AIBU to think a male paedophile rapist should definitely go to a male prison?

And it shouldn't just be "likely"?

Who well seen the number of cases, you would think so wouldn't you? Except that actually we are talking about a handful of people that are very very good at making the headlines and giving to themsleves much more importance than they actually have. And certainly more importance than anyone else.

MorrisZapp · 04/03/2016 20:03

What's the point of sharing or talking about this story when there's no suggestion at all that he will be going to a female prison?

I don't think there's anything to see here.

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 04/03/2016 20:03

YANBU it sounds like he's trying to avoid being held responsible for his actions with this trans nonsense

Aeroflotgirl · 04/03/2016 20:07

Yanbu he is not a she, and should be in a male Prison.

HermioneWeasley · 04/03/2016 20:09

morris the judge said it was "likely" Davina would go to a male prison - not definitive.

Also, I think it's an excellent live example of what does "woman" mean, and what are the implications of self identification.

Every time we have one of these threads at least one person says that they have been made aware of the issue for the first time. And I think women being informed of the fact we are about to lose sex segregated space matters.

But Aryton is going to a male prison.

ElderlyKoreanLady · 04/03/2016 20:14

Because Morris under a self identification system, this violent rapist would be going to a women's prison.

SpeakNoWords · 04/03/2016 20:15

As far as I understand it, that is always up to the prison service to decide. I would imagine that, as with Tara Hudson, if Ayrton can gather enough support to say that they are unsafe in the male estate, a move to a women's prison is entirely possible.

HermioneWeasley · 04/03/2016 20:17

speak as I understand it, if you have a gender reassignment certificate (GRC) then you go to that prison. In its absence, it's at the discretion of the judge. If self identification comes in, there will be no GRCS, self identification will effectively replace it and Davina would legally be a woman.

I'm not sure I even agree with this 'I think, therefore I am' position. It is far too wide open for abuse. I mean for all we know this particular person only decided they were transgender in anticipation of being convicted for this crime at some point in the future, hoping for a softer sentence and/or to be sent to a women's prison.

AugustaFinkNottle · 04/03/2016 20:19

Oh look. Another trans thread that is just going round and round the same old material all over again.

Do we really have to? The judge has said that this person is not going to a female prison, do we have to work ourselves up into yet another frenzy about something that isn't planned anyway?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 04/03/2016 20:20

Ynbu. The disgusting beast has a penis, so that makes him male.

SpeakNoWords · 04/03/2016 20:22

Yes, sorry, I meant in the situation without a GRC. It was my understanding that the prison service could decide to rehouse if they felt that was necessary, but I could be completely wrong about that.

augusta if you don't want to read this thread, nobody is forcing you. But I am really grateful to the MNetters who raised my awareness of this issue and it seems from comments on this thread that others aren't aware of "the same old material".

Whether he has a penis or not, it doesn't matter - he is a male - always has, and always will be. The whole idea that if a man chops his penis off he magically becomes a woman pisses me off. Women aren't dickless men.

ElizabethLemon · 04/03/2016 20:24

Eurgh this makes me so angry.

Of course they should go to a male prison. They used their male body to overpower and rape a child.

Esspee · 04/03/2016 20:26

Why should I respect anything to do with a rapist?

DianaTrent · 04/03/2016 20:29

YANBU and this is exactly the problem with the notion of doing away with the current GRC pathway in place of self-identification for all legal purposes which is being proposed by trans activists.

eatingworms · 04/03/2016 20:31

Augusta awareness really needs to be raised. Lots of people do not understand the full implications of what Maria Miller is trying to do. This needs to be talked about and you will struggle to find many places where discussion is not being censored.

tealoveryum · 04/03/2016 20:31

To be perfectly honest, I think all paedophiles should be removed from both society and using oxygen. I've seen the pain that they put their victims through and the lasting scars.

AGnu · 04/03/2016 20:35

I don't identify as a TERF so, despite the fact that I agree with the OP, no-one's allowed to call me that or I'll get offended, m'kay?

DianaTrent · 04/03/2016 20:35

Nowhere is the idea of female-only space more important than in those spaces which the women cannot choose to leave.

Paddletonio · 04/03/2016 20:35

Totally agree with you op
