Can't believe what Sky News reporter just said re child sex abuse victim of Adam Johnson

ofuckit · 02/03/2016 23:01

Did anybody else see this? I'm horrified and a bit disturbed tbh.

The reporter was talking to an ex footballer about the case and said 'Do you think it's hard for people to understand how hard it is to deal with the temptations put in the way of footballers'.... 😟
The ex footballer responded in agreement with the reporter, saying how oh yes it's very hard for them, etc....

So we can assume from this that these men see children as 'temptations put in their way'?

i feel sick 😞

Saw on sky sports news that he once spent fifty grand partying one night in LA. Would make ya sick, wouldn't it.

DiscoGlitter · 03/03/2016 00:15

Didn't see this, but have been reading the news on the case.
Just been to look at the Twitter feed of Sky and some of the comments to the headline are seriously depressing.

  • the fact is that even if that WERE true, she's still an under-age tart ! End of ......
  • she's old enough to know not to get in cars with strangers!! Ruined someone else job for her mistake. WTF about HIS mistake?! He's old enough to know better!

-little minx knew exactly what she was doing

Sad

just a few of them.
Yes, she might have been 'wanting' to (thinking back to when I was 15, quite a few of my friends were having sex, had boyfriends they wanted to do it with etc.
He was in a position of power though FFS,older and definitely should have known better!
Definitely in the wrong, not her, I'm sorry but 15 year olds can be stupid. Think they know it all and want it all but at the end of the day they're naïve CHILDREN.
Onus is on him to step away not encourage, FFS.

LuluJakey1 · 03/03/2016 00:18

It is typical of men's attitudes towards footballers in general. Idolising them whatever their behaviours- see Sunderland football club who have paid Johnson £2million in the last year, idolised and feted him, shouted abuse about his victim at matches and stood by him.

Breadandwine · 03/03/2016 00:20

I've put in a complaint. You are asked the name of the programme and the time it was broadcast, which is a bit awkward, since as the OP said, it's a short video report on the Sky News website.

So I've included the web address, which is:

news.sky.com/story/1652167/johnson-brought-down-by-desire-and-arrogance

for anyone else who wishes to complain.

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/03/2016 00:27

That's really poor.

Watching ch4 news earlier, they showed some text messages shared between AJ and the young girl. Her texts were exactly the sort I would have sent as a flattered young teen, full of confidence in my increasing self awareness as a young woman. But in reality, I knew nothing, 15 is so young. She was so young.

That he, an adult man, took advantage of burgeoning confidence, groomed her, revolts me. He knew better, she did not, how could she.

HelenaDove · 03/03/2016 00:40

Disco there was a thread started about Adam Johnson on here before the trial ended and im afraid to say i saw similar comments from an MNer.

i think the thread was deleted.

ArgelianArgelian · 03/03/2016 07:47

Wonder what the 'fans' would have said if it had been a 15 year old boy?

Cause we all 'know' females are only interested in football to shag a footballer…
Hmm

Would he have been a tart? Or would they have seen him for what's he is a sexual predator and child rapist?

ChristmasZombie · 03/03/2016 08:14

*donajimena

I've been horrified by the comments (a lot from women ) saying she knew what she was doing.
FFS at 15 I fantasised about shagging pop stars but I would have been terrified if I had ended up in a situation such as she did (and she was terrified)
At 15 you have the thoughts of a maturing woman but are in no way emotionally equipped to handle the reality.*

Yes. This exactly.
Of course she was flattered and enjoyed his attention, because he was grooming her. That is literally how abusers groom their victims.
I've been seeing a lot of victim blaming online regarding this case. "She knew what she was doing!" "She should take responsibility for her actions!" No. It's not her responsibility to not get raped; it's his responsibility to not rape! "Oh but it wasn't rape, it was consensual!" Nope. A 15 year old cannot consent to sex with an adult.

