A couple I know who think they're the dogs gonads have just bought the ugliest house.

Many of you will say I'm lame and need to get a life. But this has put me in quite a good mood!

That is all.

I would be genuinely happy to be able to afford to buy any kind of house ever and when someone of my acquaintance buys one it gives me hope that one day I will too

PaulAnkaTheDog · 19/02/2016 17:43

I think what MrsDalloway said there is actually the best post on this thread.

lorelei9 · 19/02/2016 17:50

wow
something else going on here surely?

jealousy?

they like it and it sounds like they've made a good investment decision

to start a thread about it talking of schadenfreude is mad - but i don't think you've understood the word anyway

I live in a horrible looking building. The inside of the flat matched my spec and I am not rich, so I bought the best match for me. Are you really wealthy? I lived in converted period place once and it was shit freezing all the time. Never again. the building looking nice from outside was no compensation but if you can afford to heat it etc.

anyway, really odd post. I'd also be overjoyed to buy an actual house - with stairs and everything!

thisismypassword · 19/02/2016 18:03

I know what schadenfreude means thanks... Seeing as I see their purchase as unfortunate I believe the word fits.

Oh I grew up in a house almost identical to the ugly one, OP.

It was hideous and it was crap and cold to live in too.

I was pretty cross that my parents decided to buy it. They had no taste.

thisismypassword · 19/02/2016 18:04

Which? The 1970s house or period house?

OP posts:
thisismypassword · 19/02/2016 18:06

Well there must be a reason I don't like the couple, obviously. Doesn't take a genius. She's a biatch and he's a moron but why does it matter? Just said I don't like their style of house. Boo hoo.

OP posts:
PaulAnkaTheDog · 19/02/2016 18:06

But it's not schadenfreude. They bought a house they wanted, how is that misfortune?! Confused

thisismypassword · 19/02/2016 18:07

I view it as that bozo. It's taking glee in others' misfortune!!

OP posts:
lorelei9 · 19/02/2016 18:08

OP, you see their purchase as unfortunate....so if I bought a car I loved and you hated it, you'd giggle and laugh at my "misfortune" although I love the car...?

I'm posting with jetlag (I know, stupid) so I've just realised you said they think they're the dog's bollocks. So maybe you mean that they show off and you expected them to have a mansion in line with all their showing off or something?

Sophie38 · 19/02/2016 18:08

The 70s one. Ours was built in 1969. I fecking loathed it.

PegsPigs · 19/02/2016 18:08

I wanted to be with you on this because I can be a little gleeful at schadenfreude but that is a perfectly normal house round our way. Period houses are a bugger to heat and drink money but good luck to people who think that's worth paying a premium. I prefer spacious, well lit, rooms suited to modern living so in that sense YABU.

Sophie38 · 19/02/2016 18:09

btw I don't like the word moron and I wish people wouldn't use it.

But you are right about 70s houses being quite ugly.

thisismypassword · 19/02/2016 18:10

What's wrong with moron? Are no words sacred anymore?!

CaptainCrunch · 19/02/2016 18:11

It actually means shameful joy, and in light of your unpleasant snobby attitude it's pretty shameful right enough.

Sophie38 · 19/02/2016 18:11

It depends on the house Pegs - we live in a Victorian house, which is great wrt heating and not a money pit.

It has better windows too. I was always cold in the 60s house, always had rivers of condensation running off my window in my tiny box bedroom.

The large windows let out loads of heat.

I've lived in a lot of Victorian houses and they have all been better than that one was. And prettier, and more interesting, with bigger gardens, and not overlooked by a hundred other identical houses.

The maintenance costs were no different.

OP I'm ignoring your attempts at being a goady fucker, because the thread is interesting, but I wish you'd fucking behave.

thisismypassword · 19/02/2016 18:13

Get a grip please. I bet you have attitudes about others or other things that people may not like. Don't act so self righteous. Who's being snobby now?

This is one of those car crash threads that just keeps on giving.

Sallystyle · 19/02/2016 18:15

There is nothing to be gleeful about though is there? If they bought the house then they must be happy with it, so what are you getting pleasure from?

Simply that it's an ugly house. Is that so hard to believe?!
