Rude woman or just me?

Hi all! Need your opinions.

So I just got back from tonight's yoga class and feel a little odd with the encounter that I just had. Well I got chatting to another woman who had just joined, as she was talking I glanced out the window for a moment and noticed the moon and I out of the blue mentioned how pretty it looked & how it affects my behaviour - no I'm not crazy haha, please mention if this happens to you too!

Anyway she proceeded to snicker at what I had just said and found a way to excuse herself as if I had just said the world's craziest thing or killed her cat or something?? Am I wrong for thinking she was really rude to laugh and excuse herself? I don't know if I want to go back to my class anymore which is a real shame because I really enjoyed going until this woman joined.

is this pippa again...

I think you should give each other a wide berth

nocoolnamesleft · 10/03/2016 19:30

I must admit, I'd have assumed you were taking the piss...and might have thought it was rather insensitive relative to people with MH issues. (Presume you knoe the origin of the word "lunatic"?)

paxillin · 10/03/2016 19:36

So among the first things she knew about you was that the moon affects your behaviour? Sniggering might have been unkind, but I would have tried to find a way to excuse myself promptly, too.

zodiackelly · 10/03/2016 19:36

Some of these comments are quite confusing?

And nocoolnamesleft - if that's the case, people should be a little less sensitive.

Sounds like awkwardness to me, rather than meanness.

I went to a yoga class once and a woman came up to me afterwards, stood a bit too close for my liking and said, 'mmmmm, my pelvis feels so....open.' I had no idea what to say in response, was overcome with awkwardness and took my leave. I didn't mean anything by it. I thought she was a bit intense though, and didn't go back to that class.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2016 19:38

Just let it go. Isn't yoga supposed to be relaxing? Stop stressing.

Buckinbronco · 10/03/2016 19:40

I don't think chatting to
Someone in a yoga class means much, it sounds like you are overthinking it.

I did however, think it was common for people to refer to the moon changing moods and influencing behaviour though. Never heard it referred to as hippy shit before

ilovesooty · 10/03/2016 19:40

people should be a little less sensitive

Hmm
CrushedNinjas · 10/03/2016 19:41

Why would you consider giving up your class on the basis of a brief conversation?

Presumably, the point of the class is to do Yoga rather than exchange small talk?

Just go next week and smile if she looks in your direction. No biggie.

BillSykesDog · 10/03/2016 19:41

It would have all been a bit ridiculous. Like arriving at the Daily Mail office for a business meeting and immediately running into someone who complained about immigrants, told you coffee would give you cancer and tutted at the 'leggy display and showcased curves' you had in your dress.

If someone said that to me in a yoga class I'd piss myself.

Katenka · 10/03/2016 19:43

Some of these comments are quite confusing?

I don't know, are they?

oldlaundbooth · 10/03/2016 19:43

Meh.

I talk about the moon all the time and how it affects me: your woman at yoga is not on the same wavelength. Move on.

HelsBels3000 · 10/03/2016 19:43

actually you said in your OP as she was talking I glanced out the window for a moment and noticed the moon and I out of the blue mentioned
you can't now change that statement to, actually I waited until she finished before I said it - just because you are being called out for rudeness.
Which is the truth?
and yes YABU.

SauvignonBlanche · 10/03/2016 19:44

I'd have thought you were making a joke.

Shutthatdoor · 10/03/2016 19:45

GirlOverboard · 10/03/2016 19:46

I don't think she meant to be rude. I think she was just thrown by the 'moon affecting my behaviour' line and laughed out of awkwardness, then felt awkward for laughing. It is a bit of a random thing to come out with when making small talk with a stranger. Don't stop going to your classes though, that would be silly. Just ignore it or laugh it off with her when you see her next.

bornwithaplasticspoon · 10/03/2016 19:46

Op, from you way you have written the scenario it's not unreasonable for the reader to assume that you looked away when she was talking to you and then interrupted her.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 10/03/2016 19:49

So people need to be less sensitive about mental health issues but you can interupt someone when they're speaking to say you're affected by the moon and if they laugh it means they're rude?

Also, how do you surround yourself with one person?

ScoutsMam · 10/03/2016 19:49

Like this?

Thatrabbittrickedme · 10/03/2016 19:50

OP - people should be a little less sensitive is a bit contradictory given you are suggesting the conversation described in your post is a reason for you to give up yoga altogether - just because a random woman you were casually chatting with doesnt 'get' your affinity with the moon's cycle! I would say the woman was not particularly rude and you are the one being super sensitive....

pictish · 10/03/2016 19:52

I'm definitely one with my thoughts during a full moon, and then sometimes I feel a little more erratic and over the place.

What does this even mean? When are you ever separated from your thoughts? I don't understand.

Buckinbronco · 10/03/2016 19:55

Surely you know the concept of being at one with yourself? It's hardly new.

SaucyJack · 10/03/2016 19:56

One cannot expect others to find one's own inner drivel thoughts as interesting and impressive as one finds one's own.

Deal with.

pictish · 10/03/2016 19:57

But what has the moon got to do with it?
