AIBU to think a male paedophile rapist should definitely go to a male prison?

And it shouldn't just be "likely"?

Within the uk prison system, a person born male but with a gender recognition certificate will be placed into a women's prison. Otherwise I believe it's on a case by case basis.

Italiangreyhound · 04/03/2016 19:30

terf is a slur. It's a website,

terfisaslur.com/

I use preferred pronouns for people because I want to be polite. I treat people I meet with respect. I am not a terf. I find it highly offensive that a debate about a serious issue cannot be had with out people being called bigots.

This person is a male, he raped a teenager, I am not sure he gets to use female pronouns. Respect goes both ways. But let's be honest, it's meaningless to call this person she, there is nothing female about a person who has made no modifications at all to their body and has behaved in a very male entitled way.

If this were a woman who had violently assaulted a male and then wanted to be identified as a male, and put in company with vulnerable males, I wonder what society would say!

hazeyjane · 04/03/2016 19:30

Unmentioned - what makes a transwoman with male anatomy a woman?

SpeakNoWords · 04/03/2016 19:31

Soapboxqueen, your proposed system would be considered transphobic and offensive. Essentially sex becomes irrelevant, as if I say I am a woman, then I am, regardless of biology. To record someone who identifies as a woman as biologically male is considered transphobic and also considered to be violently erasing their existence.

LifeofI · 04/03/2016 19:31

ESPECIALLY with a crime like that! no question about it, male prison.

soapboxqueen · 04/03/2016 19:33

speaknowords I appreciate many would see it as transphobic but I'm a bit to attached to reality to care.

SpeakNoWords · 04/03/2016 19:33

Italiangreyhound, I'm afraid that would make you a TERF I think. If they identify as female, they are female, and should be treated as any other female. That's what this change to self-identification will mean.

whatdoIget · 04/03/2016 19:39

notamummy -
it's a load of bollocks though isn't it?
He's sullying the pronoun 'she'
He's no more a woman than I'm the Queen of Sheba
He is a rapist

eatingworms · 04/03/2016 19:41

If that is really where this change in law that is being proposed is heading then we women should be very very afraid. This I'd absolutely bonkers scary shit.
And to Tabsicle on the first page, the reason this topic keeps popping up is because lucky for us, some people really care about the welfare of their fellow women. Unlike others who seem to think those born male are more important.

expatinscotland · 04/03/2016 19:42

There are already been several female inmates in US jails/prisons who have been raped by inmates who are fully intact males but identify as females. IIRC, two women are suing the state of Indiana due to having been raped by a trans inmate whilst incarcerated.

YANBU.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 04/03/2016 19:44

THIS is what the asinine acceptance of 'if I identify as a woman I am one' leads to. Male child rapists being considered for women's prison because they identify as a woman.
Identifying as a woman doesn't make you a woman. Having surgery and trying your best to resemble a woman in appearance and behaviour makes you a possibly passing trans woman. Nothing can turn a man into a woman.

eatingworms · 04/03/2016 19:44

I meant Tabsicle, sorry, not Fascicle.

Chocolatteaddict1 · 04/03/2016 19:45

That picture of him made me feel sick! Horrible man.

whatdoIget · 04/03/2016 19:45

He hates being a man so much he used his penis to rape a child. How womanly of him Hmm

MrsJamin · 04/03/2016 19:47

SpeakNoWords, is your biology irrelevant?

SpeakNoWords · 04/03/2016 19:48

I'm a TERF, apparently, and a terrible bigot as a result. So for me my biology is the only thing that makes me a woman, so no, for me it is not irrelevant. However society seems to disagree with me.

TurtleEclipseofTheHeart · 04/03/2016 19:50

I wonder how/whether the Guardian will report this?

MrsJamin · 04/03/2016 19:51

SpeakNoWords, I read your posts as if you were happy with self-identification, I apologise for the misunderstanding.

HermioneWeasley · 04/03/2016 19:51

Yes, as many have said, this is where the recommendation that thr government adopts self identification leads us. Removing David/Davina from your showers, your hospital ward, your rape crisis centre will now be a hate crime.

If you don't think that's right then please write to your MP because make no mistake, that's where we are headed.

I confidently predict there will be no coverage by the guardian - it would completely undermine their "trans women are women" mantra.

And I doubt that trans activists will be starting petitions for Davina as they did for Tara Hudson - this case drives a coach and horses through all their arguments.

We need to give it as much oxygen as possible - share with your friends, talk about it, nobody sensible thinks this is a good idea and if self identification is brought into the UK women and girls will gets hurt, as they have in other places which have already introduced it.

WhoWants2Know · 04/03/2016 20:00

I keep reading threads like this. Surely there must be enough of these cases by now for one wing in a prison somewhere in the uk to designated for transpeople. They're going to be in jail somewhere no matter what, so why not just put them together? Then we can respect their gender identities and all the criminals can be locked up as safely as possible.

LoveBoursin · 04/03/2016 20:01

Very simply a person who has a penis and is using to rape another person belongs in a prison with other people who have penis, some of which also have used it to rape someone.

If the issue is that that person is at risk from other inmates in such a prison, then you need to look at what sort of security measures can be implemented.
But, you don't put that person with a functioning pennis and a tendency to attack people who have vagina together. That would be crazy.

Fwiw, would a transman be put in a man's prison? I doubt it (and I doubt that they would want to tbh).
So let's stick with for transwomen too.
