Do these stars not look in the mirror?
Or have honest friends to tell them?
Why does no-one wear tights anymore?

She looks fine. There is absolutely nothing wrong with her legs they're better than mine

Just because she is not 20 something, with super elastic skin and perfectly tanned - there is no reason she should have to cover up with tights Hmm really nasty thread.

iPaid · 18/02/2016 11:22

It's like you just can't help being critical of another woman

Right back to you.

OP posts:
MaidOfStars · 18/02/2016 11:37

It was whether she would have looked better on this occasion if she'd worn a pair of tights with that outfit

It's just so fucking vacuous.

She's an Oscar winner, FFS. And you're starting threads commenting on her legs, in a style worthy of Heat magazine.

Is this what women are reduced to?

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/02/2016 11:45

So, to answer your three original questions OP.

Do these stars not look in the mirror? I'm thinking she did look in the mirror and thought 'I look fucking fantastic'. And she's right.

Or have honest friends to tell them? Again, I'm thinking she does and they said 'you look fucking fantastic'. And they're right too.

Why does no one wear tights anymore. Well, plenty of people have explained why they don't wear tights anymore. Lots of women do still wear tights, I see them every day and the shops are full of them so they obviously sell. In this case, JM has chosen not to wear tights because she doesn't have to and she doesn't want to.

Same goes for her co-star.

Happy now?

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/02/2016 11:47

And yes, YABU, as you have been told over and over. She should not have worn tights because she clearly didn't want to wear tights. It really is that simple but you wanted either a thread where everyone ripped JM to shreds for having bare, pale legs OR the thread you got where you got handed your arse on a plate, because you get some weird kick out of it. Same as your delightful Victoria Beckham thread.

Foginthehills · 18/02/2016 11:54

I asked a fashion industry friend of mine if any professional would advise wearing tights with open toed shoes, and she almost died from hysterical laughter.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/02/2016 12:00

Hang on, Fog, does that mean the problem here is the shoes?

Dear God, not the shoes! Nobody ever stops to think about THE SHOES!!!!

snowymountaintops · 18/02/2016 12:22

Died from hysterical laughter? Oh dear it's not that funny is it?

Well obviously you would wear different flippin shoes wouldn't you as Lilac is presumably suggesting.

snowymountaintops · 18/02/2016 12:27

I think bare legs look incongruous during a British winter that is my final thoughts in summary. There is a woman at my gym on reception who always has very bare, very white legs with a short skirt - it just looks out of place in winter. I wouldn't advocate fake tan either, it's the bareness - in winter - in the UK. Not the age, shape or condition or rights to have bare legs it just looks odd when the temperature is sub-zero - to me at any rate.

This thread is unbelievable and I'm only writing on it to take away from far more serious things going on at the moment that I don't particularly want to pay attention to.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/02/2016 12:28

Actually, I was being sarcastic. I don't care about the bare legs or the shoes. I think JM looks amazing and there was no need for this thread full stop.

I was taking the piss about the shoes because they're not important either but I expect the OP old like a whole other thread about them if she thinks they are.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/02/2016 12:53

Is it allowed to say I think she doesn't look "amazing". I think the dress is shapeless and the shoes are ugly and I find the whole look very unattractive.

Are you going to report that comment too ?

No doubt you are far too high-minded to care what a pair of shoes looks like. Are less celebral women allowed to have a view on the attractiveness of shoes and dresses?. Presumably not, given you saw no need for the thread.

She is an actor. Part of her job is people looking at her. She gets paid by L'Oréal so presumably not opposed herself to cosmetics and the fripperies of fashion.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/02/2016 12:58

Bless you, Lass, you got deleted!

Fwiw, I didn't report that comment so why not aim at someone else, eh?

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/02/2016 13:01

'I do think she's made some bad films and demeans other women with gratuitous nudity and sex scenes.'

You're really scraping the barrel now.

Nearly all actors make some bad films. (Hello Al Pacino and Robert de Niro)

And how the heck does her being nude in some films demean other women!? She doesn't do nude scenes where you see a glimpse of a body double's perfectly peachy arse cheek or perfectly firm boob, she shows her real self. I fail to see anything demeaning in that. In fact I applaud her for it.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/02/2016 13:03

I'm also not sure how her making some bad films has anything to do with her legs.

Confused
iPaid · 18/02/2016 13:09

It's just so fucking vacuous

So don't read or comment on it.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/02/2016 13:13

If all the people who didn't age with you didn't post, OP, your thread would have had about 5 posts and died a death two days ago.

And, be honest, you would have hated that.

How about, rather than people not posting, you don't start any more threads slating female celebrities for the way they look?

Outaboutnowt · 18/02/2016 13:33

I don't really understand what your issue is op, and why it bothers you enough to start a thread about it.

She didn't wear tights. The end.
Nobody's eyes have burned off at the sight of her bare legs.
I think she looks great, doesn't matter if you don't - no one has to agree on everything. Imo she is beautiful and had aged very gracefully, I like that she looks quite natural and happy in herself. I don't know how old she is - but there is no reason she should wear tights.

Worry about something else.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 18/02/2016 13:37

So don't read or comment on it.

You posted on a public forum to INVITE comment on your position, "Am I being unreasonable to think..."

So people read and posted.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 18/02/2016 13:37

Read and commented, rather.
