestly OP definitely go for it.

pavlovapippa · 23/03/2016 18:11

Oh sorry must have read it wrong.. I'm sorry but there's no need to be so rude about it

OP posts:
Floggingmolly · 23/03/2016 18:11

Ah no, Queenie, fight for your crown! Trample all over those 13 year old wannabes, you deserve it more

catwithflowers · 23/03/2016 18:11

How funny. I'm off to search for the OP's other threads now. I could do with a giggle Grin

girlfrommars33 · 23/03/2016 18:12

Grin laughs evilly

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2016 18:14

I have sort of caught up.

Never seen Frozen, not really my sort of thing. Isn't is a bit old hat now?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/03/2016 18:15

It seems an odd way of selecting it Confused We have Rose/May/Water Lily Queens coming out of our ears around my neck of the woods, but they're usually to do with the church/Guides or have been involved in the parade since being tiny.

I've never seen one older than 18, and one is traditionally 11, but there's no reason you couldn't be queen I suppose.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/03/2016 18:16

I don't think your experience if dressing up as a Disney princess will be particularly important though - it's more a community thing.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 23/03/2016 18:16

You've started a thread asking if you, a grown woman, should enter a beauty pageant for teen girls.

And you think I shouldn't be rude?

I've been incredibly restrained tbh.

curren · 23/03/2016 18:18

polka just reminded me!

I was May queen at our church when I was 11. Was Mint! Got to wear a crown and THEN put a crown on the head of a statue of The Virgin Mary.

For to parade aprons around the shut her in my long white dress and long blue Cloak and even had my own attendants. For flowers and a photo shoot after!

Was really fun, when I was 11. Wink

MyLocal · 23/03/2016 18:21

Ha ha ha Papergirl, yes she has to be!

LaConnerie · 23/03/2016 18:23

Is it un-pc to say that the elephant man wasnt much of a looker then?

Stylingwax · 23/03/2016 18:25
Roussette · 23/03/2016 18:25

You'll look like a total prat entering a teen contest and when you aren't chosen, you'll look like even more of a prat!
