To think that Julianne Moore should have worn tights

Do these stars not look in the mirror?
Or have honest friends to tell them?
Why does no-one wear tights anymore?

There's a lot of anti-tights sentiment on here - what's wrong with a comfy pair of tights?! I'm early 20s and live in tights and skirt/dress and would like to clarify I've never had a yeast infection!

Funny how those who are on here defending a woman right to wear whatever they fancy (which I agree with), are doing so by being judgemental about women who do want to dress a certain way.

I'm (when not pregnant) a size 8, think I look nice/stylish most days. Due to living in the NW I wear my thermal lined tights woth pride and I'm very unlikely to venture out with bare legs. I honestly think that skirts/dresses are more the more comfortable clothing options. I think it was Victoria Coren Mitchell who said that 'true equality will have been achieved when everyone can just wear a comfy dress, tights and cardi'.

I have little interest in the celeb picture at the top, however. Maybe, OP, this convo would have been better in style and beauty.

RudeElf · 16/02/2016 13:11

Who was judgemental about women wearing tights?

whatdoIget · 16/02/2016 13:17

I love wearing tights, I just don't think it should be compulsory

Lottie2611 · 16/02/2016 14:55

Squoosh I've said I don't dip myself in fake tan. I'm abroad a lot so don't need too.
Fake tan CAN be subtle if used correctly and sometimes it's clearly needed !!

RudeElf · 16/02/2016 14:58

Fake tan is never needed.

squoosh · 16/02/2016 15:02

Yeah, Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain would look so much more striking if only they'd slap a bit of fake tan on......

Lottie2611 · 16/02/2016 15:15

Who? Haha

Lottie2611 · 16/02/2016 15:17

Again though- missing the point! Not all pale legs need fake tan! The legs we are talking about are the ones in the picture.

squoosh · 16/02/2016 15:22

Lottie you seem to be missing the point. You and the OP are the only ones who thinks she needs to hide her legs. So, very much the minority.

Gabilan · 16/02/2016 15:33

Some people earlier said they didn't like tights but I don't think they said other women shouldn't wear them if they wanted to. I've stood up for the right to have pale legs if you want to but I haven't tried to impose my choices on other people.

I don't always find skirts particularly comfy and I find them very cold. However, I like wearing dresses or skirts when the mood suits and will often go for thick, dark tights, short skirts and knee boots. But I cover my legs for warmth, not embarrassment about the Shock of bare, pale legs.

RudeElf · 16/02/2016 15:35

No pale legs need fake tan.

Narp · 16/02/2016 15:53

She has very expressive knees. I think they should win an award for 'Best Support to an Actress'

Narp · 16/02/2016 15:59

GarlicBake

My legs are as hairy as that, although they've not had free rein since 1983.

Foginthehills · 16/02/2016 16:20

Do you people really waste brain space on this sort of stuff?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/02/2016 16:35

OP, not that this will matter to you one jot because you obviously don't care but I've reported this thread to MNHQ. I don't know what is so important to you that you keep on posting stuff like this but it's insidious and it's not the harmless pastime that you seem to think it is.

It's gratuitous and attention-seeking and you could post it on Style and Beauty... but you'd rightly be ignored there and you are so desperate for traffic and people to post to you.

I doubt anything will be done about your posting habits but I live in hope. I won't be posting back on this women-criticising thread again.

PurpleHairAndPearls · 16/02/2016 17:11

I tend to agree lying witch

snowymountaintops · 16/02/2016 17:45

Why can't people discuss knees without posters taking the moral high ground over the lowbrow contents or reporting the thread? Over reacting just a bit.

I think white legs in winter is a bit shocking too tbh, they just look odd. Fine in the summer even if white, it's the season that it seems strange to see bare legs in as would tanned fake or otherwise in the winter.

I just looked at the link and realised that even the Daily Mail, bastion of negative commentary on women based on nothing at all, didn't find fault with JM's legs. It's a shame that someone still has to find a way to pick at and criticise an admirable and successful woman just because her appearance doesn't conform to their narrow-minded standards, but it does explain who is reading the Daily Mail...

LilacSpunkMonkey · 16/02/2016 17:58

Anyone else wondering who the OP is going to aim her venom at today?

So many famous women to choose from...

ToastDemon · 16/02/2016 17:59

LyingWitch very well said, you've eloquently summed up my own disquiet with these sorts of threads.
To me it feels like internalised misogyny.

snowymountaintops · 16/02/2016 17:59

Very sheltered, I've never even seen anyone's knees before white or otherwise.

MsBojangles · 16/02/2016 18:45

Can't believe this thread is still going, the holier than thous have been busy!

iPaid · 16/02/2016 20:06

LyingWitch - stop being such a daft apath. I started a thread about some outfits Victoria Beckham was wearing. I didn't say one mean thing about her physique or personality; just asked people's opinions on - gasp! - a fashion designer's clothes Shock

Starting two threads on an anonymous chat forum is hardly attention seeking. It is you who is being mean spirited but I'm not reporting you for personal attacks on me because I think you're over-reacting; we're only talking about knees and clobber!