HazelBite · 03/03/2016 08:20

I honestly don't see what is going to be achieved by putting him in prison for 10 years?.
Surely hitting him in the pocket would be a better solution and a short sharp shock.

ssd · 03/03/2016 08:21

what I hate is all the "these footballers are role models"...no they are not!!

just because they are good at football and earn a fortune doesn't make them role models, what a load of crap!

they are people same as the rest of us and if they cant behave in a decent way then they go to jail for up to ten years like this piece of scum is doing.

chibsortig · 03/03/2016 08:22

Under 16s need to be protected from this.
Lots of us as teens dreamed of dating/shagging our idols but it shouldnt happen.
Grown ups should check themselves and behave. Its not ok for teachers to abuse their positions so why is everyone on twitter backing the footballer he had a position of power and he abused it. The girl in question is a child regardless of whether she engaged with him he is in the wrong. Bloody mental how when a child reaches their teens suddenly they must be in the wrong too. It is never the victims fault only the abuser.
Its about time we stopped adults seeing children and vulnerable people as being fair game! Fucking leave them alone!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 03/03/2016 08:23

There is alot of victim blaming going on. It is very depressing.

Argelian that's a good point. I suspect if it had been a boy fans & media would have been baying for AJ's blood.

DrDreReturns · 03/03/2016 08:34

HazelBite no I think depriving him off his liberty is an appropriate punishment.

DrDreReturns · 03/03/2016 08:35

off = of

MetalMidget · 03/03/2016 08:35

"Of course she was flattered and enjoyed his attention, because he was grooming her. That is literally how abusers groom their victims. "

It's bloody awful. What's bizarre is that some of the people justifying his behaviour by blaming the victim are the same who vocally express their horror at the Rochdale grooming ring, even though the pattern of behaviour is the same - flatter the victim, treat them like they're special, become a friend, then force them into sexual behaviour. That's what grooming is.

But because he's a footballer, obviously she's a gold digger/tart, etc. Which were exactly the same comments Savile's victims got when they initially went public with their experiences.

GooseberryRoolz · 03/03/2016 08:37

Yes I saw it and commented in astonishment to DS, who said 'what do you expect from Sky?'. He's right. They're ludicrously stupid and tabloid these days (and not just the cringeworthy KB).

limitedperiodonly · 03/03/2016 08:47

There is a lot of victim-blaming but the people who mattered, a jury of ordinary people, found him guilty. As did a jury of ordinary people in the Ched Evans case.

Some of them might have been inclined to feel the victims were at fault when they first sat down, but when they listened to the facts and had the law explained to them, they did the right thing.

That cheers me up.

Those on-line warriors admit that Johnson did it. So they would have no alternative but to find him guilty if they on his jury. I don't know what the rules are, but if one of my fellow jurors was going to acquit a person they knew to be guilty, or the other way round, I'd send a note to the judge to say a juror was not taking the job seriously to see if anything could be done.

MimsyPimsy · 03/03/2016 08:48

"Surely hitting him in the pocket would be a better solution and a short sharp shock." Hmm
Sort of confirming the child is a prostitute...

GhostofFrankGrimes · 03/03/2016 08:51

Yeah, only poor people should go to prison Hmm

Flashbangandgone · 03/03/2016 09:00

"Surely hitting him in the pocket would be a better solution and a short sharp shock."

Totally disagree.... Prison is far more appropriate.

So he's given a 'massive' £100k fine?... His likely reaction 'Oh well, I'll have to wait another 6months before I add an Aston Martin to my fleet of cars - oh, what hardship! That's learned me!' Hmm

Flashbangandgone · 03/03/2016 09:11

ps in a perverse way, he probably 'enjoyed' his 15 yo more than he would adding an extra luxury car to his fleet, so a substantial fine (unless it's so huge it totally clears him out) could be seen as a sick kind of 'good deal'.

BipBippadotta · 03/03/2016 09:17

A fine could be seen as the state retroactively selling a child to a footballer for sex. Or a footballer bribing his way out of prison. Hugely corrupt either way. If you're found guilty of an offence that attracts a prison sentence, you go to prison, whoever you are.

limitedperiodonly · 03/03/2016 09:24

Ched Evans's attempts to join an English club failed when the clubs were criticised, and his move to Malta was scuppered because it would have broken release conditions about meeting a probation officer every week.

So Johnson might not work again as a footballer in England or abroad and may not be in a position to add another Aston Martin to his fleet. He might have to sell those that he owns and any other assets. It's scarily easy to get through a fortune if you make no plans. Maybe he's been more sensible with his money than he has with his dick.

I don't really care either way, as long as he is going to prison for his sexual crimes against a child.
