this second article covers it a bit better and has photos, but they've been edited/blurred. they're not graphic, but a couple do show the horse laying in the road as they were taken before it was removed from the scene.

From what i can gather, the driver overtook the funeral procession and then pulled in hitting the horse so hard it went over the top of its harness mate, and she also smashed the front of the hearse.

The horse had to be put down at the scene.

What on earth is the matter with people that they would so something like this?

Terribly sad, horrific for the bereaved family and terrible for the carriage driver to lose his horse in such a needless way. How much time would it have added to this driver's journey to have waited? What sort of idiot overtakes a funeral procession?

It's horrific.

I feel for the family, but also for the horse owner. It takes years to train a matching pair like that, and I know he was very close to them.

Terribly sad.

That poor horse, the bereaved family having to deal with the additional trauma when I'm sure the funeral of their loved one is difficult enough. The poor funeral directors... Just awful & so unnecessary for the sake of saving a couple of minutes

We too have connections with the carriage driver, they are in bits, fortunately not badly injured. I cannot begin to imagine how the bereaved family coped with that.

I hope the driver was stone cold sober, not on a phone and has a bloody good reason, like swerving to miss a child. It really doesn't make any sense.

Ghostly, I expect they won't say the driver was at fault as that could prejudice any future legal case.

From friends who are there, ghosty, driver was overtaking and pulled in, as if believing the car would fit into the small gap between the carriage and the horses. It didn't and instead went crashing into the side of the carriage and the rear of the horses. The carriage driver was flung off and the horses sort of went over the top of the car.

it doesnt say they were overtaking? of course, it doesnt mean they werent and the petition says
"A horse was killed today whilst it carried a coffin to Coychurch. The driver wouldn't wait, overtook and then swerved into one of the horses that was pulling the funeral carriage."

That's horrendous, what a fucking stupid cow.

I never get why people overtake funeral processions. There is a crematorium near us and I am always amazing at how many drivers overtake. It just shows lack of respect, manners and patience.

I'm glad the driver isn't too badly hurt, i imagine he must be absolutely horrified, there can't have been anything he could do. I wish him a swift recovery!

Dm is a vicar, you'd be surprised how many people dangerously overtake a hearse or a funeral procession.

i'm just surprised it said that no arrests had been made, how can they not have arrested her for dangerous driving?

Some people just have no patience & crap road awareness. I pulled over today to let an ambulance past & a woman overtook me & blocked the ambulances way ?!?!?!

On reflection, I feel sorry for her, too. This won't go away for her, or her family either.
