I asked if somebody is going to check me over and they said soon Confused
Will try and sleep but I doubt I'll get any, I've had 39 weeks of sleeping Grin

I read it that way too simon Blush

That's what I meant by midwives being able to tell by behaviour. But is a very strange thing to say otherwise!

As the op calls them nurses, it makes me wonder weather she is perhaps in a country that have nurses rather than midwives. Which may make a difference, as a nurse isn't as specialist in labour&birth as a midwife would be. In the UK for example, a nurse would not be involved in standard maternity care.

GingerCuddleMonsterThe2nd · 17/02/2016 20:15

I feel asleep in the bath in hospital Blush when I woke up I geared a midwife say "no she's too relaxed she's asleep in there" (yes they actually checked on me sleeping in the bath and let me)

I hobbled out the bath to my bed and said I'm in a bit of discomfort and the midwife said I'll come check on you, her face as she said "ummm your 8cm" was a picture Grin

Only I could basically sleep through labor in the bath Confused

I am in the UK for some reason I wrote nurse instead of midwife Blush

Oh well that blows my theory out the water then Grin

ollieplimsoles · 17/02/2016 20:18

Good luck! Tell them if you are in pain too! I had a poor girl on the induction ward with me finding it really hard and she suffered in for ages before a midwife gave her anything. Get your pain relief in early so you can relax in the early parts, even if its just some cocodamol

It's useful to keep reminding yourself that you aren't ill and you are allowed to do what you fancy. So you can go for a walk, wander over to the MW station to ask to pain killers, help yourself to a drink if there are facilities (my AN ward had a small kitchen), even have a shower if it isn't going to disturb anyone.

I ate a cereal bar at around 7cm..then threw up at transition.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/02/2016 20:33

Keep MNing moving around and ask for pain relief if you need it.

Some advice at an antenatal class I attended for woman who had already had one child
Woman - what about breathing?
MW - yes breathing is a good idea Wink

Ffs I wasn't trying to be patronizing. That was my experience. Sorry I forgot to add the disclaimer explaining that everyone is different.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 17/02/2016 20:41

You must have ate too much. Is she on glue. I'd be putting in a complaint tbh
Good luck.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/02/2016 20:42

I held an NCT coffee morning, then baked scones whilst I was in labour with ds3 - we are all different. I hope they check you soon - and good luck for your labour and imminent new, squidgy baby!

EweAreHere · 17/02/2016 20:43

Don't be so sure ... I was fairly functional as I went from 2cm to 8cm in about 90 minutes...

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 17/02/2016 20:47

Hope you get checked soon Flowers

Xmasbaby11 · 17/02/2016 20:48

Mine were 10 mins apart for hours, overnight and I was in pain, I couldn't sleep or do anything. I wasn't allowed into hospital til the morning, and then it was still another 15 hours til DD was born (forceps). The last 15 hours I couldn't have held a pen or phone, I was out of it and incoherent from the pain and useless drugs. Amazed other people could hold it together! I don't think they ever really know how quickly the labour is or isn't going to happen.

Everyone different but sounds like youve got a bit to go if your first. But you never know. My second came out half an hour after getting to hospital. MW didn't believe me either. Said what are you feeling. I said a bay coming out of me. She laughed till she examined me and said. Oh baby's crowning. 15 mins later baby was in daddy's arms and I was thinking told you so.

LadyLuck81 · 17/02/2016 20:50

I was A&E getting DD checked out while labouring with her brother. They were all desperate to get me in a chair and wheel me to maternity but I wouldn't leave her. I walked to maternity stopping to call my mum and text my mate on the way. He was born within 10 mins of me getting into the birthing suite. The only time it was too intense for me to do something else was as he was crowning, but I pushed for under 5 mins.

We are all different. It's rotten they are being dismissive but I guess the majority of women DO take longer. Still, I'd have to say to her that I didn't have indigestion it was bloody contractions and let her know I heard Grin

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/02/2016 20:55

I know someone who has labours that progress quickly and not madly painfully. Just as well her OH decided to accompany her when the MW let her pop to the loo. Two went in to the loo and three came out.

BrianButterfield · 17/02/2016 20:59

Both times I was told I wasn't in labour. "That is not a labouring cervix!" I was told - DD born about 4 hours later. Both times I knew full well I was!

NeedsAsockamnesty · 17/02/2016 21:00

I had one say she was just nipping out for a break as I had ages, when I said no you don't he's coming now she was quite eyebrow raisey

Until he did before she got to the door

whatevva · 17/02/2016 21:02

IME it is a total shock to them when you have a baby Grin

Rest up - hope you get some pain relief soon. Smile
