Europe is not just about rules. What about the money spent on regeneration in the UK?

Europe has invested massively in our country. The UK would look very different without EU money.

NameRanger · 12/03/2016 07:36

So far I've counted...

60 = OUT
41 = IN

ditherydora · 12/03/2016 07:38

Eek - that's pretty scary nameranger. I would have guessed mn would be more in than out.

anotherbusymum14 · 12/03/2016 07:42

And that's probably an issue right there Ovaries.
What is it to be Britsh - or English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish? And why are people so easily letting go of their identity for promises of something bigger.
I definitely say out.

RabbitSaysWoof · 12/03/2016 07:53

I'm amazed that as much as 40% of MNers still believe the EU is a benign institution with ordinary people's interests at heart. But quite cheered to see so many for Leave. I'd assumed MN would lean towards Remain as well and am pleasantly surprised to see it's even if not tilted for Leave.

RomComPhooey · 12/03/2016 08:25

Again, if you want to protect your vulnerable do not hand control of their rights and services to a third party like the EU.

Like G4S or Serco? Hmm

Followyourart · 12/03/2016 08:29

As someone previously said, the fact that IDS wants to leave tells me all I need to know!!!
It's blindingly obvious we will leave and we need to be prepared for that.
I'll be looking to emigrate for certain, however how easy will it be?

MrsGradyOldLady · 12/03/2016 08:29

Out

I really wouldn't want to be part of a union that includes Turkey.

Followyourart · 12/03/2016 08:30

I also thought MN would sway towards In, however the out brigade are the loudest and are most likely spamming/trolling. (They seem like the types after all........)

OTheHugeManatee · 12/03/2016 08:33

G4S is a contractor. Contracts can be ended. Rights and powers handed to the EU cannot be reclaimed - see the pitiful results of Cameron's renegotiation.

Handing power to the EU would only be comparable to handing contracts to Serco if the contract was permanent, irrevocable, wildly overpriced ok that bit's probably true and gave Serco authority over the UK government.

Totally false analogy.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/03/2016 08:33

Gosdy comment Follow haven't exactly noticed you being quiet on this thread. Pots and kettles and all that.

MrsGradyOldLady · 12/03/2016 08:33

I'm certainly not trolling.

The last poll on mumsnet also favoured "leave" which is surprising as the demographic is reported in the media to favour "remain". Most people I know in real life are voting leave - probably 60/40 in favour. Personally, I think we'll stay though as I think a lot of the "undecided" will either not vote or vote for the status quo.

OTheHugeManatee · 12/03/2016 08:37

Followyourart - that is a grossly insulting and rather puerile thing to say. I have watched the EU for many years and during that time moved from ardent support of its ideals to disgust at the corruption of those ideals and its descent into an elitist pork-barrel project. My objections to the EU are principled and well informed as is the case with most people I know who want to leave.

It's the lowest form of politics to insult the character rather than the ideas of your opponents. I suggest you take a look at yourself before making ugly generalisations about people who don't share your views.

ditherydora · 12/03/2016 08:40

Mantel - I don't think the EU is a particularly benign institution. It is necessary though if we don't want to spend 10 or 20 years trying to negotiate trade agreements which are fundamental to our economic stability. It has also achieved change in areas like equality and workers rights which I simply don't believe we would have got otherwise.

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/03/2016 08:42

Hugs Manatee

I always feel soooo much better when I find out I'm on the same side as you.

I was a believer in the Common Market when we first joined. But not of the EU with its unelected career bureaucrats and gross costs.

As for Turkey miraculously becoming part of Europe ..

Chocolatteaddict1 · 12/03/2016 08:45

Eh? Since when did wanting to vote out mean you were a troll Hmm

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/03/2016 08:45

And I have no idea where this ridiculous notion that it will take a decade to negotiate trade agreements has come from. I believe many of our agreements exist out with the EU anyway. Plus other countries will not want to lose the British market either.

And hopefully we can start importing Peck's Anchovette paste again.

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/03/2016 08:46

Trolls are Norwegian of course.

purits · 12/03/2016 08:46

There is no such thing as Bremain.
Do you mean rEUmain - with the emphasis in the made-up word (and in RL) on the bureaucracy of the EU and not on Britain.

Outie, in case you hadn't guessed.

blackistheneworange · 12/03/2016 08:49

Out, I'll get back under my bride!

blackistheneworange · 12/03/2016 08:50

Or bridge even...

purits · 12/03/2016 08:51

Europe has invested massively in our country. The UK would look very different without EU money.

Where do you think EU money came from in the first place!?
