To be a bit baffled by the trend for eyebrows that announce their presence 3minutes before the rest of the face?

I had assumed this eyebrow trend was reserved for sellers of strangely overpriced pyramid scheme products (e.g. Forever Living, Youuuunique and our mumsnet favourite Timeless Vie )

But I was at a soft play today and half the women there had eyebrows so fierce they had a life of their own. And I keep seeing posts on our local selling pages of women asking for recommendations where to go to get their eyebrows done like that.

Just baffled by it, but then maybe they are equally baffled by my vaguely-plucked-around-the-edges eyebrows

Here's some recent brows - this lady only had a few natural hairs in her brow - the rest are simulated hairstrokes built up with a fine needle.

"...to those who have had chemotherapy or alopecia and just want 'some brows.'"

Yeah that's a good point. I saw an article once, where a black man had 'stubble' tattooed on his head to hide his hair loss and make it look shaved; it did look pretty good actually.

OhForFrigSake · 08/02/2016 22:56

That's called Tricopigmemtation Made and is really effective at camouflaging scars, skin defect and hair loss. Semi permanent makeup can also be used to reconstruct missing nipples (following a mastectomy) and to camouflage skin pigmentation differences. Can you tell I love my job?Wink

BunnyTyler · 08/02/2016 23:00

Apparently there is not a single woman who doesn't look 'dreadful' with semi permanent brows though Ohfor (according to this thread anyway...)

MadeMan · 08/02/2016 23:03

"Can you tell I love my job?"

Yes. Smile

Ludways · 08/02/2016 23:15

I have a friend at work with hers tattooed they look fab. She's had them done about 2 years but when she mentioned then the other day loads of people were gathered round as they hadn't noticed. Just subtle arches.

I have seen these ridiculous had brows though and they're awful.

Gruntfuttock · 08/02/2016 23:24

susannahmoodie "Did anyone else think Kate middletons eyebrows looked a by odd today at the RAF service? Very asymmetrical and suspiciously dozen looking??"

What on earth does "dozen looking" mean? Confused

MrsKoala · 09/02/2016 11:15

Okay Vixx, i have never seen them in the flesh and the pics i have googled they look similar to mine in my eyes. Just angular and quite long really. I thought as they seem to be a 'thing' that i have never noticed, that people around me may have them and i hadn't recognised them because to me they look similar to mine.

But if you say they are nothing like it then i will take your word for it and assume HD brows haven't come to my neck of the woods yet or i am not very observant.

happyhearts7 · 09/02/2016 15:55

OhForFrigSake it's thanks to people like you that some of us can look "normal" again Flowers I have no eyebrows for various reasons. 12 years ago I had semi-permanent eyebrows done & I loved them, unfortunately the lady who done them doesn't do it anymore and I couldn't find someone else I trusted enough to redo them until a lady was recommended to me a few months ago. Last Saturday I got them done again, and the difference TO ME already is immense! Grin
I have been really ill & some days I have hardly enough energy to get dressed never mind putting on makeup eyebrows.
So for other people to say our eyebrows look terrible etc it's really not on, you shouldn't be so judgemental... we're just getting on with it & it doesn't effect you so mind your own business!
This is one of mine & I LOVE them...

I'm pleased you've found a great technician Happy and I totally agree with what you say about the difference it makes to you.

I honestly can't remember one of my clients who have had chemotherapy or alopecia NOT crying when shown their new brows. For them, having those brows back really improves their self esteem. It's wonderful to be able to help someone in that way.

OhForFrigSake · 09/02/2016 16:19

Crying with happiness that should be! Wink

BunnyTyler · 09/02/2016 16:34

Happy - your brow looks brilliant Smile

ClaireFraser · 10/02/2016 10:17

I think the point that some posters are missing, is that if hd brows/tattooed brows are done well, then they look natural and in keeping and you wouldn't know the person had hd brows etc. So the argument that 'they all look awful/fake' doesn't work, because you're only noticing the awful/obviously fake brows, IYSWIM.

That all sense in my head, so hopefully it does in my head!

ClaireFraser · 10/02/2016 10:32

*does written down I meant! Gah, baby brain!

throwingpebbles · 10/02/2016 11:08

Yes it makes sense Claire!

Some of the photos on here look great and very skilful!

It's the extreme ones that are puzzling

I'm just not a fan of HD ones, regardless of who does them - they look (imo) like they've been sharpied on, and the bad ones look really bad. Some of the ones in PP that are tattooed on to look like individual hairs look really good though.

ClaireFraser · 10/02/2016 21:17

Yes I completely agree that the bad ones look awful and v Groucho Marx! I can't u defray and why anyone would want to look like they'd drawn them on with a sharpie.

I have dark brown hair but for some reason, since getting pregnant my brows faded from dark brown to a very light brown, plenty of hairs still there but just very little to them. So I fill mine in with a powder and brush so that they look like my brows always used to, as without them it feels like my face has no structure.

Baby is eight months now so fingers crossed they may go back to normal soon!

The right one is twice the width of the left!
Totally obvious even before her own eyebrows grew back in - unbelievable!
