Dawson's creek has to be one of the most frustrating shows ever. I have watched it end to end around 8 times. (Currently watching again) and each time if get more and more pissed off with this whole idea that Dawson has some sort of claim over Joey's virginity! All the fretting and hand wringing over whether she had sex with pacey and then her lying when she did and Gretchen telling her she has to go and tell him the truth. BOLLOCKS. She has to tell no-one. Her sex life was never Dawson's business (except that one time way later in university when they had sex with each other) he has no right to know any of it. I hate that whole storyline and the several years of pandering to the notion he had!

God I was so in love with Pacey... When he buys her a wall... When he watches her sleep (in a sweet non-creepy way as opposed to whatshisface from Twilight)... When he tells her 'I remember everything' at the dance (again in a sweet non creepy way).

Dawson OTOH was so controlling and passive aggressive. He was the same with Jen. On the one hand he was totally 'in lurve' and yet still found time to slut-shame her and kill her self-esteem.

I stopped watching after Joey and Pacey broke up. I was angry when I read that the show writer loved the character of Dawson and was so annoyed when he realised people loved Pacey instead that he decided to kill their relationship that I refused to watch anymore.

Exception was made for the episode when Joey and Pacey get stuck in a Kmart and have to spend the night together. And the great ending. Grin.

Wow I need a life.

And need to learn grammar too clearly.

sonjadog · 03/02/2016 18:50

I don't remember the Kmart episode! I am off to check out youtube...

Koopz · 03/02/2016 18:55

Never got into the show, I've watched maybe 2 episodes but now I have the theme tune stuck in my head lol

FatimaLovesBread · 03/02/2016 18:55

Ahh I love the kart episode. Who knew shaving off someone goatee for them could be so romantic GrinBlush

anonacfr · 03/02/2016 18:56

What!!!!!!!!!!

It was one of the later ones where Pacey has a great finance-ish job and he wears expensive suits and has a bad goatee.
Joey and Pacey both attend a posh dinner and at the end of the night they stop at a Kmart so Pacey can buy condoms (he got lucky with a girl at the party).

Except they get locked in and spend the night talking and reminiscing about their youth and relationship. It's so sweet... Great episode.

God I'm old.

FatimaLovesBread · 03/02/2016 18:56

*kmart and someone's obviously

anonacfr · 03/02/2016 18:57

I didn't want to say anything about the goatee. It's a spoiler alert. Grin

RudeElf · 03/02/2016 19:03

On my box set the theme tune changes in season 3 and only reverts back to the original (proper!) one for the final two episodes. I was really miffed the first time i watched and it was different.

Mines the same rude elf. It was something to do with song permissions for the dvd so they had to use the different one.

Sorry for the goatee spoiler Grin

CalleighDoodle · 03/02/2016 20:30

I loved pacey too. I watched dawsons creek every wednesday night when at uni before going clubbing.

The film at the end, when joey ends up with was also incredibly controlling of dawson and to be honest could easily be the start of a Criminal Minds episode.

londonrach · 03/02/2016 20:35

Pacey watching joey sleep....sign!!!! Why on earth anyone think joey would choose winey Dawson instead of sexy pacey. Pacey challenges her!

londonrach · 03/02/2016 20:36

Last one hour episode is my favourite. Watched it over 40 times and everytime i cry!

RudeElf · 03/02/2016 21:10

I used to watch it in sunday mornings in my jammies. Dsis and I brought our duvets down on sundays and had our cereal on the sofa and watched dawsons creek, and little house, the waltons, and later hollyoaks Grin i miss normal weekend TV.

I love Fringe. Was so happy to discover it on netflix and do a massive binge viewing. Was genuinely bereft when I got to the end. YY to Peter Bishop being a grown up Pacey!

RudeElf · 03/02/2016 21:16

Just realise i cant watch fringe as have no broadband til next wednesday! Grrr! Was looking forward to that too.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 03/02/2016 21:28

I have the theme song on my ipod and it's gorgeous but so sad, even without the Dawson's link.

JVDB was amazing in Criminal Minds. Played a serial killer in a two-parter. He'd developed a split personality with the second personality being his father. He was spookily good at playing both 'characters'. Great actor but he'll always be remember as whining Dawson.

Can you imagine the amount of 'ltb's' Joey would get if she posted about Dawson in Relationships? Or if Jen posted about his slut-shaming in FWR?

And Pacey...oh, Pacey. So innapropriate now I'm 42 but Joshua Jackson himself is still very fine.

I gave up watching this up circa 1998 (ie, after the first season).

I can remember quite liking Jen whilst all my friends mooned over Joey and wanting to be like Katie Holmes.

Years later, I feel smugly vindicated by the fact Michelle Williams has enjoyed a far better career than smirky, hands-in-the-jeans Katie Holmes.

mogloveseggs · 03/02/2016 21:44

Knew I shouldn't have opened this thread the theme tune is going round and round my brain now Grin
Think I'll have to revisit dc with dd.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 03/02/2016 21:45

I think Katie Holmes married Tom Cruise because she saw how much it boosted Nicole Kidman's career doing the same but the world just went 'wtf is he doing jumping up and down on Oprah's sofa?' and felt sorry for Katie.

Michelle has done amazingly well though, hasn't she? Oscar nominated and everything.
