Because if they do and the rest of the U.K. vote leave, it will trigger another independent Scotland referendum

Just curious.

I think the way the papers wrote these articles encouraged a lot of anti-Scottish feeling, not just anti-SNP feeling.

SirChenjin · 23/02/2016 21:49

Fear the Scots? Grin

'The papers' didn't treat it as such. Some were pro indy, others against.

AnthonyBlanche · 23/02/2016 21:49

laguna My indignation is because less than 2 years ago we had a referendum, the result of which was a resounding NO to independence. The referendum was said by Alex Salmond to be a "once in a lifetime event". The fact that less than 2 years after this once in a lifetime event the SNP are agitating for another referendum shows them up as the one trick pony they really are. I don't believe the SNP leadership even want independence now, they certainly don't want FFA, so i find it difficult to believe they would take independence now even if offered to them on a plate. All their bluff and bluster is just a means of deflecting attention from the mess they are making of running Scotland.

Shoveyergrannyaffabus · 23/02/2016 21:50

Did you even look at the examples ... Hmm

Shoveyergrannyaffabus · 23/02/2016 21:51

I said pre GE anyway, not pre Indyref, please keep up.

SirChenjin · 23/02/2016 21:52

Yes Laguna - the SNP have made no secret of the fact that they are ignoring the will of the Scottish people.

As to whether the Scottish people want another referendum - the polls say no.

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2016 21:53

I disagree that it shows them up as anything of the sort, wanting independence does not make them
a "one trick pony" and come the results of the elections we will see who's right eh.

AnthonyBlanche · 23/02/2016 21:53

What examples shove? You are coming across as just a wee bit rude! There's no need to be unpleasant just because someone doesn't share your politics.

AnthonyBlanche · 23/02/2016 21:54

I guess we will eh Laguna

Shoveyergrannyaffabus · 23/02/2016 21:55

I was talking to SirChenjin

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2016 21:55

Nothing to worry about then for you Sir C, if the Scottish people don't want independence they won't vote for them then. And it will be a No again obviously when the next referendum comes.....

AnthonyBlanche · 23/02/2016 21:56

Terribly sorry shove didn't realise I had wandered onto a thread where only Sir was allowed to reply to your posts Hmm

SirChenjin · 23/02/2016 21:57

Of course it does Laguna. The Scottish people spoke and they have continued to ignore that, despite their own claims that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I have no doubt that they will do very well in the next elections. Eh.

SirChenjin · 23/02/2016 21:59

OK - I'll repeat what Anthony has just said. What examples shove?

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2016 21:59

Well if and when they do well in the elections SirC that is also "the will of the Scottish people".

Shoveyergrannyaffabus · 23/02/2016 22:00

I didn't say that, my reply about examples was to SirChenjin. But you know, go ahead and rewrite history to suit your narrative. Again.

SirChenjin · 23/02/2016 22:02

Of course it is - but you're conflating the desire for another referendum with wanting the SNP in government. I've explained the difference.

Shove - what on earth are you on about?

LagunaBubbles · 23/02/2016 22:08

SirC whether you mean to or not the "I've explained...." quote sounds quite patronising....I have also "explained" the fact is if you vote for the SNP it won't come as any great surprise then they will want another referendum and ultimately independence.

rednsparkley · 23/02/2016 22:09

I am also Scottish and loathe the SNP and all they do

AnthonyBlanche · 23/02/2016 22:12

I know I'm not allowed to talk to you shove but what are you talking about?? Where are these examples you keep referring to? And what are they examples of?

Sallyingforth · 24/02/2016 09:50

Sallyingforth Scotland already has a separate legal system from England and it's not a 'real mess' so I don't think a difference in EU membership will have quite the impact you imagine.
As just one example, the Leave campaign want to be able to set their own laws on movement and immigration. An EU Scotland will follow EU rules on who can enter Scotland. How does that work at the Scottish /rUK border?

APlaceOnTheCouch · 24/02/2016 10:07

The same as it works at any other border.

But all of this is nonsense. The real question is whether or not we stay in the EU. It's not about rehashing the Scottish referendum. It's not about pre-empting some hypothetical problems that may or may not happen.

It reduces the debate to unbalanced fearmongering and tbh I find it sad and embarrassing in equal measure that such important discussions are regularly dumbed down to the level of a Daily Mail headline.

Twitter was and actually continues to be full of anti-Scottish sentiment, some of it encouraged by high profile figures and others by 'troll' accounts that they follow.

It's interesting because I find there is a massive difference between the conversations in RL and the conversations on social media about these issues.

Of course if you spend your time taking 'facts' from the media (rather than the relevant legislation and white papers) and your view of the debate from the school playground politics of social media, then you end up with a very different view of the issues and the level of debate than if you actually talk about it in RL.

So, I'm bowing out because this isn't the discussion I thought it was going to be and if I want to read lots of hyperbole about the EU and Scotland then at least Twitter only uses 140 characters to make its points.

Sallyingforth · 24/02/2016 10:40

The same as it works at any other border.
No, I'm sorry but that is no answer at all.
I asked a serious question as to how the border would work if one side had strictly controlled immigration and the other did not. Are you suggesting a wall and customs posts? Or what else?

Sallyingforth · 24/02/2016 10:42

And BTW I don't use FB or Twitter or any of those things.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 24/02/2016 11:04

The SNP are dicks. There. I said it.
