I phoned the maternity unit at 11am today after contracting since yesterday, they told me to come in for 5 tonight. Still contracting and I haven't been checked on

Congratulations to you and your family. x

Lj8893 · 21/02/2016 17:22

Who helped you out of bed? The recovery nurse (assuming you had the forceps delivery in theatre?)?

Quite normal for your legs to still be numb after an epidural, and even after they aren't numb anymore you may feel a lack of confidence in mobilising but you will be fine eventually Smile. Tears are very normal!

chumbler · 21/02/2016 18:26

Congratulations. Hope your baby is well soon, and hope you are too! Very similar situation to me, it takes a lot out of you!! Remember your little bell is there - ask for help with anything and everything. Keep asking for help to bf and help with the latch, best wishes x x

DisappointedOne · 21/02/2016 18:29

Took more than 12 hours for my spinal to wear off (also had forceps delivery). Was clamouring for a shower but not allowed out of bed. Finally had catheter and wadding removed and when I stood up it was like my insides just fell out in the middle of the ward. Blush

On the upside, the shower that followed was probably the best I ever had! Grin

Congratulations on your little one. It has really been uphill for you, but you have done it! Flowers

Take it easy, don't rush recovering Wink FlowersFlowersFlowersFlowers

witsender · 21/02/2016 20:31

Well done lovely, you will get there. Your body will be in shock a little while, but take any and all opportunities to rest. Tell the midwives that you would like to breasstfeed so that they can help you express a little to help stimulate your supply. This expressed milk/colostrum can also go to your baby ..so win win!

MrsPCR · 21/02/2016 20:36

Yay! Congratulations OP on staying strong and bringing your beautiful little one into this world. Hope you have managed to get some rest today. Flowers

JS06 · 22/02/2016 08:41

Many congratulations on the birth of your son! Phew, that was exhausting following the thread so you must have been delighted to finally give birth.

I remember that getting out of the bed and collapsing on the floor thing. I got out myself and there was blood all over the carpeted (!!!!) room they put me in. I tried to clean it up and got in such a mess but all's well in the end.

I hope this week sees you refreshed, at home and bonding with your baby. Look after yourself x

sstewart2016 · 22/02/2016 12:41

Feeling more myself today, although I am itching all over! Confused baby hasn't gone to scbu yet but really suffering, I was forced out of bed today to go for a shower. First time since Saturday that I've walked! Still have the bag thing in, but now I've gone and got a blood clot in my leg. So tearful today.
There's also talk of needing a blood transfusion as I hemorraged Confused
Thanks for all the well wishes, haven't had my coke or cake yet Blush as I'm still throwing up

Flowers for you OP. I have been where you are now. Just take it really easy, stay in hospital for as long as possible and get your strength back. Congratulations, it is all worth it!

I had PUPPS after delivery. Horrendous itching which started within hours of birth on trunk and then spread to arms and legs. Took a different midwife on a home visit to notice it and send me to the GP for steroids and cream. I didn't find any links to spinals or forceps but I had both.........

Please get them to check you over.

sstewart2016 · 23/02/2016 13:02

I asked the midwife after posting and it is the diamorphine that's making me itch, it appears to have gone away. Got my bag out which is called a cathater or a handbag as the midwifes are calling it Grin
Baby is in scbu now, he wasn't feeding well through the night and his tempreture has shot up. Stopped BF as I still have my canulas in so can't physically pick him up 😢
My back is bruised from the epidural, I'm silently seething about that. How can they give me Two without me even consenting to one?!
My care here has been so shoddy, my baby was crying in the middle of the night but I couldn't pick him up so ran my buzzer and the lady came and said "what" I said can you plead help me I can't pick him up she didn't help me and just said "I will get a doctor to take the canulas out" I actually ripped the one in my arm out by mistake by trying to get him 😢
I've named him Leon 😊 he was 9 pound 9oz. In my own room for the time being so quite glad to not be hearing babies and trying to rest myself

Want2bSupermum · 23/02/2016 13:57

Get a copy of your notes before you leave. Complain too. I had canulas with both of my deliveries and they placed them so they weren't in the way.

NeedACleverNN · 23/02/2016 14:13

I would complain about your care too.

backonthebikeagain · 23/02/2016 14:33

Aw Stewart, Im sorry to hear you are having a rough time. Hopefully soon you will be home.

My advice - Use this thread or a facebook message to yourself and list everything now while its fresh in your mind. Once you get home you are likely to forget a lot of things. If you want to complain then you will have facts/timings etc.

Congratulations and welcome to the world Leon xx
