To think that Victoria Beckham looks plain daft?

She's in New York to launch her latest collection and has been papped strutting out of hotels in some dreadful outfits. All can be viewed in the Daily Mail but for those of you who don't like to click I will post a few and you can tell me if I'm BU.

I found the story of the Wimbledon match fascinating. What weird and bizarre behaviour. I'm assuming she repeated this mantra in case people were taking photos or the paps were around. What a sad existence .

PortobelloRoad · 14/02/2016 16:09

I also think her mannerisms etc are a nervous/self concious thing. She was very badly bullied at school about her appearance as was I. I am now very successful and attractive but it's never left me, I think most victims of bulling get left with that kind of legacy, I cant imagine how that would be magnified if I was mega famous.

BIWI · 14/02/2016 16:23

You only have to read threads like this on MN and see the bile spewed out about her to have some sympathy for her. She's never allowed to have a 'resting' or 'normal' face on, is she? Always somebody having a go about what she looks like/what she's wearing, etc.

GarlicBake · 14/02/2016 16:38

Agreed, BIWI. This crap's going on all the time - and, yes, it is a price of fame and she needs fame to be successful. But for anyone with any degree of self-doubt, it must be very hard to handle.

A1Sharon · 14/02/2016 17:18

I don't think there has been very much bile spewed here at all actually. The general consensus seems to be that she she seems a nice sort. But that she is far too self conscious/fake etc.
For someone that people feel suffers from self doubt/nerves she places herself and her family front and centre every chance she gets.
Like most celebs I suspect her biggest fear is that no one would give a shit what she was wearing/looking like. Fame is oxygen to her type.

BIWI · 14/02/2016 17:24

A1Sharon - have you not seen any of the other gazillion threads about VB on MN then?!

(But I'd also say that your post wasn't exactly the most positive about her, either)

DinosaursRoar · 14/02/2016 18:09

The thin thing - thin woman who aren't 'naturally' thin don't really count calories after a while, they just eat in a particular way, get to know what portion size they can have and it becomes 'normal eating' for them. (Many will then claim that they are naturally thin, because "I can eat whatever I want" or "I eat normally", their 'normal' and what someone overweight views as normal are very different).

She does look like she finds it hard to relax, but having just seen a (different) celeb being papped trying to walk down the street from the other side of the road, it looked terrifying.

Chipstick10 · 14/02/2016 18:40

For someone who is nervous she certainly doesn't tire of letting the paps know when she will be trotting past

bakeoffcake · 14/02/2016 18:48

That's what I don't understand about her Chipstick.

She seems to hate the paps and the attention, yet it's known that her people call the press so they know where she is. They also parades their DC infront of the press, they must be amongst the most photographed children in the world. Why would she want that for her kids when she "seems" to hate it?Confused

Obs2016 · 14/02/2016 19:45

The do look silly. They don't fit her, she needs a smaller size. None of them are flattering to her figure, which if she's selling herself as someone who knows about fashion, that is really bad.

Narp · 14/02/2016 19:46

I think she looks nice.

BadgersNadgers · 14/02/2016 20:31

I've seen her collections up close and they are beautiful. It's hard for her to showcase them when she's being hounded by the paps.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 14/02/2016 20:57

I'm not a fan of hers or anything but I know damn well if 100% of my life was likely to end up in the media somehow I would work very hard at creating a totally fake persona especially if mt income was pretty much dependant on it doing so

ssd · 14/02/2016 22:03

NeedsAsockamnesty, the Beckhams want their life to end up in the media, it's what drives them forward.

laceysue · 14/02/2016 22:56

The Beckhams are apparently worth £470 million. But they're constantly striving to make more. Why can't they just relax a bit.

Chipstick10 · 14/02/2016 23:02

If she designs her collection then I'm Queen of Sheba . It is a ludicrous nonsense . Some other poor sap is and getting no credit. Those ridiculous photos of her on her knees with pins in her mouth pretending she is turning up the hems on her models dresses is utterly ridiculous.

GarlicBake · 14/02/2016 23:07

None of the very driven people I've known can ever make 'enough' - because it's not about money. Most of them will (and many have) take a drastic downturn in fortunes for the sake of their goals, which are rarely clear-cut to onlookers. They mostly do end up making money because there's a lot of truth in "build it and they will come", all else being equal.

One of these people was Steve Jobs - I knew him during the downturn, before anyone gets excited - and he's a perfect example of what I'm saying :)

NeedsAsockamnesty · 14/02/2016 23:08

Often having lots of money means you have lots of expenses that other people do not have, the lifestyle is not cheap.

And obviously they need their life in the media but do they need/want their real life the personal aspect of it or just the personas they have been peddling for years.

It's worked out quite well for them so far

laceysue · 14/02/2016 23:26

If they relaxed a bit they wouldn't have to have such an expensive lifestyle. Why do they need to keep earning. To have one million is a fortune, but they've got that 470 times over. A mind blowing amount of money. Life's short, there's more to life than money....you can't take it with you.

GarlicBake · 14/02/2016 23:30

Chipstick, Beckham's mentor is Roland Mouret, whose GalaxyTen line is very VB-like. Her stuff's made by the same London atelier as his - and so are many other designers' collections.

She's never claimed to be a 'normal' designer. As she says, she can't draw and her designs are products of collaboration with a team of pros. I believe her description to the Daily Fail.

GarlicBake · 14/02/2016 23:32

one million is a fortune

Not any more! I wouldn't turn one down, mind you Grin but I'm well aware it wouldn't even buy a large flat in my old part of London - which is not a swanky part.

laceysue · 14/02/2016 23:37

Your right, 1 million isn't really a fortune anymore. To me it would be. I could buy houses for each of my kids. If the Beckhams were down to their last million they're feel skint. All comparative I suppose.

TheHiphopopotamus · 14/02/2016 23:38

As she says, she can't draw and her designs are products of collaboration with a team of pros

So she is the fashion equivalent of a ghostwriter. VB is to fashion design as Katie Price is to novel writing...

GarlicBake · 15/02/2016 00:09

I dunno. Most designers work with a team. Plenty don't draw very well. The main difference is that she's new to it and still learning. I don't know whether Donatella Versace can cut a pattern or set a sleeve herself, but I'm pretty sure she hasn't done it for donkey's years if ever.

GarlicBake · 15/02/2016 00:11

(the ghost writer is the person who writes the book!)
